Sorry, sort of a help me out AIBU...

Heading to London which is a hugggeee things for us country bumpkins.

Taking DD(9) who would love to have afternoon tea somewhere special. Have looked and found a perfect Charlie and the chocolate factory inspired afternoon tea One Aldwych however at £44 each im a little Hmm as I can't see any kid prices online... Aibu to think £44 is a bit steep for what I assume will be child portions?

Can anyone recommend an affordable (I don't mind maybe £30pp) afternoon tea, kid friendly, with a little bit of something special, afternoon tea?

Thanks

I'd call and ask them if they do child portions, certainly worth asking as most places do, especially if she'd love that particular theme. Off to look it up myself!! Sounds lovely, sorry no other recommendations but most places show adults/kids prices where appropriate for kids.

Cherrycokewinning · 22/01/2018 13:12

It’s aimed at children so assume that’s the price for everyone? It’s only going to be adults accompanying children

PatriciaHolm · 22/01/2018 13:13

children under the age of 12 are £34 for the Charlie tea at One Aldwych - prices are on their own website.

Theresnonamesleft · 22/01/2018 13:14

Children under 12 is £34. It's underneath the booze options

NoSquirrels · 22/01/2018 13:15

Yum. It’ll be amazing - but yes, £44 for a 9 year old is rubbish!

Try The Parlour at Fortnum - ice cream parlour but they do afternoon tea too.

frasier · 22/01/2018 13:15

When we took DN (niece) to Harrods they told us it would be too much for a child and just brought an extra plate for her to share ours. There were two adults having tea though.

I've never seen a child's portion for an afternoon tea, they are all a set menu and all look the same.

Calmdownboris1 · 22/01/2018 13:16

I have had that afternoon tea- its excellent and very fun

MockneyReject · 22/01/2018 13:16

Groupon always have offers on afternoon tea. It's usually the generic places, like Patisserie Valerie. My 7y old DS loves it.

lookingforthecorkscrew · 22/01/2018 13:17

Fortnums are fab - my fav place to have tea!

Talkingfrog · 22/01/2018 13:19

You can also do ricer cruises with afternoon tea.

The ice cream parlour in Harrods is lovely.
DD and I like it there.
Beautiful tasing ice creams.
There’s some lovely places to eat in Harrods and they have always been very accommodating when I go with children.
Dd has been made to feel very special by staff if it’s been her birthday or we are celebrating something.

MockneyReject · 22/01/2018 13:24

Ooh, some lovely ideas, there, No Squirrels.
The river cruise sounds perfect.

TableDesk · 22/01/2018 13:25

Thankyou so much for the replies. I Couldn't bloody see the kids prices for one Aldwych Blush

The Chesterfield also have a Charlie and the chocolate factory inspired afternoon tea priced at 38.50 / 19.50 which seems good too (an extra 25% off in January too - damn we're heading in Feb)

Will have a look at all recommendations - an ice-cream at harrods sounds so decadent!

Have a look on afternoontea.co.uk

HuskyMcClusky · 22/01/2018 13:31

Oh man, I’ve had the afternoon tea at Harrods, many moons ago...sooooo good

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 22/01/2018 13:32

Went to the Chesterfield and was really nice.. Plus free refills.. Not that you really need them.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 22/01/2018 13:32

Well I was going to suggest the Tea Terrace on the 5th floor of House of Fraser on Oxford street, but reading some of the reviews brought back more memories of the time I took my boys there than were at the surface!
I mean, it was lovely - it's very Alice in Wonderland (or was when I went there Christmas 2016) and does fabulous gluten free options, if that's anything of interest - but yes, the service was slooooowww. But it was just after Christmas and the place was rammed, so that might obviously have had an effect (CHristmas sales shoppers!)
But it was a very pleasant afternoon tea, despite the slowness of service.

MajorBumsore · 22/01/2018 13:33

I’ve had the Charlie and The Chocolate Factory afternoon tea at the Chesterfield with my DS. It is excellent; you get refills of sandwiches and cakes and can take any you don’t eat away. Staff are really friendly too. Highly recommended.

Rainforest cafe, city farm (busmans holiday!), boat on the Thames?

extinctspecies · 22/01/2018 13:49

Just share an adult's one between the 2 of you - there'll be more than enough food.

notWORKzilla · 22/01/2018 13:50

The Langham hotel does a children's afternoon tea and they serve hot chocolate to the children from beautiful teapots and they have themed food for them too.
It's £27.50 per child

JassyRadlett · 22/01/2018 13:55

The Ampersand in South Kensington does a space/science themed afternoon tea. They don’t have kids’ prices on their website (£37pp for adults). It really was lovely.
