There's a ghost in my house .....

wooo69 · 20/01/2018 19:04

I have never believed in ghosts, however some background – I live in an old woollen mill that has been converted into 35 apartments and have been here 10 years. There is evidence in the local churchyard of mill workers who died at work and it was attacked by the Luddites. The My DD and GD used to live in another apartment and one morning all 4 taps in the bathroom were on full (GD was in a cot and not capable of getting out), there was no explanation, the taps were fully working and turned off as normal. When GD was nearly 3 she woke my DD one night with her crying, when DD went to her she said “I don't like Tom, tell him to go away”. DD said “Tom, GD doesn't want you here please go”. Nothing happened again.

Other residents have moved out because unexplainable things have happened.

Last night before I went to bed I took my glasses off and left them on top of a cabinet in the lounge as I do every night, I also plugged my phone into the charger again I do this every night.

This morning when I got up and came into the lounge I picked up my glasses, one of the lenses had fallen out and the screw that holds the lens in was on the floor. When I picked up my phone it hadn't charged and the connector that goes into the phone was bent at 90 degrees. There is only DH and I here and I was last to bed and first up.

Has a ghost decided to come and live here?

paranoid the bloke letting himself in is way more scary.

MrsDilber · 21/01/2018 04:39

I've always been fascinated in the paranormal, but I don't believe (bonkers, right), I like the history/folklore side of it.

I think, in this age, with CCTV and smartphones, something undisputable would've been captured by now, it would be on the 6 o'clock news, top headline.

If I ever find myself as a ghost, I'm going to stand behind the Queen, waving like a loon, on her Queens Speech broadcast.

Theresnonamesleft · 21/01/2018 05:21

We caught orbs on camera. We have taken thousands of pictures with the same device in the same conditions, since, but never caught them in the same place. Haven't got that many pictures either of the orbs.

I like the idea that they are an imprint.

I mentioned this all to the shrink, but her eyebrows almost hit her arse and sent me for unrequired tests. As apparently some people have mentioned that just before or after a seizure they mention an unusual smell. But like I said, other people have also encountered Sam, and they wouldn't agree to placate me. Just mentioned this in case people search my name and see I have mh.

YesMam · 21/01/2018 07:09

How about we return to haunt all those who have harmed us?! Now that would be fun and worth eternity trapped wandering the earth. Now after all the ex partners and nasty acquaintances die we could move onto haunt random cheating partners, thieves etc and prevent crimes etc. I'd love to do that, there's no need to haunt decent folk but every need to terrify the nasty bastards.

scorpio93 · 21/01/2018 07:51

I think even non believers will enjoy this story...

When I was in my late teens I went 'ghost hunting' in Clapham Woods, UK.
There was about 10 of us and for reference, I was the only female there (ALL sober).
We were all walking down this specific pathway and ALL started to feel heavy footed and nauseous...
There was an odd smell and we all just felt really anxious and uneasy. Another path and we all got the hot and cold sweats for about 20seconds.
Another path but more open with less trees, near a tree with ropes hanging down from it (people used to sacrifice cats there, there was also a podium thing), I decided to be braver than all the lads and walked off ahead about 15 paces. My friend was taking random pics anyway to see if the camera picked up something none of us noticed. He took a pic of me walking ahead.
We all felt very uncomfortable at times and at other times during the hunt, almost elated!

We get back to the cars after a few hours and all 3 cars wouldn't start... brilliant.
So whilst we waited down this dark road for the AA, I decided to google Clapham Woods... the info found was completely relevant to everything we had experienced and couldn't have known beforehand!
Then we decided to look at the pics my friend had taken... orbs everywhere, about 8 around me in the picture of me on my own and weird energy type looking smudges here and there... Now I'm not an expert but this did send shivers down my spine.

The breakdown cover cars arrived about 50 minutes later. Immediately the cars worked when the drivers were told to turn the keys...

Very odd experience and I haven't had the nerve to return... But out of curiosity and for the thrill, I will do one day lol.

I have other weird stories, but they're not as interesting as this one lol.

deaddeadgood · 21/01/2018 20:24

I've got a hospital onenoknownfather. Told it before though.

Posted this on another thread before but here goes:

My mum worked in the Blackpool Victoria Hospital as a trauma theatre nurse. During one night shift after they had cleaned down and locked up the theatre, her and a colleague were in the staff room drinking tea.

They heard the theatre table being wheeled into the theatre upstairs. They have the keys to the theatre in front of them on the table they went upstairs and saw that the gurney was back in place in the middle of the theatre room and there was no one else around we could have done it. The Table could not have rolled into the room because the theatre doors didn't open that way.

