I have never seen this. However, lots of people I know rave about it and say it's amazing. If I watch it am I likely to get hooked? Should I stay well away? Am I really missing something great? AIBU to be not that bothered?

DD and DH wanted to take the box set of S1 on holiday in 2013. I am not normally interested in fantasy type things (fell asleep during one of The Hobbit films) however I decided to go along with it. We all three got completely hooked and caught up with S2 and S3 as soon as possible. Since S4 we have been watching in real time. There have been some truly amazing episodes. And yes some violent and shocking ones but it is necessary to the story.

One of the satisfying things is that as the story progresses some of the strongest and most interesting characters are the women. They most definitely are not there just to drape adoring of a heroes arm!

MissionItsPossible · 21/01/2018 18:36

The first couple of episodes I found quite boring. But persevere.

thenightsky · 21/01/2018 18:39

I got hooked a bit late. DH had already watched half of series one whilst I was mumsnetting, so it was on in the background. I sort of picked up on certain characters by episode 3 or 4 and followed them only, and progressed from there to being totally hooked.

In fact, I think I might go back and binge watch season 1 again as I missed so much of the setting up of scenarios and characters.

Can someone also explain why people are deleting my messages? I feel like I'm being cyber bullied

Wow absolutely no idea why that one got deleted. Doesn't break any guidelines surely..people should be able to criticize a TV show

Degustibusnonestdisputandem1 · 21/01/2018 18:41

Spare a thought for us poor buggers who've been reading for over 20 years 😂😣

Nanny0gg · 21/01/2018 18:43

And I can honestly say that I have never hated a TV show character as much as I hated a certain young prince. Was odd to feel such rage over something fictional

Absolutely!

Notasperfectasallothermners · 21/01/2018 18:44

Kit Harrington.
No more to be said really.

I didn't get to read your earlier post so don't know why it was removed. But the only people who could delete it would be the Mumsnet moderators and they would have had a good reason so your certainly not being bullied. Perhaps follow the link to the Talk Guidelines and see if you can work out how you fell foul of them. Failing that just ask the moderator what specifically prompted it's deletion then you will know for another time.

Great show, if totally bonkers in place.

Littlewhitedove · 21/01/2018 18:49

Wow...thanks peeps for all the comments.I'm not good at gore but love anything historical (fictional or not). I think I'll give it a try but may have to wait until after the 6 Nations Rugby as DH will monopolise the TV and I won't get a look in 😕.

I’m hooked. It’s fucking awful in content theme but it hooked me. Case in hand in the first series: you grow to really root for a character that performs a terrible act in the first episode. Amazing writing.

The last series was actually quite tame in GoT standards.

Watch it. Go on.

Eilasor · 21/01/2018 18:53

It's one of those shows that the more you re-watch it the more you notice about the plot. There's always so much going on that you miss something (usually nothing vital, but it adds to it once you notice it).

DH got me into it and i love it. Not my usual kind of thing at all.

Vicxy · 21/01/2018 18:53

I quoted it, the post was just

I didn't like it, crudity, violence, and nudity from the off, it's basically a pornography with bloody beheadings in between.

Very odd deletion.

DenPerry · 21/01/2018 18:53

I couldn't get into the first few episodes, but pushed through and then was hooked. DP got sick of the theme music Grin It's very gory but I love that.

Never seen it as Sky TV and BT do not enter my house.

Curiosity, are there any characters played by women in their twenties who keep their clothes on?

Nanny0gg · 21/01/2018 19:05

I hate LotR

LouHotel · 21/01/2018 19:12

Hold off for another 6 months as the wait for the final season to come out is long.

strugglingtodomybest · 21/01/2018 19:17

Probably.

Should I stay well away?
Why?
Am I really missing something great?
Imo, yes.
AIBU to be not that bothered?
No.

I came to GoT late, thought it wouldn't be my thing, then binge watched it obsessively with DH and then read all the books. Love it!

lynmilne65 · 21/01/2018 19:24

Well, a friend lent me series 1234 box sets and that was me for 3 days completely square eyed !!

FlyingElbows · 21/01/2018 19:24

I too was really scathing about the gratuitous nature of it at first (and just left Mr Elbows to it) but I re-watched it and it is awesome. The gratuitous hedonism and violence of the beginning are essential to the rest of the plot. It's not for the easily offended or lovers of pearl clutching but it's worth a try. You will never be more pleased to see someone killed or more in awe of a mythical beastie.

Winteriscoming18 · 21/01/2018 19:24

Jon Dnow say no more 😍

thenightsky · 21/01/2018 19:27

MrrFluffleBug has got deleted again? WTF.

lynmilne65 · 21/01/2018 19:29

I need to know why flufflebug keeps getting deleted Hmm

BMW6 · 21/01/2018 19:44

flufflebug has been barred apparently because he was being a salacious twat on another thread - about salacious twats on Words with Friends. Smile
