Paying to reserve a sun bed.

Would you do this?

I have just seen this on the news that one company is doing this.

I personally think they should just ban people from reserving them with towels.

I love the idea.

Esp at the price they are suggesting.

SmilingButClueless · 29/01/2018 19:00

I would do this IF the reservations were enforced, and you could guarantee to get in a non-smoking area.

As someone who likes to use the loungers, but not all the time, it would be really useful to know that there would be one available when I wanted it.

80sMum · 29/01/2018 19:02

Surely it would be better if hotels ensured that they have enough sunbeds for everyone? If each bed in the hotel had a corresponding, numbered bed outside, that would fix the problem overnight!

catgirl1976 · 29/01/2018 19:03

I would. I think it's a great idea. I'm currently looking to book a holiday and have been discounting places that DS would love but look like they would get busy. If I knew I had a guaranteed lounger for all of us for the duration this wouldn't be as big of an issue

Whatshallidonowpeople · 29/01/2018 19:03

I don't think I've ever spent more than 30 mins on a sun lounger. Why would people? It's so bad for the skin

CheekyRedhead · 29/01/2018 19:04

It's a great idea. it is so annoying when people reserve 5 beds with towels at dawn then don't appear again for hours. Selfish!

AnotherPlaceAnotherTime · 29/01/2018 19:04

I definitely wouldn’t pay for this. However I would pay for the ability to reserve your specific room which they introduced recently.

CheekyRedhead · 29/01/2018 19:05

80smum how much space do you expect a hotel to have to allocate enough beds per room??? It wouldn't work Stephen rooms can take 3/4 people. Ridiculous idea!

fairgame84 · 29/01/2018 19:06

How much are they planning on charging?

I can see the attraction but its a bit shit when you've paid for a holiday then have to pay for a sunbed which should be included.

arethereanyleftatall · 29/01/2018 19:06

I agree with this idea. It is unbelievably selfish of people to put their towels down then fuck off into town for a few hours , so anything that stops them gets a thumbs up from me.

greatbigwho · 29/01/2018 19:06

Surely it would be better if hotels ensured that they have enough sunbeds for everyone? If each bed in the hotel had a corresponding, numbered bed outside, that would fix the problem overnight

But each room could have 2 or 3 adults in it, and if the hotel has 400 rooms, they'd need over a thousand sun beds…

TheFlis12345 · 29/01/2018 19:06

I would absolutely pay for this! I hate feeling I can't have a proper lie-in or relaxed leisurely breakfast on holiday because it might mean no loungers for the rest of the day.

eurochick · 29/01/2018 19:07

What I enjoy shadebathing with a good book. Well, I did pre-children anyway!

I think hotels should just ensure they have an adequate number of sunbeds so this isn't an issue rather than charging people more.

RainbowCookie · 29/01/2018 19:07

I’ve never been in the type of holiday which involves sitting on a sun lounger all day so I find the whole concept really odd. My kids would be bored senseless in about 5 minutes. We do go to the beach but I rarely get to sit down for more than the time it takes to eat an ice cream.

ForalltheSaints · 29/01/2018 19:10

Require hotels to publish how many rooms they have, and how many sun loungers. So if it is an issue for you, then you pick the hotel with the highest ratio of loungers to guests.

It seems to me the sort of idea that Ryanair would come up with.

happinessischocolate · 29/01/2018 19:11

I agree with this idea. It is unbelievably selfish of people to put their towels down then fuck off into town for a few hours , so anything that stops them gets a thumbs up from me.

So instead people will just pay to reserve the beds and then fuck off into town for a few hours, problem is now you won't be able to remove the towels.

How are people going to feel when they arrive st the hotel and try and book their sunloungers for the next day and they can't because they've already been reserved for the whole of the week

RockinRobinTweets · 29/01/2018 19:11

I can just imagine being put next to someone who I didn’t like for a whole week!

purpleprincess24 · 29/01/2018 19:12

Whilst in an ideal world there would be one us bed per person, if the hotel doesn’t have enough room for those additional beds, what should they do? Close a section of the hotel so that they can observe this ‘rule’, in which case the cost of all our holidays would increase significantly

If a section of sunbeds can be pre-booked, it wouldn’t seem fair if those guests went out for the day, leaving other guests sat on the floor looking at empty beds.

What ALL hotels should do is have an absolute ban on reserving sunbeds for hours on end, at one hotel we’re we stayed people were getting up at 5am when the towels were delivered

ToadOfSadness · 29/01/2018 19:14

I would probably pay for it because there are specific areas that get sun when I want it in the place I like to stay.

I have also stayed in a hotel with beach and the sunbeds were all lined up so you couldn't move them, and allocated to your room so you had to use your own. A good idea but not very relaxing.

HoppyHannah · 29/01/2018 19:15

It won't affect me, and I don't mean to sound arrogant by saying that at all.

I love my privacy, so the thought of sharing a tiny space with all and sundry around a pool full of noisy kids and adults just fills me with dread.

No kids anymore to worry about, so we just make sure to book a hotel/apartment with a nice private terrace. Works for us.

But if you need the sunbed remember the fee is probably for EACH bed and with a family that can mount up I suppose!

Justgivemesomepeace · 29/01/2018 19:19

I don't really understand this. If there were enough sunbeds you wouldn't need to reserve them. Surely by reserving them you would have loads of empty reserved sunbeds where owners may be on days out etc and other holiday makers unable to use them and not able to sit by the pool.I think the hotels have to manage this better and either have enough sunbeds and poolspace for everyone or have a rule where they remove your stuff after an hour or something if the beds are not bring used and other people need them.

itsbetterthanabox · 29/01/2018 19:22

Hotels just need to say 'no reserving' when towels and then enforce it by removing them if people leave.

TheFlis12345 · 29/01/2018 19:24

The problem is, loads if places have 'no reserving sunbeds' rules but it must be a nightmare to police. If it's a big hotel, how would you know who has gone out for hours v those who are in the pool having a swim / have gone to get an ice cream or grab a snack for lunch

mineofuselessinformation · 29/01/2018 19:26

Am I the only sceptic who's wondering if there will be a limit on how many you can pay for, and if not, how long will it be before people are reserving as many as they can afford and then selling them on for a profit?
I'm pretty certain there won't be enough to go around anyway, and if I was paying, I'd want to know which one I was reserving and what available shade it has.

Longdistance · 29/01/2018 19:26

The problem with them saying, no reserving, it never works. The staff don’t do anything about it.

Hotels need to ensure they have enough sun beds and umbrellas/shelter. Not everyone wants to be exposed to rays all day.