It is believed that it is the ghost of a doctor/surgeon who died on his way in to save the life of a woman and her unborn baby. However he died in a car crash on the way hospital as did the patient. Everyone thought it was him trying to complete his surgery

NoKnownFather · 21/01/2018 21:34

deaddeadgood ....that just sent a shiver down my spine! Thanks for reposting as I missed it previously. I guess a hospital is the ideal situation for ghosts as, generally, there is more death in a hospital than other places?

Panda81 · 21/01/2018 23:27

@e1y1 I thought someone would be along to tell me about a ghost in a new build Grin

Seriously these stories spook me out, I probably shouldn't read them. I would be absolutely terrified if I thought I saw or heard a ghost!!!

StrictlyPannnn · 21/01/2018 23:34

R Dean Taylor was the first white recording artist to sign for Tamela Motown. Troo fakt.

NoKnownFather · 21/01/2018 23:46

Panda81 from my own experience there was absolutely no need to be terrified...although I often wondered how I would respond 'if' I ever saw one as I was always a non-believer. I have changed my opinion now though.

An old family member used to say 'it is people walking around the streets you need to be careful of, not a deceased person'.

The ghost/previous owner of my house wasn't malicious in any way, he just seemed to be wandering around as if looking for someone, presumably his DW who was living here with him when he passed, don't know as I am far from expert in this field. Once I talked to him in a calm voice and told him where his DW now lives, he hasn't returned. Don't know if that means he went to her new house or ???

At the time, I didn't know if this would work and made sure nobody else was around to hear me talking to the ghost as it felt really weird and anyone might have thought I'd lost my marbles...LOL. That was 2-3 yrs ago and he hasn't returned and I had put it out of my mind until reading this thread, but, there is a whole different atmosphere here since 'he' left!

Roxocube · 21/01/2018 23:58

I was convinced my new house had a ghost for months after moving in, scared myself shitless there would be massive bangs with no explanations every few evenings and definatly in the house even if no one else was in...

Turned out it was from the radiator pipe in the hallway popping out of it's wall holder, my 5 year old would notice it was out and helpfully push it back in without me even knowing it was a thing, only for it to come springing out with a bang a few hours later always at night time. Bastard thing.

So no legit ghost but I get why people believe in them

e1y1 · 22/01/2018 00:00

@Panda81. Sorry Grin any consolation, I haven’t seen any.

paranoidpammywhammy2 · 22/01/2018 00:26

MrsDilber

You try telling people you think the old resident is breaking into your house and making cups of tea. No one believes you and everyone questions how paranoid you're getting. I think they'd believe me more if I thought it was a ghost.

My house feels very safe. I've never felt more at peace before when I'm alone in here.

It was whilst I was out and then came back that it felt strange.

After the front door was replaced I had some vandalism in the back garden. I always leave the keys in that door and the bolts in. Since then there have been a few more instances but I've never caught anything and the police suggested I get cameras and try to record whoever it is.

Soon2BeMumTo3 · 22/01/2018 00:34

panda a new build built on an ancient burial ground... wooooooo 😂

Panda81 · 22/01/2018 00:38

@NoKnownFather did he not make you jump though even if he wasn't malicious?

NoKnownFather · 22/01/2018 01:16

The first time I noticed him I did jump and felt rather creepy, like someone was watching me. I was sitting on the lounge watching TV, so closed the door, opened it an hour or so later while telling myself I was crazy as hell and not to be so stupid. Sure enough he was still there!!

Roxocube that would give you the creeps and I had done checks to see if a light was reflecting from somewhere else, maybe there was a neighbours cat locked in the house accidentally but everything came up blank, not even a pipe like in yours.

finnmcool ....who knows? I don't dabble in this stuff so someone who knows more than me might wish to reply. I just called him a ghost, but your thought could be feasible too?

SockUnicorn · 22/01/2018 04:10

Woke up and couldn’t sleep. So glad I read this thread HmmConfused

I have had a fair few experiences but the most undeniable one (for me) was when DH and I moved into our first home here (Australia). It was a little 2 bedroom ground floor flat. One flat above us only and it was empty.

I was woken one night by the sound of a baby screaming. Dh didn't hear it... but we don't have a baby. It seemed to be coming from the 2nd bedroom (opposite end of the flat). As I got halfway across the kitchen the crying stopped. I had an impending sense of doom. I'm not sure if I thought paranormal or "has someone dumped a baby in my wheelie bin?" But I definitely thought something's not right.. I got to the bedroom. I saw a woman crying over an empty cot(the room should've been completely empty) . I thought I was dreaming, the woman had long dark hair, olive skin and was wearing a white nightie. I tried to talk to her but at first it was like I wasn't even there. She didn't seem to see me.
Then all of a sudden she turned and screamed at me for taking her baby. She just kept saying "you've taken my baby! Where is my baby? I know she's here!" I slammed the door shut, ran across the house and locked myself into the bedroom. Dh was still asleep.

