I have never seen this. However, lots of people I know rave about it and say it's amazing. If I watch it am I likely to get hooked? Should I stay well away? Am I really missing something great? AIBU to be not that bothered?

See "Just want to play a game without being harassed" in AIBU

It seems like you can't decide whether to not watch it because you're not bothered or to not watch it because you might get hooked. Confused Why would you choose not to watch something because it might be enjoyable enough to get you hooked?!

Anyway, there's really only one way to find out. Start watching it and you'll either like it or you won't. I love it btw.

I love fantasy and have read the books but the gratuitous gore was too much for me - watched all but the last episode of series 1 and just didn't feel inspired to watch the rest.

The books are also awesome.

I hate fantasy and gore - but I love GoTs and do recommend! Enjoy

It has taken me 3 attempts but I'm now hooked on GoT. From everyone's description of it and everything I knew about it, I was convinced I'd like it - it's right up my street, but for some reason, I couldn't get into it. I tried twice without success.

Recently I decided to give it one more shot... and it's worked. I agree with the person above who said you have to pay attention watching it - which I suspect is why I struggled before - I tried to watch it while doing other things. This time I paid attention and got it... and now I'm hooked. I'm on series 2 at the min so a long way to go! It's really really good! :-) I'm glad I persevered and tried again - I couldn't understand why I wasn't getting into it when everything about it was typically what I'd like.

Put it this way; after watching the first six series and while waiting for S7, I persuaded a very sceptical DP to watch the first six series with me so I could recap.
He started off by going on about how he hates fantasy/swords and all that...
By S2 he was singing “Tits and Dragons” to the theme music with me.
He asked last week when S8 is out.

I was hooked from the beginning. DH took a glance and thought it too much like Lord of the Rings and switched off. One day I happened to be watching season 2 episode 9 and he took an interest. After that episode he went back and binge watched everything he missed and has been an avid watcher ever since.

I’m currently binge watching and to be honest I’m not getting the fuss, I mean it’s ok and I will continue watching as I feel invested in it now but it’s nothing like the amazing show I was expecting.
