If you're an unemployed waster then you should have a vasectomy!!!

Ben Bradley, an MP, wrote in a blogpost, 6 years ago, that the country would be soon “drowning in a vast sea of unemployed wasters” if workless families had four or five children while others limited themselves to one or two.
This is what he said:

''It’s horrendous that there are families out there that can make vastly more than the average wage, (or in some cases more than a bloody good wage) just because they have 10 kids. Sorry but how many children you have is a choice; if you can’t afford them, stop having them! Vasectomies are free.

There are hundreds of families in the UK who earn over £60,000 in benefits without lifting a finger because they have so many kids (and for the rest of us that’s a wage of over £90,000 before tax!).

People have to take responsibility for their own lives, and if they are struggling but working hard to help themselves then they should get help. But if they choose to have 10 kids they should take responsibility for that choice and look after them, not expect everyone else to foot the bill!

Families who have never worked a day in their lives having 4 or 5 kids and the rest of us having 1 or 2 means it’s not long before we’re drowning in a vast sea of unemployed wasters that we pay to keep!''

So What to do you think? Do you agree with Ben Bradley or do you think he is being unreasonable?

And breed is meavt to read "a thread" Blush

Sephi1 · 21/01/2018 18:58

I know.

expatinscotland · 21/01/2018 19:00

'I think the only solution is for everyone to have fewer children - especially those who can’t afford them.'

But not people like you, of course. Smacks of 'Do what I say, not what I do.'

expatinscotland · 21/01/2018 19:02

You don't get increased tax credit for over 2 children unless your second 'child' is a multiple pregnancy or you were raped. That's been so for almost a year. And most councils don't have the stock to increase size of home once you're in social housing.

BitchQueen90 · 21/01/2018 19:03

Benefits affected by the cap are housing benefit, child tax credit and child benefit. Working tax credit isn't affected, therefore working is always beneficial.

I work PT and I am almost twice as better off financially than I was on unemployment benefits. I honestly don't know anyone who is better off on unemployment benefits than working.

Wellingtoncat · 21/01/2018 19:11

ExpatinScotland Eh? I said I couldn’t afford another and am not having another. I have two.

Wellingtoncat · 21/01/2018 19:20

Bertiesgal So what do you suggest? A massive sort of population ponzi scheme where we keep breeding at an unsustainable rate just to look after the older generation. That’s ridiculous. If the human race keeps breeding at this rate, it will be a catastrophe for this planet and the human race.

gluteustothemaximus · 21/01/2018 20:19

The welfare state is a big part of British family life, with 20.3 million families receiving some kind of benefit.

Out of these there are those that don't work at all (whether through disability/sickness or other reasons), when I looked this up there are 40,000 families that have 5 or more children and are out of work.

This is not ideal obviously. But, when you think about how many millions there are, just 40,000 families are 'abusing the system' (if you like) that's 0.2% of all families claiming benefits (any benefits).

So, wouldn't that suggest that people aren't desperately having more children just to get more money? Obviously some are.

But, given that there's a Daily Mail article every day on one of these families, it feels like the UK is overrun with large benefit scrounging families.

I do think that the benefits cap is a good idea to a certain extent - we cannot think it's right to have 10 children and not work. And to keep going, and not work.

However, I do worry about those who have more than 2 children and life is good - and then they fall on hard times - and can only get state help for 2 children - despite paying into the system for years.

Or those in abusive households where they have more than 2 children, and with the new rules, probably won't ever leave.

It's not easy. But perspective and facts are key.

Wellingtoncat · 21/01/2018 20:26

40,000 families that have 5 or more children and no one is the household works? Bloody hell that’s shocking and much worse than I thought.

And how many who have four children and no one is working? And how many have three and no one is working?

How can any of you think this is OK? It’s appalling.

Wellingtoncat · 21/01/2018 20:30

And here I am sticking with my two children and working 60 hours per week so I can try to give them a decent life, like some kind of mug. It makes my blood boil, honestly I am so angry.

bertiesgal · 21/01/2018 20:31

Wellington, what do you define as an unsustainable rate?

You have 2 children yourself. Is that an acceptable number?

I'm not suggesting that people breed like rabbits but I don't think it's unreasonable to want a family.

I do wish you'd address some of the points I've made though. You're very selective with your responses.

BitchQueen90 · 21/01/2018 20:35

Wellington stay at home then. Live on benefits. You'll see how shit it is then.

Bertiesgal The current world population of 7.3 million is predicted to be 11.2 million by 2100. I call that pretty un-fucking-sustainable. Jesus, I’m not even having this conversation. If you don’t think there is a problem with this then you are so deluded I don’t even know where to start.

Yes, two children is pretty OK I think, seeing as I can properly provide for them. I think you need to be earning a serious amount and be able to provide a really decent, stable family life to justify more than that to be honest.

bertiesgal · 21/01/2018 20:44

You are very angry Wellington.

Strikingly so.

Honestly, I say this from a place of decency and not to goad.

You need to figure out why you're so angry (it's not just people on benefits- you're projecting a lot of rage onto faceless people who have complex difficult lives).

Maybe you too have a complex difficult life. Please take some time to work through your anger.

Life is too short Brew

Wellingtoncat · 21/01/2018 20:44

Ivymaud I have a disabled child who will all in likelihood never work. Our household income is £300k per annum. I do not feel we can afford another child.

Wellingtoncat · 21/01/2018 20:46

Happy now? Why are you so nasty?

Wellingtoncat · 21/01/2018 20:47

Bertiesgal Don’t patronise me.

expatinscotland · 21/01/2018 20:50

You sound unhealthily angry. I have a dead child and a disabled child and just cannot imagine poor people making my blood boil because they had more kids than me while my precious tax money goes on bailing out banks who continue to fail and pay fat cats serious amounts of money, the 'royal' family continue to scrounge, the NHS goes to shit because it's being privatised when we're seeing what happens with privatising essential services with the Carillion fuckup.

And if you feel that life on benefits is so luxurious, there is nothing stopping you from jacking in your job and going on them yourself.

bertiesgal · 21/01/2018 20:56

Genuinely not meaning to patronise but I can see why it might come across like that.

Expat articulated better than I can how misdirected your rage is.

I hope that you find some peace Wellington, I really do Flowers

Wellingtoncat · 21/01/2018 20:57

Expat Where did I say living on benefits is luxurious? I have consistently said the opposite. I have no idea what your point is.

Wellingtoncat · 21/01/2018 21:00

Bertiesgal Why can’t you see that hardworking people struggling to provide for their family and having to have fewer children than they want would be angered by reading what Gluteus wrote above?