With the noise she was making I was beginning to think I'd imagined it... surely Dh would've heard it and woke?
I tried to forget about it and thought I was going a bit nuts.

2 days later, I was working late and Dh got home before me (rare). As he approached the house he could see someone sat on the living room sofa. He thought it was me. (I have dark hair, by the way). He opened the front door and heard a baby crying, seemed to be coming from the 2nd bedroom. He ran in and realised the sofa was empty. Went to the 2nd bedroom and saw it empty (as it should be) but with the woman curled up in the corner sobbing. He tried to approach her and she disappeared while screaming.
He rang me shaken up, I was leaving work by this point. I couldn't understand what he was saying so just rushed home quickly. He looked like death warmed up and was sat on the sofa. He told me what happened, we talked and We made a decision then to move and we were trying to think of a good excuse for the landlord to allow us to break lease and move elsewhere (we had 4 months left on the lease).

That night I got up for a pee, I was sat in the ensuite and heard rustling around and footsteps in the bedroom. Presumed Dh was also getting up for a pee.
All I heard then was a female scream. She was standing next to DH and started to shout "X isn't breathing! Phone an ambulance! She's gone blue!"
Dh got up and ran for the bathroom and locked himself in thanks Hun and the woman ran to the 2nd bedroom. Then it all stopped. We searched the house, everything was back to normal and she was gone.

We packed our things and moved into a motel while we wrangled with the landlord. When I was at work a coworker said to me "I can't believe you took that unit on SuchNsuch street... I wouldn't" I asked why. Then she told me what had happened (and I was able to verify most of it with a newspaper report)

Young couple bought it, moved in. Had a young baby (earlier referred to by me as "x", same name). Baby died, cot death. Husband was blamed locally. No charges brought against him. He killed himself, in the house. Wife came home, found him dead. Called emergency services. Got the relevant "bits" done, put the house up for sale. Then a few weeks later killed herself in the house (the house wasn't yet sold). It's said they all died in one of the bedrooms but no one knows which one. I strongly suspect it was the spare room.

My heart aches for her, the possibility that she's still reliving those emotions Sad I found out where her family (mum, dad, siblings etc) lived. I considered telling them... but I came to the conclusion that if it was my daughter knowing that would fucking torment me mentally. Or I'd look like a loon. So I kept quiet and just moved away.

OrraBoralis · 22/01/2018 04:52

I'm a non believer but this one had me thinking. DH and I bought a 1900's, 2 storey upper flat many, many years ago. At the time we had no kids but did have 2 cats. Often when the cats were on our bed they would turn quickly, stare into the corner of the bedroom then take off. DH worked away a lot at the time and many times when he was away I would feel "something" lying on my feet when I was in bed. Initially I thought it was just the cats but after this happening a few times I would check where they were and every time they were lying next to me (in DH's spot) fast asleep.

About a year after we moved in my mum said she had met a lovely lady in the hairdresser and it turned out that she owned the house 30 years previously, she said she loved the place and had brought up her 3 children there and it was a very happy home. I asked mum to ask her if she had a dog - I thought it might have been a ghost dog Smile on my feet. Turns out yes the lady did have a dog and it used to sleep in the corner of my bedroom, it was a wee Scottie dog and occasionally would be allowed to sleep on the bed!! I was quite thrilled at the thought of ghosty Scottie.

We moved overseas and rented out the flat but my DD and DS have both lived in that room over the past 5 years and neither of them have felt Scottie Sad I live there for 6 months of the year but in another bedroom but I will be moving into my old room when I go back next month (it has an enormous walk-in wardrobe) so who knows, maybe Scottie will come back?

NoKnownFather · 22/01/2018 05:20

WOW!!! that's scary just reading it, can't imagine what you both went through and unsure how I would have handled that situation. Sounds like they all died in the spare room...such a sad, sad story. Not sure what I'd do in relation to telling the family because they might appreciate it, but then it could cause all kinds of problems for them and unless you knew them (or know someone who did) I think you made the right choice. Sometimes you have to put your own wellbeing ahead of others and that's not being selfish either.

Fortunately the ghost here didn't speak and he moved around quietly but I still had a kind of uneasy feeling...skin crawling type of sensation. I felt like an idiot talking to him not even knowing if that would work...or not! Because I had bought the house from his DW I didn't know his christian name (he was already deceased by then) but knew his surname, so I just asked 'are you MrXXX?' ...no answer, so that's when I started talking and as I did he stood still (as if listening to me) but still not saying a word. I had checked his DW's new address before telling him and gave directions from this house as it's within walking distance. Apparently DW has since passed away so I don't know where he is now?

