AIBU to be annoyed by this?

So I live on a busy road, it’s always been busy and I accepted that when I moved her, but lately it’s getting busier.

With the building of the world’s worst planned bypass my road has basically become a motorway with lorries passing at all time of the day and night.

This is annoying enough and there’s nothing I can do about it, but it adds to my annoyance of this:

Every morning at 7.50 and evening at 5.27 there’s a shitty little motorbike with the world’s loudest engine. It wakes up DD (5months) every morning and it just makes me so angry.

I called the police and they said it was nothing to do with them and in fact went as far to explain all the other hinges that were more important to them (than a speeding, loud motorbike, roaring round the corner every morning and evening when school kids are being picked up/dropped off for the coaches). They said my local bobby would call me but I never heard anything.

I’ve tried to contact environmental health but you can only do that through a website form, and I can’t give any info cause the number is illegally displayed and not visible (my DH tries to see it most mornings).

It’s driving me insane, any ideas?? I’m not usually petty but this is really getting my goat.

I have a solution.

Move.

stopbeingadramallama · 22/01/2018 13:24

Get a grip love. They're obviously just going to work.

I suppose if the noisy bin lorry was coming round to collect your bins at that time, it wouldn't have been a problem at all.

As as for the police?!? That's a joke right?

Tinty · 22/01/2018 13:25

Ok OP, I understand that it is annoying, but in my village a farmer drives through with his/her dogs barking (about 4 of them) every morning and every evening, it is much earlier than your motorbike. But I just think to myself, that is a really annoying noise, (I would hate that in the back of my truck from wherever he/she lives all the way to work). Then I think poor him/her up and about and on the way to work at 5 in the morning every day.

Can you possibly consider the fact that this person is on the way to somewhere whilst you are still in your nice cosy home. It might make you feel better. Smile

KimmySchmidt1 · 22/01/2018 13:25

Wtf did you think the police were going to do about it?!?!? Maybe you should call out a couple of ambulances too and see if you can cause any deaths.

You decided to live on a busy road.

You decided to live on a busy road.

You decided to live on a busy road.

Keep repeating that to yourself until it sinks in.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 22/01/2018 13:30

I’m just still in shock that you called the police and wasted their time because a motorbike woke up your kid.

Police have finite resources; you should be charged for wasting their time.

StealthPolarBear · 22/01/2018 13:34

If you'd called the police because of the illegal plates or speeding though imo that would be fine (not 999 I assume)

magicstar1 · 22/01/2018 13:34

As an aside...if the bike is coming around the corner when kids are being picked up / dropped off, the it's better that it's loud. I drive a loud bike and you'd be surprised how many people stop short of stepping in front of you when you blip the throttle.

stopbeingadramallama · 22/01/2018 13:34

In fact, can you please tell me your exact words while on the phone to the police?

If it was along the lines of "I live on a busy road and there's a loud motorbike outside and it woke my child up"
This could make my day.

Glumglowworm · 22/01/2018 13:36

YABVU

it’s very reasonable times to be making very brief amounts of noise. And you chose to live on a busy road.

Massively unreasonable to call the police! I’m not surprised you got a lecture, you thoroughly deserved if

ShastaTrinity · 22/01/2018 13:37

If he's really zooming illegally twice a day you could check if you area has a Speedwatch program

I think the poster getting high and mighty and going on about terrorism/ murders/ rapes was a tad over-the-top. Speeding motorists or motorcycles are more than a nuisance. Some areas are now reducing the speed limit from 30 to 20 to try to protect people.

Still, loud engine driving past twice a day... really not much anyone can do!

Theglobe · 22/01/2018 13:41

I bet the day he doesn’t zoom past you’ll be late on the school run or forget to put dinner on!

Missingstreetlife · 22/01/2018 13:46

Highways and transport dept at local council. What do your neighbours think, is it a safety issue.
Council can put in traffick calming but you may wish they didn't.

Guardsman18 · 22/01/2018 13:50

This might help!

