Having been at the mercy of 111 I just wondered how necessary it is to see a dr with really painful earache and constant bloody discharge. Or should I suffer until Monday when I can see my own dr?

Bloody discharge from your EAR?? Go to the hospital, FGS.

RedHelenB · 27/01/2018 15:30

111 didn't say it was an emergency it's a very watery discharge but bloody.

Go to hospital. You could injure your hearing for life if you don't get it seen to. Could be a perforated eardrum. (Not a doctor)

notsohippychick · 27/01/2018 15:34

Sounds like a perforated ear drum, but the blood??? That doesn’t sounds too good!! I’d get it checked!!

See you near a walk in centre?

Kentnurse2015 · 27/01/2018 15:35

A walk in/urgent care centre would be best for that

RedHelenB · 27/01/2018 15:35

I think it probably is but 8 did tell 111 this and they said they'd make an appointment for me but no one's got back

Ilikecheesycrackers · 27/01/2018 15:35

Out of hours GP could deal with this I think.

Angrybird345 · 27/01/2018 15:42

A&e or doctor today!!!

thewavesofthesea · 27/01/2018 15:47

SOunds like a perforated ear drum, or a really nasty infection on the ear canal. It’s very painful. It’s a job for the out of hours GP or walk in centre (most nurse practitioners would be fine with this) (GP here). I wouldn’t expect you to wait until Monday!

retirednow · 27/01/2018 15:50

This is the problem with 111, it's not the same as actually seeing someone in person, they are just an advice line. I would either go to the local out of hours doctor or hospital, do you have one in your area. Don't leave it.

RedHelenB · 27/01/2018 15:51

I've been rungodly back now thank you.

OP posts:
retirednow · 27/01/2018 15:53

what did they advise you to do

Mintychoc1 · 27/01/2018 15:53

I'm a GP?
Waiting till Monday won't be pleasant but it won't do any harm. You've most likely got an ear infection. You certainly don't need A&E. Hopefully 111 will get back to you and offer you an urgent care centre appointment today or tomorrow.

Mintychoc1 · 27/01/2018 15:53

Sorry there shouldn't be a ? After I'm a GP. I actually am a GP, and I know I am!!

RedHelenB · 27/01/2018 16:06

I've got an appointment now. I had no sleep last night and been in bed with flu

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/01/2018 16:07

lol! sorry, that's funny Mintychoc.

Poor you RedHelen. I hope 111 prove to be helpful.

retirednow · 27/01/2018 16:07

Hope they sort it out for you and you soon feel betterStar

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/01/2018 16:07

x post. Glad you got an appt.

RedHelenB · 27/01/2018 18:24

Been seen and waiting for antibiotics now. Can't wait to crawl back into bed after I've dropped dd2 at her party.

OP posts:
Fortybingowings · 27/01/2018 18:28

Glad you’re sorted out. The pain should get better quite quickly if you’ve got a perforation.

niccyb · 27/01/2018 18:44

You don’t need to go to the hospital. You have an ear infection and will likely need antibiotics. My daughter and myself have suffered with this before. This can be treated by the out of hours Gp or whatever provisions you have in place in your area. It doesn’t require an a&e attendance.

niccyb · 27/01/2018 18:46

Just seen that you got sorted. Glad to hear this x

Laiste · 27/01/2018 19:14

God that made me laugh minty GrinGrin

Glad you've been seen OP. Where did you go in the end?

RedHelenB · 27/01/2018 20:21

The out of hours surgery at the hospital. Can't wait for the pain to go so I can get some sleep!
