Inspired by the earlier thread on places you've been underwhelmed by, I want to travel more and hoping to see the nordics and more of Asia soon, so inspire me with places you've loved please!

I'll go - Sicily, Taormina - stayed in a beautiful but modernised 18th century hotel with an infinity pool over looking the bay, the streets were full of bussle, beautiful architecture, food was ok, but most enjoyed just out drinking on the stepped bar in the middle of the town with free nibbles, in the beautiful warm summers evenings. Never bothered with the stoney beach. Local wine was amazing. Just loved it all.

Rejkiavic - loved the blue lagoon!

LA Santa Monica, love the sun shine, chilled vibe, beautiful beaches (homelessness was upsetting). amazing restaurants and food on abbey kinney (Venice).

Bali, loved the people, food, scenery, amazing and cheap as chips villa rental for pure luxury, hated the long flight.

Inspire me!

Loved

London - i feel very lucky to work there, even if I live 100 miles away, and would love to live closer but cannot afford to.

Croyde, North Devon - my favourite place in the UK for holidays. Beautiful beach and lovely chocolate box village.

Florida - there's so much to do, it never gets dull.

Cologne/Dusseldorf - the best food, nice beer, friendly people.

Forty Thieves bar, Diani, Kenya. Beach bar on the Indian Ocean.

Driving the 'French Line' Simpson Desert to Birdsville, Australia. The Big Red and such solitude.

Timbuktu, Mali West Africa. Such history and remote location.

Cholos bar, Nungwi Zanzibar. Great beach bar.

Iran. The people really are friendly. Nothing like the media would have you believe.

Driving from Cairns to Cape York, Queensland. Such a remote and difficult location to reach.

Germany is beautiful and the castles are straight out of a fairytale.
Venice is magical and exactly like all the pictures.
Paris was beautiful, but I wasn't impressed with the view from up high- very samey.

I loved Graz in Austria, Lisbon, the Italian Alps (especially Cogne), Pisa, Florence and Venice and just about everywhere else in Italy except Milan, the Rhine, Berlin, Bavaria, the Maramures (Romania), Andalucia and just about everywhere else I have been lucky to visit except for Barcelona (and I was a bit dubious about Prague).

In the UK I love the Peak District the most. I also love Cornwall and Yorkshire, especially York and of course London! I'm a bit 'meh' about Devon. The only place I have been a bit 'meh' about in Scotland is Stornaway, but I blame the Free Church of Scotland for banning colour and fun there. Otherwise, I love the Highlands and Islands, especially Skye. One day I hope to see it without rain.

Rome for the history and architecture

Savannah for the amazing antebellum houses that I fantasise about living in, possibly dressed as Scarlett O'Hara

Monument Valley because it's stunning

Nashville for the live music and barbecue

Kynance Cove because it's beautiful

Chicago because it has everything a great city should have

I'm easily pleased. I like most places I go.
Italy is the country I love the most apart from Scotland.
The Amalfi coast even the most touristy bits like Sorrento. Rome, Lakes Garda and Como Florence Verona Pompeii Especially the cathedrals.
The Peak District was fab and we stayed in a lovely hotel with roosting swallows who shat all over the windows. Hassop Hall Hotel

@hungrymum no, we had heard it was incredibly busy and crowded so went inland to Ek Balam instead. Absolutely staggering. You must go if you possibly can.

Oh that’s a shame. I went in the 80’s, probably around ‘86 before mexico was a “thing”. There were only two bus loads there, all elderly americans. We had a fab tour with a guide before being allowed to explore. I have some great photos.

Athens, some parts are not so great but the area around Acropoli is so magical you can feel the history

MumOfTwoooo · 23/01/2018 17:57

Scotland! went last year for a holiday for the first time in a looonnng time and I loved it! My DP and I rented a car from Edinburgh and drove all the way up to the Isle of Harris and Lewis - somehow managed to get the only good weather of the year and it was amazing!!

Lake Orta - so very romantic and quieter than Como & Garda
Elterwater, Lake District - gorgeous escape from urban life and it has the best pub
Paris - my husband surprised me with a tour around the sites in a chauffeur driven 2CV at night with a bottle of champagne. Amazing.
