To be pissed off at Waitrose?

First world problems I know!

Ordered shopping to be delivered last week- turned up 1/2 hour late and some of the fresh stuff was well past it’s best. Complained, refunded a couple of bits, of fair enough.

Ordered again for yesterday, delivery between 6/7, we have dinner plans at 7.30 but restaurant close to house so should be fine. Come 7.15 get a call to say driver will be there at 7.40 is that ok?

No it’s bloody not ok, I ordered between 6/7 because that’s when I want my shopping! Not at some arbitrary time later on in the evening when it’s convenient for you Waitrose.

I say can you deliver tomorrow morning between 9/10 instead? Yes no problem at all they say.

Now they’ve just called to say they’ll deliver between 10 & 10.30 arghhhhhhh.

Again we have plans that we’re having to alter to accommodate.

Online shopping is meant to be convenient!

It’s all them pesky motorists getting in the way, you can’t expect the driver not to be held up in traffic

Delatron · 20/01/2018 08:56

Sounds dreadful! Never had a problem with Ocado...!

TheQueenOfWands · 20/01/2018 08:58

Vote with your tootsies, go elsewhere.

gunsandbanjos · 20/01/2018 08:58

Surely they build the possibility of traffic into their delivery route schedule?

OP posts:
gunsandbanjos · 20/01/2018 08:59

I’d love to use Ocado but they don’t deliver to my area. Which is odd as they have a delivery hub about a 10 minute drive from me.

Massive overreaction for 40 minutes delay. Have you never sat in traffic on your way to the supermarket? Why would you cut it so fine if you had plans?

BluebellTheDonkey · 20/01/2018 09:02

I use Tesco, I know they had some bad press over Xmas but I have never had a problem with them. On the rare occasion they are running a little early/late they ring to let me know. Try another supermarket and see if you prefer it, you'll probably be able to get money off with an introductory offer.

GlitteryFluff · 20/01/2018 09:03

I think that's pretty bad tbh.
I've had a Tesco delivery every week for about 6 years.
It's been late 3 times in all that. Once when there was snow - about 30mins late, once where a few of their vans had broken down (they sent it in a taxi instead) - about 20mins late and once about 5 mins late due to traffic.

LizzieSiddal · 20/01/2018 09:03

I would be annoyed too if you have other plans.

But when I order I always make sure someone is in for a couple of hours, so there’s no panic if there is a delay.

gunsandbanjos · 20/01/2018 09:05

In what way am I massively overreacting? I said at the beginning I knew it was a first world problem, do I need to put light hearted too for people who can’t extrapolate?

I didn’t cut it fine, they offer a 6/7 slot, I took that as the restaurant is only 5 minutes away giving me a 25 minute cushion. How much time should I have built in? An hour, maybe 2 just in case?

OP posts:
capitalL · 20/01/2018 09:05

In my experience, no delivery can be relied on to turn up exactly when it's meant to. It's annoying but there's not much you can do about it. Getting deliveries so close to the time for other commitments is playing with fire.

gunsandbanjos · 20/01/2018 09:08

I’ve never had an issue with other companies, I’ve used Sainsbury’s and Tesco who’ve always been on time.

Interesting that the supposedly “better “ company is the only one to give me problems.

MissionItsPossible · 20/01/2018 09:09

Stop ordering from Waitrose

Sparkletastic · 20/01/2018 09:14

Sounds fucking annoying. Nag Ocado to start delivering to your area.

Northernlass99 · 20/01/2018 09:14

YANBU. That’s not on. I use Sainsbury’s and they have never been late. In fact sometimes they have been early and sit in the van outside the house until the allotted hour. Try a different supermarket.

gunsandbanjos · 20/01/2018 09:15

I will stop ordering from Waitrose, I don’t regularly shop online as I tend to use the Lidl near me.

But it’s been a busy couple of weeks and they had some good offers on so thought I’d use them for the convenience...

OP posts:
moochypooch · 20/01/2018 09:16

That would annoy me too! I'd be voting with my feet!

LyraPotter · 20/01/2018 09:18

I would be annoyed too, OP. It's their job to provide the service you've paid for, and not everyone just has 40 mins spare to wait around for them to turn up late. I would raise it with them as something that's happened more than once.

Rebeccaslicker · 20/01/2018 09:19

I've always had brilliant experiences with Waitrose.

But Tesco online....... ordered a big shop from them for a Cornwall cottage holiday. First few days were just DP and his mum and the toddler as I had to work. MIL is veggie so I ordered lots of nice veggie nibbles, eg those little higgidy rolls (which are divine by the way, they do feta, red pepper and spinach and cheese and onion chutney!) and veggie quiche.

They'd substituted sausage rolls, ham quiche and bacon bites.

Now I get that you sell out, but surely it doesn't take a degree in astrophysics to work out that someone ordering all that stuff might be vegetarian...!

Doublechocolatetiffin · 20/01/2018 09:21

I’d be annoyed too and would stop using them. I’ve just signed up for Tesco again, couldn’t justify the extra cost of Ocado and I like that Tesco let you change your order up till midnight the night before.

FittonTower · 20/01/2018 09:24

I use Morrison's and they're never been late I don't think. They're usually early when it snows, I think I must be near the depot or whatever because they like to get to me first before they set off into the peak district!

Glumglowworm · 20/01/2018 09:31

Time to change supermarket

I use Asda, don’t think they’ve ever been late, although they’re fairly often early but usually call to check if it’s ok or will wait outside til my slot.

one delay, well these things happen. But two in two days? That’s them trying to squeeze in more deliveries than they have capacity for

LoniceraJaponica · 20/01/2018 09:34

I didn't realise that Ocado and Waitrose had separate deliveries. I though Ocado was Waitrose.

I have used Ocado a couple of times and they cocked up spectacularly both times. I have never had a problem with Tesco or Sainsburys. We use Tesco mainly because Sainsburys were late to the game for delivering round where we live.

Oly5 · 20/01/2018 09:34

I used to use Waitrose online and they gave really short shelf lifes.
Switched to Ocado, got the same Waitrose stuff, but much longer shelf life’s.
I’d complain and switch supermarkets

C8H10N4O2 · 20/01/2018 09:38

I though Ocado was Waitrose

Ocado used to provide Waitrose delivery service but at the end of that contract Waitrose started to do their own deliveries instead. Effectively Ocado enabled Waitrose to get into home delivery fast whilst they built their own solution.