You do doubt yourself at first don't you? Until posting here, I haven't told anyone because I know I wouldn't be believed....also, like you, I had the idea if he became worse then I might sell the house and it was best not to make it public knowledge. Now that he's moved on it's not a problem, but non-believers would still think I am crazy...maybe they are correct, at times!! Smile

NoKnownFather · 22/01/2018 05:22

OrraBoralis....please keep us updated after you move back?

AnneWiddecombesHandbag · 22/01/2018 06:11

When we first moved into our house we used to see black cats out the corner of our eyes. Me and my husband both independently noticed it. We were told that is a sign someone had died here. Not sure if there is any truth In that. We know that someone did die here though so who knows!

The person who died here was a family member of mine so I feel no malice or anything but the black cats were creeping us out a little bit so we went out and got two lovely black cats. :)

MerryShitmas · 22/01/2018 06:27

I'm glad you got it sorted!
We did briefly consider getting some kind of medium in but came to the conclusion that we wouldn't really trust them and they'd probably want $$$ for their services and we'd be no better for it. We felt safer moving and felt it was best.

I did really doubt myself at first, I didn't even tell Dh until a couple days later (as detailed in my op, when he came home before I did and saw her) because I genuinely thought I'd had some kind of sleep paralysis/lucid dream or something....
then when we found out about what happened there it all sort of clicked.

I've heard via the grapevine that the entire "block" (2 flats) has been demolished now. I'm not sure why or what'll happen now, I'm nowhere near it so I can't go and have a nose. Likely would otherwise. I really hope she can be at peace one day. As a side note I do wonder how she'd feel knowing her home/families home has been demolished. Maybe it'll allow her to move on to wherever we go at the end? Who knows...

LadyOfTheCanyon · 22/01/2018 09:00

I'm not woo at all and also think that surely there would be 'proof' by now, however I have had several experiences that I haven't been able to explain to myself entirely comfortably.

Many years ago as a teenager, I was in a house after a party. Four of us in one room about to go to sleep, one other couple (boyfriend/girlfriend) in another room. Suddenly: screaming -went rushing in to the other room to find that all the posters from one wall ( think entirely covered wall) had been ripped off and thrown against the farthest wall. The couple were cowering under the duvet gibbering. They'd been having sex when all the posters just tore from the wall and flew across the room.

In my Gran's house there was (apparently) a little white dog that sat beside the front door. Invisible to everyone but children under the age of 4 or so. Generations of children in the family commented on the dog, as did other children who were visiting.

In the house I grew up in we used to hear footsteps on the stairs most nights. My mum would tell me that we were hearing footsteps from the adjoining house ( staircases on either side of the wall) so as not to terrify me, when in fact she was scared stiff as the footsteps would also be heard when there was no one next door and would sometimes continue into her bedroom.

When I was a teenager I was in the house alone and went into the kitchen with the feeling that something was 'off.' The dining room led from the kitchen and I often used to feel that something was standing just out of sight in the dining room. As I stood in the middle of the kitchen that day, the mugs that were hanging on hooks under the cupboards all started to slowly bump against the wall. Very deliberate bumps, not the shaking you would get from an earth tremor. Nothing else was shaking or rattling and the area affected was on the other side of the wall to where I used to feel the presence. I just stood in absolute terror for about a minute while this happened. Couldn't go in the dining room for ages afterwards.
Interestingly years later when I mentioned to my mum about this she said " Oh Christ, I remember you being terrified of the ghost at our first house, I didn't want to tell you the was something in the dining room in this one!"
The feeling of dread in that room disappeared immediately they had the downstairs remodelled to remove that wall.

I used to work in a shop that was actually a 17th century house, with a cellar and lots of floors. We regularly used to see a figure in black in the cellar. And several of us had our names whispered in our ears while we were down there. Which was simply terrifying!

I often worked late there on my own, and I used to hear footsteps regularly going up and down the stairs and see movement in the cellar on these occasions but I used to talk to 'her' as I went about the shop in a very cheerful voice, telling her what I was doing, why I needed to pop upstairs etc. I think she got quite attached to me as the more I talked to her the more I felt she was following me around.

One particular night she seemed very active, lots of running up and down the stairs and bumps from upstairs floors. I heard her come into the shop, which she rarely did, and as I looked towards the door, there seemed to be a patch of air that was just a shimmery type of darkness in the air which seems to glide right up to where I was standing. I was in a part of the shop that was a 20th century addition. If I moved back into the 'old' part of the shop she would move away from me but if I went to the new part she only seemed able to be able to come as far as the wall and then moved around restlessly. I wondered if to her I was coming in and out of focus as I moved between the two sites.

I'm sure that energy and memory are linked in some way. I also think that it is naive and arrogant to say that we have discovered all there is to know about the world. A vast amount of our brains remains a mystery still.

I would LOVE a ghost dog!! I can't have a (real/living) dog due to money and work commitments so having a ghost dog would be great!!