Years ago, a friend had a small motor bike and used to take the 'baffle'??
out of the exhaust to make it sound better/noisier.

Could you ask the motor cyclist whether he has done this and ask him to kindly put it back in if he/she has?!!

User24689 · 22/01/2018 13:51

How is it possible for a "shitty little motorbike" to shake the house though? And be louder than police sirens??? Are you sure there isn't a teensy bit of exaggeration here?

As an aside, I would be stoked if my toddler slept until 7.50.

Snowysky20009 · 22/01/2018 13:51

I would have so loved to have been the other side of that phone call. Can you imagine what was said when they put the phone down!!! OP's number will be logged as the 'a motorbike woke up my baby woman'. GrinGrinGrin

Pinkpeanut27 · 22/01/2018 13:53

We live near an industrial estate which is usually very quiet but from 8pm to about midnight in the summer we are plaques by motor bikes and souped up fiestas driving round and round . It disturbed everyone but there is nothing to be done. The police have been contacted( by a neighbor) as it was thought to be illegal road racing but even for that they can’t do anything .;it’s just part of life I’m afraid . If you want it quiet you need to move .

Sumo1 · 22/01/2018 13:54

A neighbour started riding dirt bikes round a field near us - Omg it was horrendous, though did go on for much longer than the Op's.
Could it be he is using a dirt bike, it is like a bike with no silencer. I presume that is why you contacted the police as driving exceedingly noisy silencer free vehicles is probably illegal (there's a reason they're called silencers). Did the police actually hear the bike? I'm amazed police are so rude, any police I come across fall over themselves to be pleasant no mtter how obnoxious or drunk the inividual is.

Theglobe · 22/01/2018 13:54

Could you ask the motor cyclist whether he has done this and ask him to kindly put it back in if he/she has?!!

How?! He’s zooming past wearing a helmet! Drive alongside in the car with a megaphone?

‘Excuse me pal! Have your baffles fallen out?’ That’s one hell of a chat up line!

MrsDilber · 22/01/2018 13:59

What a shame. Noise pollution really does my head in. I feel for you.

My neighbour (who is deaf) has a liking for windchimes, we live in a terrace and she's never, ever out the back where they are. She bought a massive glass one, I went round with a beautiful pot plant and, in a lovely way, explained how it was keeping us up, she took it down but replaced it with another one. They drive me insane. I used to visit her regularly, but think stuff it now I've told her.

So you have my sympathy op.

Thehogfather · 22/01/2018 14:03

I hope it was 999 you rang given the serious nature of the complaint? Just keep redialling until they agree to send the riot squad and cid out.

Using a vehicle on a public highway during rush hour when your pfb is sleeping is definitely illegal, so yanbu.

Be sure to call an ambulance if you so much as sneeze, or the fire brigade to blow out a candle.

ArnoldBee · 22/01/2018 14:03

So at around 7.45am every school morning I have cars parking at the side right next to my bedroom at the side of my house that slam their car doors. I somehow manage not to ring the police and just carry on with my day.
To be honest I think you are attributing issues to the wrong cause. I think you are may be sleep deprived, possibly depressed and focussing on this motorbike. You could probably do with some sleep and a rest which would put this into perspective or if it really is that bad move house.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 22/01/2018 14:08

Loud engines of any sort should be banned. End of. My neighbour has a new Harley. I feel for you. Wanna go halves in a pack of nice sharp tacks?

OverTheParapet · 22/01/2018 14:08

We have a similar issue OP. Speeding round the blind bend etc & very fucking noisy. He does it at 11pm tho. Still wouldn't think to call the police.

I've just started telling him to turn off his shitty 250

Guardsman18 · 22/01/2018 14:10

@Theglobe. I thought it might be a neighbour, but I see your point!

Bluntness100 · 22/01/2018 14:15

I'd second the driving along side with a megaphone idea. Loving that. Please can you have it videod and Post it here for our amusement? Grin

Anyways, please do not call the police because a motorbike woke your baby up. If you do it again they should arrest you for wasting police time. Of thr two "crimes" here, yours is by far the worst.
