To complain about pizza delivery?

Rockandrollwithit · 15/01/2018 18:09

So earlier I fell down the stairs. I looked after the DSs for the rest of the day - one is three and the other four months, so it was fully hands on. By the time DH came home I was very achy and bruised so he took over so I could have a lie down. We decided to make life easy for ourselves by ordering pizza for dinner.

When the pizza came, DH answered the door holding the baby. According to him, the delivery man told him to put the baby down.

DH put the baby in his pushchair bassinet, which we keep in the porch next to the door. The pizza man then said "That's not good enough is it? Where's your wife to hold the baby?"

AIBU to find this rude/judgy and possibly complain?

Sounds to me like something was lost in translation, so to speak. I wouldn't complain, no

Rockandrollwithit · 15/01/2018 18:14

DH is adamant that this is what happened exactly.

I agree with Ansum.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 15/01/2018 18:18

He said what? Confused

Soubriquet · 15/01/2018 18:20

Seriously?

That is bizarre. Would he have said that if you answered the door with baby in your arms?

RestingBitchFaced · 15/01/2018 18:22

Why did your DH listen to him?

Blackteadrinker77 · 15/01/2018 18:25

How did the delivery man know he had a wife?

MrTrebus · 15/01/2018 18:27

I assume there was a bit of a language barrier here somewhere. He probably didn't want to hand hot pizza to someone holding a baby but didn't word it very well. He's actually right sorry OP even though it was badly worded.

Rockandrollwithit · 15/01/2018 18:27

@Restingbitchface
DH is one of those people who hates conflict of any kind.

@Blackteadrinker
He didn't, I guess he presumed he had a wife because he had a baby??

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 15/01/2018 18:28

It sounds complicated. How was the pizza?

Rockandrollwithit · 15/01/2018 18:28

@Mrtrebus
Pizza man had accent local to the area, no language barrier.

ShatnersBassoon · 15/01/2018 18:29

It sounds like the delivery man was, correctly, trying to be careful but got a bit jumbled with what he was saying.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 15/01/2018 18:30

The drama in some people's lives never ceases to amaze me. Forget about it, op. It was nothing to begin with.

MrTrebus · 15/01/2018 18:31

Ah well he was right even if he said it all the wrong way! Anyway fuck it pizza is amazing,a pizza delivery man could say anything to me and it would go right over my head because I just want that gorgeous cheesy feast in my belly.

nutnerk · 15/01/2018 18:32

I don't think it's worth complaining to his employer about.

Bit presumptuous to assume he was married, but honestly where else would a baby come from? Assuming you have a family sized house, so he put 2+2 together.

WorraLiberty · 15/01/2018 18:32

Oh for goodness sake

If your DH didn't say anything at the time, don't start complaining now.

Nicknacky · 15/01/2018 18:33

I'm wondering why you would answer the door when you know it would be good delivery? Especially the size of a pizza box.

I agree with lost in translation.

RitaMills · 15/01/2018 18:33

I love when people on MN feel the need to go into the backstory to justify why they’re having fast food. Always happens with Pizza or McDonalds. Grin

WorraLiberty · 15/01/2018 18:34

Me too Rita Grin

I thought the whole falling down stairs thing was going to be at least a tiny bit relevant to the story.

ThisLittleKitty · 15/01/2018 18:35

Oh gosh get over it!! I've had much worse delivery drivers than that! One demanded I gave him an extra £2 for coming "all the way up the stairs" I live on the 3rd floor with no lift, I didn't have change as my order came to £10 and I had a £10 note. He told me I should give it to him next time. I didn't order from there again. Even then I didn't complain!

RitaMills · 15/01/2018 18:36

Me too, considering that paragraph is bigger than the actual AIBU. Confused

EB123 · 15/01/2018 18:37

Yeah i wouldn't worry about it, Enjoy your pizza.

Snowdrop18 · 15/01/2018 18:43

did he say it in a jokey way? I mean, hugely stupid, but perhaps that's what happened, it just "came out" after a long day or something.

I had a bizarre experience with a courier the other day, he rang up to say he'd be 10 minutes - no idea why he needed to call - and he sounded very confused. So I said "do you know where to park?" because that's the question they usually have.

he absolutely went off one on about how he'd lived in the area all his life and was just calling to be polite and make sure I was in.

then when he got here he said "sorry, shit day" and all was forgotten.

Snowdrop18 · 15/01/2018 18:44

sorry, should I have said - I hope you're okay after your fall.

see, now I've made a plum of myself! Don't complain about the guy. hope you feel better Flowers

Amanduh · 15/01/2018 19:02

The way he said it just wouldn’t even make sense, the ordering of words..
But anyway, what are you going to complain about? The pizza man asked my husband where he wife was to hold the baby... and?
