If you're an unemployed waster then you should have a vasectomy!!!

Ben Bradley, an MP, wrote in a blogpost, 6 years ago, that the country would be soon “drowning in a vast sea of unemployed wasters” if workless families had four or five children while others limited themselves to one or two.
This is what he said:

''It’s horrendous that there are families out there that can make vastly more than the average wage, (or in some cases more than a bloody good wage) just because they have 10 kids. Sorry but how many children you have is a choice; if you can’t afford them, stop having them! Vasectomies are free.

There are hundreds of families in the UK who earn over £60,000 in benefits without lifting a finger because they have so many kids (and for the rest of us that’s a wage of over £90,000 before tax!).

People have to take responsibility for their own lives, and if they are struggling but working hard to help themselves then they should get help. But if they choose to have 10 kids they should take responsibility for that choice and look after them, not expect everyone else to foot the bill!

Families who have never worked a day in their lives having 4 or 5 kids and the rest of us having 1 or 2 means it’s not long before we’re drowning in a vast sea of unemployed wasters that we pay to keep!''

So What to do you think? Do you agree with Ben Bradley or do you think he is being unreasonable?

He's got a point but vasectomies is not the answer. Besides that just stops the men creating children, the women (like the mother of 8 who believes she's too pretty to work) can still go get pregnant.

The government did the right thing capping it at 2.

If it's so easy you'll be rich!
Good luck providing reams of evidence from consultants and attending tour face to face interview. A friend who is a double amputee who can't walk just got rejected.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/01/2018 18:38

having a issue does not get you DLA

Not in itself, no - it's the day to day effects and especially how they're described which will do that

The use of the word was mine, though, rather than something which was said to me; it was meant to encompass the collection of lies which would have taken a lot longer to write out, and which may have been pretty identifying

Lovely333 · 17/01/2018 18:38

I agree with him to an extent, Especially to the nrps that go around having kid after kid and dont pay for their first lot of kids or see them. Definitely need a vasectomy.

strangerhoesagain · 17/01/2018 18:39

He’s right

Firesuit · 17/01/2018 18:42

I have googled, and it appears to not be the case that 2-child benefit limits apply when there are no extra children born before 6 April 2017, not even for new claims. (I had to choose my words carefully there, read to the end of this post to see why.)

Here are my links.

Universal Credit

In general, you will be entitled to an additional amount for any child born before 6 April 2017.

If you have 3 or more children you won’t be able to make a new Universal Credit claim...

f you have 3 or more children you may be able to claim Child Tax Credit and other benefits.

www.gov.uk/guidance/universal-credit-and-families-with-more-than-2-children-information-for-claimants

Child tax credit new claim

www.gov.uk/child-tax-credit/new-claim

If all your children were born before 6 April 2017
You could get the ‘child element’ of Child Tax Credit for all of your children.

If one or more of your children were born on or after 6 April 2017
You could get the child element of Child Tax Credit for up to 2 children.

So, if you had a fourth child after 6th April 2017, a third child born before then could also be excluded from a new claim. It still takes a parental decision to have a child after 6th April 2017 for benefits to be limited to two children.

ForalltheSaints · 17/01/2018 18:44

How many children have those members of the Cabinet with families got? Nine have more than two children.

Boris Johnson has four (allegedly a fifth)
Philip Hammond has three.
David Davis has three
David Gauke has three
Jeremy Hunt has three
Greg Clark has three
Sajid Javid has four.
David Mundell has three.
Matthew Hancock has three.

So perhaps politicians are not the ones to criticise.

please apply for pip. Right now. Today

I don't need to, Brennan - the application I've been involved in has only recently been granted after the kind of evidence you mentioned was submitted

Very sorry to hear about your friend, though - I trust they'll make a prompt appeal?

Firesuit · 17/01/2018 18:45

when there are no extra children born after 6 April 2017

BonnieF · 17/01/2018 18:45

I agree with his basic point, but he could have made that point in a less provocative way.

People should only have the number of children they can afford, whether they are employed or on benefits. The tax & benefits system should be structured to strongly disincentivise people from making irresponsible choices and expecting the taxpayer to pick up the tab. More children should not automatically mean more benefits.

BishopBrennansArse · 17/01/2018 18:46

@Puzzledandpissedoff hope so. Was very mentally trying.

BishopBrennansArse · 17/01/2018 18:48

@BonnieF I did that. As I've said earlier in the thread we had jobs when we had the kids. Yes we had a housing association house (which yes we moved as our family increased, paying full rent) but then disability called. We already had 3, can't put one back...

durgha · 17/01/2018 19:52

Ha. ha! OP. Haven't managed to rtft, but surely you're just flushing out mumsnet's swivel-eyed eugenicists?

BlurryFace · 17/01/2018 19:57

Most politicians I would trust as far as I could throw, I would certainly prefer to befriend one of those super common permanently unemployed people with 10 kids.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 17/01/2018 19:59

I’ve had a leaflet through my door today asking for my opinion on how he’s doing as my MP. Beautiful timing, I bet he’s really regretting that idea after the week he’s had Grin

BishopBrennansArse · 17/01/2018 20:22

@durgha swivel eyed 😂
Needed that

PidgeonSpray · 17/01/2018 20:29

I agree with him.

Not only in terms of what it costs tax payers but also the detrimental cost to the environment of 1st worlders having more than 2 kids. full stop.

(Not benefit bashing as some people genuinely need benefits for various reasons. He's not talking about those people )

Holliewantstobehot · 17/01/2018 21:07

Jealousy towards people on benefits baffles me. Living on benefits is shit. I was much better off when I was working.

DS has autism and severe anxiety. He can barely leave the house. I have to have my shopping delivered because I can't leave him for the amount of time it would take as he would have a panic attack.

He has been struggling for years although his situation has worsened in the last year. Because the waiting list for an autism assessment was two years I couldn't get DLA, as although you technically don't need a diagnosis I was lacking in any paperwork from professionals to bacome up my claim. I didn't appeal because a so-called friend

jarhead123 · 17/01/2018 21:18

I agree with him. People need to stop having kids they cant afford

Holliewantstobehot · 17/01/2018 21:18

Posted too soon.

....told me I was only doing it so I didn't have to work.

I went back to work and ended up contemplating suicide. I was failing at everything and was often going into work on two hours sleep.

I now livery on benefits but my life will be adversely affected for years to come. When DS is independent I will essentially be starting from scratch in the job market in my late forties. I will not have a decent pension. I will never own my own house. I know which life I would rather have had. But I love DS and he needs me so it is what it is.

Hollie, I have every sympathy for you, but it sounds like you've sorted things out for now. Best options chosen, given your current options. You're not having the world handed to you on a plate, but I'm sure you'll make the best of it. Frankly, if we weren't a shithole country, you wouldn't be needing a pension and a mortgage. You deserve a reasonable, state paid income and a decent house. A job even, if...heaven forfend...we might all get together and look after each other.x

BombsAway · 17/01/2018 22:46

He's barely even had a proper job so not in a position to comment, even more so 6 years ago.

The only saving grace of him being an mp is he was forced to resign as local councillor.

Jassmells · 17/01/2018 22:49

Well at least he suggested vasectomies and not sterilising women ;)
