If you're an unemployed waster then you should have a vasectomy!!!

Ben Bradley, an MP, wrote in a blogpost, 6 years ago, that the country would be soon “drowning in a vast sea of unemployed wasters” if workless families had four or five children while others limited themselves to one or two.
This is what he said:

''It’s horrendous that there are families out there that can make vastly more than the average wage, (or in some cases more than a bloody good wage) just because they have 10 kids. Sorry but how many children you have is a choice; if you can’t afford them, stop having them! Vasectomies are free.

There are hundreds of families in the UK who earn over £60,000 in benefits without lifting a finger because they have so many kids (and for the rest of us that’s a wage of over £90,000 before tax!).

People have to take responsibility for their own lives, and if they are struggling but working hard to help themselves then they should get help. But if they choose to have 10 kids they should take responsibility for that choice and look after them, not expect everyone else to foot the bill!

Families who have never worked a day in their lives having 4 or 5 kids and the rest of us having 1 or 2 means it’s not long before we’re drowning in a vast sea of unemployed wasters that we pay to keep!''

So What to do you think? Do you agree with Ben Bradley or do you think he is being unreasonable?

fbnick You are not dole scum. You are disabled. There is a huge difference between someone like you who can't work and someone who chooses not to work.

There is also a significant issue with the structure of our system. Living in America you pay your taxes according to household income and number of dependents both young and old. With both adult members of the household working they give $6k a year towards childcare, which I think is too low. The way it works is that a family making a household income of $50k or below is paying minimal taxes and in high cost areas will qualify for subsidized housing. The UK goes about this backwards by taxing everyone at the same rate and then giving money back to families depending on their income.

The whole system needs a complete overhaul with real thought given to how we as a society want to support the low income groups of able bodied workers, the disabled and the elderly. I don't think it's fair that low income groups are paying taxes only for it to be returned to them as benefits. I think if you let lower income people keep more of their pay it helps cut down on the need for payday loans and having to deal with the administrative nightmare that many go through trying to get benefits correct.

I also think that with Brexit it's going to really open up the job market for the lower income groups in our society and those who have chosen not to work are going to have a hard time justifying this. Before uncontrolled immigration from the EU I worked in what is now minimum wage jobs. I was making £20/hr at Pret making sandwiches in the morning for 15 hours a week (5am-8am Monday to Friday). I also think we will see wage rates rise at the bottom and no I don't think this is a bad thing. Just because you can pay NMW doesn't mean you should. I also think that those not working are going to be left behind and we run the risk of making the current underclass bigger and more cut off.

My question is, as dole scum, can I have another child? We'd love one of our own.

You're not dole scum. I would personally like to see the benefits system tightened against abuse so people like you could get more money.

Re another child. Well you'll have to make the same decision everybody else does, can you budget it in? That is not a question unique to people on benefits. You might like to ask yourself, why would it be okay for you to have a third child funded when someone else in your situation with a job couldn't afford it.

Fbnick · 23/01/2018 13:52

I used to have a highly paid job and worked hard. I have two degrees. Basically if I hadn't been beaten I'd still be working and could afford my third child. Based on the fact I'm not working now though no fault of my own I can't, so as not to be a financial burden we won't!

expatinscotland, you seem very angry, why?

One of my points was that a couple (who were not able to claim benefits, which her point quite clearly states) chose to have their unborn baby aborted. That must have been soul destroying.

It shouldn't matter whether someone has an 'asset' in a home. If they have hit hard times, they should be able to access financial help, to see them through those times.

I imagine most 'landlords' have worked very hard to get to the position that they are in. If they wish to stipulate (as harsh as it may be) who they do or do not want living in their property, then that it their absolute right. goes to line the pockets of their landlord,

Of course there has to be a clause in any rental agreement, which states how much notice needs to be given (by either party) to vacate the property.
4 months notice seems more than reasonable. Most rental agreements I've ever signed there has been 2months max notice. They are not enriching themselves on this.

Not 'everyone' can claim benefits, if you have earnt too much the year prior, in your previous employment.
