Aibu to spend money on myself?

I'm in two minds what to do.
I won £600 on hot picks.
I never ever win anything.
I don't know whether to use this and treat myself to some new clothes/spa day or buy things for the house.
Everything I have is second hand.
Maybe it would be nice to buy a new cooker and fridge.
Not expensive ones just basic.
What would you do?

I would buy a new cooker or a new fridge and spend the rest on myself x

catsarenice · 25/01/2018 21:45

I'm annoyingly sensible so would buy house stuff - would probably keep £75 for a mini shopping trip for me though!!!

Rainboho · 25/01/2018 21:45

Oops! Errant x

MyBrilliantDisguise · 25/01/2018 21:45

I'd get the bigger ticket items - they're so much harder to buy and will make a big difference to your life.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/01/2018 21:47

A quarter on the house, 2 quarters on yourself and a quarter in the bank. Congrats Flowers

Pennyjoho32 · 25/01/2018 21:47

A cooker would Defoe come in handy
At the minute I'm using a microwave and a boiling ring
I don't know when il have enough to get one again.

Bit of both buy something you need and then something you want. No harm in treating yourself with unexpected money if you have kids spend some on making memories and then get that new fridge or cooker.

directsunlight · 25/01/2018 21:52

Definitely a cooker, especially since you don't have one at all! Do your research first, though. Spend wisely.

NewYearNewMe18 · 25/01/2018 21:54

Living nicely first , followed by a decent cut and colour.

Spa day (WTF is it with this site and spa days as the great cure all) is a waste of money

QuiteLikely5 · 25/01/2018 22:01

Check gumtree you can get some great bargains on there!

Neverender · 25/01/2018 22:03

Cooler, then fridge and fill it with wine and chocolate. Congratulations!

Iwantaunicorn · 25/01/2018 22:05

I agree with PP, I’d buy the big ticket items but keep some money to one side for a treat for yourself. Built in ovens with 5 year guarantees can be picked up for about £140 leaving loads for a fridge, and say £100 treat money for you?

BadLad · 25/01/2018 22:07

Do you have savings?

If not, I'd stick £500 into savings, and perhaps spend the rest.

If you do have 3 or more months of living expenses saved up, then I'd perhaps buy either a fridge or a washing machine, and enjoy the rest.

BadLad · 25/01/2018 22:08

Misremembered. Cooker, not washing machine.

BlackeyedSusan · 25/01/2018 22:08

I would buy a cooker as it will make your everyday life so much easier. also recently had a new cooker and it is amazing how quickly things cook. (the old one you had to double the time. ) and one ring at the back working but not able to use the front rings due to the safety of the children.

BanginChoons · 25/01/2018 22:10

Buy cooker from a second hand shop with a guarantee. Do you need a fridge too? You could probably get both for £300.

Then go out and treat yourself to some new clothes.

Inertia · 25/01/2018 22:14

I'd buy a cooker and a fridge- they're the things that you need a sizable chunk of money for.

SummerRains · 25/01/2018 22:18

Definitely not a spa day - nothing to show for it after one day. Whereas a cooker would last for years and would reduce expenses ifhaving lots of ready meals - not saying you are though.
A cooker when on heats the kitchen too in winter if using the oven. Do you have a fridge at all? Of not a fridge before a cooker as you can store food safely and not need to do shops daily/so often.

I would save some for a few clothes - things I would wear every day for me, like a new pair of trousers/jeans

chocolateworshipper · 25/01/2018 22:19

I think you definitely need to spend some of it on something slightly frivolous and fun that is going to make you happy

Jengnr · 25/01/2018 22:22

Where do you live OP? Roughly?

I would buy shoes with it.

Idontevencareanymore · 25/01/2018 22:23

Cooker, maybe fridge, look on the second hand/electrical shops like house clearance places for a good bargain maybe?
£100 for new clothes for summer.

Inthedeepdarkwinter · 25/01/2018 22:26

The British Heart Foundation do electrical items second-hand with a guarantee, I've got my dishwasher from there. Could make your money go further.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 25/01/2018 22:26

£300 Cooker, save £200, blow £50 on a treat/treats/lunch and hold back £50 for when you see something that you really love but can't usually stretch to.

Generally I would say keep using what you've got and buy something special/treat yourself. But since you don't have a working cooker at all, I would make that a priority. There should be some left over for a spa day or something too.
