To ask if I can wash a king sized duvet in the bath?

DD (4) has been on a mission to fuck me off this week.

To cut a long story short she has drawn massively bushy eyebrows on my faux tapestry of a young man serenading his betrothed, she’s drawn eyebrows on my cushion that had a stag on it and she’s even drawn eyebrows on the fucking cat.

Needless to say she got a bollocking and didn’t take kindly to that either so what does she go and do? She pisses ALL OVER MY FUCKING DUVET. I’ve been quoted £30 at the laundrette but the bloody thing only cost me that two weeks ago Angry

Can I wash it in the tub? It’s only a synthetic one so no goose feathers etc.

Thanks in advance.

It wasn’t complicated though. OP asked if she could wash it in the bath and people said “best not to”. It’s realky nothing to get irate about.

BulletFox · 22/01/2018 00:02

I think if it had been peed on I'd want a proper wash, so a launderette would be best. That would be about £10.

Am I out of touch with duvet costs? I assumed a large one would be at least £30

SimonBridges · 22/01/2018 00:08

Dry cleaners will wash duvets.
I’m amazed no one else has said ‘we don’t do duvets’

llangennith · 22/01/2018 00:08

I don’t think there’s any make of home washing machine that’ll take a king size duvet. Laundrette or dry cleaners will. Lakeland driers are ok but not for a huge dripping wet duvet. (FYI I gave my Lakeland drier to my DD as it needs a room to itself).

MarieNostra · 22/01/2018 00:10

Donny, you sound a bit annoyed, you are far too invested in people's posts.

It is a fkn pissed on duvet. Simple solutions are usually the best.

TrinitySquirrel · 22/01/2018 00:11

What tog is it OP? Our kingsize 4 tog duvet from ikea fits fine in our washer and dryer

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 22/01/2018 00:14

OK marie i’ll just ignore your posts from now on. I’ve clearly interpeted them wrong. My mistake. Sorry.

Cocoloco75 · 22/01/2018 00:15

Buy a new one. I just got a new king size 10.5 tog fogarty from dunelm the other day for £20. Super cheap, really cosy yet lovely and light.

Ginkypig · 22/01/2018 00:38

She drew eyebrows on the cat? A real live cat? What did she use? Shock

SpacePenguin · 22/01/2018 00:45

I have done loads of times. Hard work, but no major problems. Best to do it on a dry day when you can let it drip outside. And you need a heavy duty airer to hold it off the ground.

Shmithecat · 22/01/2018 00:54

I have washed both down and hollow fibre duvets in my 9kg washing machine..

Morning. Couldn't wait for tipexed cat pic. and glad i didn't Grin

A cleaning story: DH and i decided to wash a pure white wool rug once. It was about 7 foot x 4 foot, thick short pile, like expensive carpet. It had cost a bomb and had been down in the living room for a couple of years and was looking manky. Washing it was one of those make it or break it decisions. Rug Doctor hadn't really helped.

We washed the drive out the front of the house (new clean tar mac, slightly slopped) and then put the rug down on it. We hosed the rug and chucked Tesco value shampoo all over it. It was a boiling hot day so in just vest and skimpy shorts DH and i physically got on the rug and started shampooing it. Bloody hilarious, foam built up and we practically disappeared in it. It was like something out of a carry on film. Cars were slowing down as they passed (village).

We then spent an hour hosing and squeezing out the water. Then we humped the thing up onto the garden wall and then over onto the slope of the tiled garage roof (garage was lower than drive) which was sizzling hot in the sun. The rug took 4 days to get just about touch dry. We turned it, covered with a light sheet at night, ect. Mercifully we had no rain. Then it was light enough to bring back in the house and dry a bit more. It was a good month before it felt and smelt properly dry.

The rug was cleaner, but never quite the same. I would NEVER bother again Grin

At 9.50 out of argos I’d just get a new one tbh

Mybabystolemysanity · 22/01/2018 08:03

I've just RTFT looking for the cat.

Laiste, you've made it all worthwhile!

Laiste · 22/01/2018 08:06

You're welcome :)

LIZS · 22/01/2018 08:07

Morrisons/Timpsons charge about £18 iirc. In summer I might be tempted to wash it in the bath but would be impossible to dry atm.

Placeboooooooo · 22/01/2018 08:21

I was outside last night in my slippers and dressing gown rattling cat biscuits and calling him back. I think DD has traumatised him.

He’ll be back today st some point and I WILL get a picture!

acatcalledjohn · 22/01/2018 16:00

I'm not surprised poor kitty is traumatised. Did he catch a glimpse of himself in a mirror by any chance? Grin

Maverick66 · 22/01/2018 16:28

I totally mis read your daughter's age. I thought she was 14 Blush

RaspberryRippleCrisps · 22/01/2018 16:44

You COULD wash it in the bath tub,but you probably won't be able to lift it out after when it has quadrupled it's weight with water. And even if you can,it will probably take about a month to dry.

Ginkypig · 22/01/2018 16:54

Sorry placeboooooooo but screw your duvet this thread is all bout the cat!

SilverySurfer · 22/01/2018 17:01

I know this is radical but how about replacing the wee'd on duvet with sheets and woollen blankets? Honestly, they are a hundred times nicer.

I'm on a mission to kill all duvets. Do you hire your DD out? I will pay her well Grin
