To raid my savings for This?

In a nutshell, landmark birthday later this year.

Am single, made redundant a few months ago, no one to celebrate with. I'd rather be alone than spend it with family me scapegoat, sister is goldenchild and they will just spoil it & make it about themsleves

I effectively have nowhere to go.

I can afford it but shouldn't until job situ is sorted

Wibu to raid my savings and take myself off on an adventure holiday / tour somewhere?

@Mummaofboys true.

It was supposed to be my deposit fund but doesn't look like I'll ever afford a home.

Absolutely, go for it!

I can see that re not wanting to raid savings. How much of a rut are you in? Would getting away now - and over your birthday of course - help? The National Trust runs v cheap work camps doing conservation work in the UK. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/documents/working-holidays-brochure-2018.pdf - a week will cost around £165 and they run year-round. Or do working holiday over your birthday and go away somewhere sunny now? National Trust for Scotland is another organisation that does them. I'd be iffier about doing voluntary work in the developing world, some of the organisations rightly have an iffy reputation.

I’d do this!

Some years ago a close friend was made redundant and ‘blew’ ( in the eyes of some) her redundancy money and savings on a trip to Australia. Pretty sure she wouldn’t have regretted it anyway but as it turns out she met the love of her life whilst she was there and is now married to him, living (very happily) down under and has an even better job that she loves. Not sure it’s that relevant but just an example of how doing what she wanted and using her savings on something seemingly frivolous turned out to be a great move!

DO IT DO IT DO IT.... and update us all on what a fabulous time you have when you get back!

What sort of adventure did you have in mind Op?

NewYearNiki · 22/01/2018 21:31

Loads of stuff.

I got quite fit in the last couple of years so could manage a hike, a yoga retreat.

Maybe thinking of a mountain climb but that might be too ambitious.
