If a GP decides to redact information from a patient as it 'can do harm' to the patient, what probable scenarios is the GP alluding to? Also, they are trying to block the patient from accessing the information.
AIBU to be confused why the GP doesn't just disclose?

Thanks

You’ve posted this before as well.

Tistheseason17 · 27/01/2018 21:15

I agree with the advocate suggestion. If there is Health watch or PALS in your area then go there. Or complain directly to NHSE to exhaust the options available.

retirednow · 27/01/2018 21:30

Bluedog, I thought it sounded familiar.

MadyaunMylford · 27/01/2018 21:44

PALS are useless and complaining to any of the above is pointless. I think the only way is legal action for him to get some closure.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions though.

OP posts:
Bluedoglead · 27/01/2018 21:45

what does he want from legal action

MadyaunMylford · 27/01/2018 21:49

For the info to be passed to the lawyer unredacted

OP posts:
Bluedoglead · 27/01/2018 21:50

That will never happen. It is against the law.

MadyaunMylford · 27/01/2018 21:51

So why has a lawyer told him he can make a legal request to access the info and the lawyer can then tell him

OP posts:
Bluedoglead · 27/01/2018 21:52

He will never ever be able to see the full medical record unredacted, nor will the lawyer.

retirednow · 27/01/2018 21:54

Is he suggesting the doctor has been negligent, what exactly does he think a lawyer could do. How can he un redact notes

Bluedoglead · 27/01/2018 21:54

You should repost in legal.

Actually your relative/friend should.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/01/2018 21:54

OP, be a bit aware that your relative may not be telling you the full story. Various MH conditions can cause the individual so be pretty paranoid about things.

Tistheseason17 · 27/01/2018 21:56

I agree with PPs.

MadyaunMylford · 27/01/2018 21:57

He is suggesting the doctor is causing further unnecessary stress to the patient by not being open and honest and by constantly stalling.

OP posts:
Bluedoglead · 27/01/2018 21:57

Who is suggesting?

MadyaunMylford · 27/01/2018 21:58

He The Patient

OP posts:
retirednow · 27/01/2018 21:59

What info has this lawyer said he can access and report back, if hes already spoken to a lawyer why do you need our advice. Why doesn't he just instruct this lawyer to do what he wants.

Bluedoglead · 27/01/2018 22:00

Look.

The patient is never going to be able to see the notes unredacted.

They aren’t going to be able to get things permanently deleted from the notes either

Bluedoglead · 27/01/2018 22:01

But you know what. If he’s got a lawyer who is telling him he can do all he wants and get him copies of the notes unredacted then why hasn’t he instructed that lawyer and taken it forward?

MadyaunMylford · 27/01/2018 22:06

If he can never get access to the notes unredacted, then there is no point in wasting money trying to get it.

The lawyer is from a reputable firm so I don't think they would say they can access the info when they can't

OP posts:
Bluedoglead · 27/01/2018 22:07

Ok well then I’m a liar, that lawyer is the dogs bollocks and why have you posted here?

JeReviens · 27/01/2018 22:08

Definitely read this before - why are you posting it again OP?

MadyaunMylford · 27/01/2018 22:08

The lawyer is not telling him he can do anything he wants, he just informed him that IF the GP decided not to release the info-FOR FREE- then the lawyer can send a letter requesting full med notes and unredacted.

Neither is he paranoid. He is just confused as to what the info pertains to and would just like to know. I think most people would be curious to know.
