Holiday on a budget

user1490465531 · 26/01/2018 16:06

Want to go away this year abroad for a week me and dd could I realistically do this with a 600 budget for both of us that's excluding spending money?
would want a reasonable hotel and full board if possible.
Was thinking turkey or somewhere like that.
My dd is ten so not sure if I pay adult price for her.
The reason I'm clueless is because I last went abroad ten years ago pre dd so not much idea what the average family pay for holidays now.
So AIBU to think it's possible on a very tight budget?
would prefer July August time but would consider beginning of September.

You might be pushing it expecting full board for that.

Cheapest holidays I usually see are packages and it’s usually Costa Del Sol and Mallorca that come up cheapest.

user1490465531 · 26/01/2018 16:08

Would do half board but don't want self catering.

Have a look at Bulgaria as you can often find a cheap deal there.
The fact you are a single with a child will mean no free child places plus a possible supplement for a single person. Both of which will push the price up.

user1490465531 · 26/01/2018 16:20

My sister went to Bulgaria said it was horrible so don't want to go there!

Try putting together your own package from On The Beach. I'm sure you could find something 3 star for that budget if you're happy to travel very early/late.

taskmaster · 26/01/2018 16:27

300 quid each for flights accomodation and full board in the summer holidays? Sorry, I think you haven't a hope there.

FluffyWuffy100 · 26/01/2018 16:27

£600 for two people to go somewhere like Turkey during school holidays and stay HB is probably unrealistic.

user1490465531 · 26/01/2018 16:30

what would I be looking at price wise realistically? probably end up having to do a weekend at the coast oh well!

Have a look at holiday pirates.

Cantspell2 · 26/01/2018 16:32

I went to Bulgaria as well and didn’t particularly like it but if you are just looking for a week in the sun it is fine.
Don’t think you are going to get Fb in school holidays for £600 anywhere like turkey. Might if lucky get hb but then you will need more spends to pay for lunches.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 26/01/2018 16:40

OK, I put your details into TUI's package holiday search, choosing Spain and Greece as most likely to be cheapest, and the cheapest package they came up with for the last week in July was a self-catering studio apartment on Crete for £896.

Full board, the cheapest was a hotel room in Benidorm for £1115.

user1490465531 · 26/01/2018 16:45

Well it's not looking good as with spending money probably looking at close to £2000 to get what I wanted.
Shame as dd never been abroad before but will have to save and maybe do it next year.
Thanks everyone for their help.

You could definately do it if you went self catering. I've booked flights in august and a self catering villa for 6 for under 1100. Would that be an option at all if it came in under your budget? You can often get flights going mid week to mid week for cheaper and on sites like booking.com you can rent accomodation for however many nights you want, you are not stuck to the normal 7 days sat to sat situation. They do offer some with half board and full board, so worth a look.
Theres also teletext holidays, you'll have to google them, who do deals. But I've never tried them so don't know how good they are.

MyDcAreMarvel · 26/01/2018 17:03

All inclusive in Turkey in August comes up at just over £1000 on the beach.

Charmander123 · 26/01/2018 17:08

You can easily go to somewhere like Prague . It's historical beautiful and a little bit magical xx

sleepylittlebunnies · 26/01/2018 17:11

I’ve looked up on Tui for end of August and cheapest are Turkey SC for £652 and Bulgaria B&B for under £714. Of course depends what airport you are flying from. Bulgaria is also very cheap to eat out.

3boys3dogshelp · 26/01/2018 17:13

Try jet2 holidays - I just found a week full board to a hotel on the Costa brava for £818 (3*, twin room, daytime flights, baggage and transfers included, 28/8) What date does your daughter go back to school? Look at Tuesday/weds flights if you’re flexible, they tend to be a lot cheaper. We’ve used them and they were good.

Giraffesarequitetall · 26/01/2018 17:13

Don’t forget to factor in the cost of passports too if you haven’t been abroad for a long time and your DD hasn’t been so uou’ll probably be on around £100 for passports too

3boys3dogshelp · 26/01/2018 17:14

Or maybe look at eurocamping somewhere south of France. No beach but outdoor pool and lots of kids for your dd to meet - choose one near an airport and fly with a budget airline if you don’t want to drive.

imsorryiasked · 26/01/2018 17:14

Definitely keep an eye out in the summer for a last minute deal.

DingDongDenny · 26/01/2018 17:17

You could do it if you went self-catering, rather than a hotel. A cheap flight and then AirbnB. Somewhere like Dubrovnic would be good as there is lots to see plus a beach.

You would also be able to save money by having breakfast in your apartment, packed lunch and then just eating out once a day

Is there a reason you would only consider a hotel?

user1490465531 · 26/01/2018 17:18

Despite not having gone abroad dd has a valid passport but would have to update mine.
Thanks for all the suggestions not sure exact date dd bk at school but just having a look myself realize how much price shoots up during school holidays which is annoying.

Consider the costs of travel insurance, getting to the airport, possibly passports and then general costs while there. I think I'd rather save and do it next year with enough saved. It's no fun worrying about your budget the whole time you're away.

Reallylongstory · 26/01/2018 17:19

Could you have a larger holiday budget and smaller spending money budget? If you’re looking at a beach and pool swimming and relaxing you won’t need that much cash. Tui have plenty of half-board late July/mid August for approx £500 per adult so even if you have to pay full price for DC that’s £1000 and with a late big breakfast/brunch and dinner you probably won’t need much lunch. Might be more economical than AI
