To ask for your ideas in helping me plan a fake holiday

Me and DP haven't had a holiday in a year. We're both self employed and have had huge expenses this past year.

Its really grinding us down and we just need to hang in there for another 2 to 3 months before we can get away.

In the meantime I've had the idea that I'm going to create a fake holiday abroad when he comes home this evening.

I was going to make chilli anyway so I guess we're going to Mexico.

I'll prepare some guac and salsa and make margaritas for when he arrives, and will have some Mexican music playing when he gets in. Ill put the heating on full blast and wear a summer dress.

Any other good ideas?

Ambient sound creator, to add things like crickets, waves, people talking in the background, distant guitars! Anything you like, have a play :)

OMG we do this kind of thing often. Next week you could go to china or japan! The options are endless. Bon Voyage!

Eltonjohnssyrup · 19/01/2018 08:22

Ooh! I'm going to do this now on Sat!

EggsonHeads · 19/01/2018 08:24

Music. Heavily scented flowers like lilies also help creat atmosphere. Or a fruity scented candle.

A really bright light bulb in the living room, heating up, sun loungers, sun glasses with a photo of the beach stuck to them and sea noises playing in he background... ooh and then you can rub sun cream on him and apply sand to it... okay perhaps not that bit 😃

Lay out your towels on the sofa and lie on them.

Lay out your towels on the sofa and lie on them.

No buy new ones and claim they have been put out by the German tourists

Blackteadrinker77 · 19/01/2018 09:02

Could you get a sombrero?

Then you can have a Mexican dance off, there is also a traditional game called pass the sombrero.

Do you have paper plates? There is a tradition at parties that you paint them and judge who wins.

I'm not doing limbo or pinatas.

Glad I RTFT before I commented.

Bedsox · 19/01/2018 09:29

Hehe OP you sound hilariously bonkers! I mean that in a good way! How thoughtful and what a fun idea! Bet its a blast living at your house! Get a paddling pool!!

AnotherShirtRuined · 19/01/2018 14:21

This sounds like so much fun. Am thinking of stealing this idea to do with the kids during the summer holidays as we will be staying at home.

OP, please come back tomorrow and tell us how it went Smile

We used to do this and I would make up the spare bed, put chocolates on the pillow and flowers in the room to pretend it was a boutique hotel. Towels in fancy rolls too.

GlitterUnicornsAndAllThatJazz · 19/01/2018 15:11

@JenTeale

Stealing the making up the bed with chocolates thing

Paddling pool in the sitting room!

GreyMorning · 19/01/2018 15:30

Put towels on the sofa and tell him he can't sit on it as you reserved it this morning

crackerjacket · 19/01/2018 15:30

Ah, ok, i thought you meant like actually plan the holiday, like the 'we have 8 grand to spend on five weeks vacation' thread

Enjoy your chilli, amigo

crackerjacket · 19/01/2018 15:31

Have you done a tinfoil swan yet?

OlennasWimple · 19/01/2018 15:34

Make a big jug of water and ice cubes

Refuse to drink the water because you don't know where the ice cubes have come from

Get some bottles of water to brush your teeth with at bedtime
