Would you buy this for a man?

Birthday present but I’m worried it’s for women only...so it says on the Web. I don’t think it’s very girly but do you think it’s ok for a man?

Like a night in a lovely hotel or something.

LolitaLempicka · 16/01/2018 06:26

“Looks like something out of the Argos catalogue.”
^this. I don’t think it would look out of place on a man or a woman, but it is really not very nice. There are plenty of nicer (and cheaper) options. Put out a shout on style & beauty, I bet they can find you something.

Creambun2 · 16/01/2018 06:42

Tacky. Looks like an Elizabeth duke special.

EggsonHeads · 16/01/2018 06:44

No. The only jewellery a man should wear is a signet ring.

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 16/01/2018 07:00

Eggs

FFS. What era do you live in? Georgian?

Men can wear what they want.

It doesn't look particularly feminine to me, but I don't think I know any men who wear jewelry at all. Presumably the guy the OP is thinking of does wear jewelry and might look good with a medallion. Bit risky though as it's a bit of a statement piece. My mum keeps giving me and dd jewelry, I wish she wouldn't. It's sad being given gifts chosen with care that just aren't right at all, and hard to give them back to the giver.

HuskyMcClusky · 16/01/2018 07:13

I think any jewellery is an extremely risky choice, unless you know the recipient very very VERY well.

That probably goes double for a man.

icelollycraving · 16/01/2018 07:19

I don’t think it’s too feminine as such but I don’t know a man who would wear it.
Not my taste but only you know the taste of the person who you are considering buying it for.

StellaTins · 16/01/2018 07:24

No because I don't like the look of men who wear a yellow gold necklace and I'd be the one looking at it.

demirose87 · 16/01/2018 07:30

Jewellery is a very personal thing imo. I don't know any men who would wear this, but then they're not the type to wear jewellery. If he's into this type of thing, then go ahead and buy it, but if not then don't.

Firenight · 16/01/2018 07:32

If it’s his sort of thing. My husband doesn’t wear jewellery so I wouldn’t consider anything of the sort for him and it’s not my style at all.

GetShitDone · 16/01/2018 07:37

Although the piece isn't particularly feminine, the chain looks fine the only men I know that wear a chain choose one that has more substance to it.

Someoneasdumbasthis · 16/01/2018 07:39

I really do t like jewellery on men. And neither do the men I know. But if this chap does and you know he'd like it then that's your call. Personally I think it's bleurgh.

Winegumaddict · 16/01/2018 07:41

I'm afraid I wouldn't but I wouldn't buy it for a woman either it's not to my taste. Also it is very expensive for something which could be a bit of a 'marmite' present. It doesn't look like it is worth the price tag.

saltandvinegarcrisps1 · 16/01/2018 07:44

Love the fact the website is called Love Silver and its gold! Not my cup.of tea but you know your DP 's style. I don't think it's too "female"

Nocabbageinmyeye · 16/01/2018 07:47

Putting everything else a side, that is absolutely not worth that money. I personally think it's hideous and wouldn't wear it but that aside you can get nicer/smaller for the same thing, probably in Argos as was suggested above

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 16/01/2018 07:48

My DH wouldn’t wear it. I wouldn’t risk £200 on something non returnable. If you’re dead set on it I’d wrap up a picture of it and order after the birthday.

BertrandRussell · 16/01/2018 07:50

I honestly think if you have any doubts at all you shouldn't. It's very expensive and non returnable. I agree with the poster who suggested asking S&B to find you something.

WatchingFromTheWings · 16/01/2018 07:53

It's definitely a woman's necklace I'd say. Can't see any man wearing it.

ShiftyMcGifty · 16/01/2018 07:55

I think if you have to ask on the internet, you don’t know your recipient’s personal tastes well enough yourself to buy any jewellery!

ShatnersWig · 16/01/2018 07:57

I'm a man. I wouldn't. But then I don't wear any jewellery. Or even a watch. I can't think of any men I know who wear anything more than a ring.

Regardless of that, I wouldn't spend that sort of money on something like this unless I was 100% the recipient would like it. I assume this is for your husband or other half, OP? If so, then you ought to know precisely his taste in jewellery. The fact that you need to ask strangers for help would suggest you aren't sure - in which case, don't buy it.

Aeroflotgirl · 16/01/2018 08:17

It depends if he is into jewlery. If he does not wear it, I would not.

CurlsandCurves · 16/01/2018 08:17

My brother wears a silver pendant similar to that. Can’t remmber if it’s personalised, but I think his DW has one also, she doesn’t wear hers anymore.

If it’s his kind of thing and it would suit him, go for it. It suits my brother but by contrast I know my DH wouldn’t wear anything like that

Margomyhero · 16/01/2018 08:20

No.

I don't know any men who wear jewellery - other than a wedding ring and a watch.

I find necklaces on men a bit dated.
