Neighbours daily motorbike ritual

Every morning. At 10.30, give or take, our neighbour 4 doors down, starts the engine of his quite loud motorbike (I dont know the make), then leaves it to run for about 5 minutes before roaring off down the road.
He (it is a He I have checked), roars back later in the afternoon, about 4. He then does the same turning on, leaving to idle outside the house for 5 mins, then roars off.
He does this every, bloody day. The engine on the bike is loud and vibrating and it creates a heady thrum in the house. The delibrate polluting is getting on my nerves too.
Other neighbours have commented but as yet I haven't gone and said anything as I think I might be being a cranky old cow.Are there grounds for me to approach and ask politely for them to stop doing this" It has been going on for about 4 months now. Bored of it.
Added to which, there is the risk of the thing being knicked as it is left running unattended outside the house.
It is obviously his pride and joy but the shine has defintely gone off it for me.

At least it's not 4.30 am, 6 days a week and again at midnight for five nights like the twat across the road 😡

lolaflores · 17/01/2018 18:55

Tiddlywinks63 can I interest you in some lovely net curtains that Sparklingbrook has sourced for me for my bike loving twat up the road? And I do like the little side table. I could smash it into little pieces and jam them into my ear drums as a second thought.

2002 R1 5PW owner here. Delkevic exhaust - baffle out. Beautiful sound when started up. Takes about 2 minutes to warm up.

Personally though, who cares. At least he is working.

lolaflores · 17/01/2018 19:18

pulling oh he is quite the busy bee and I do admire him for that. I don't hate him as such. Although I amn't his biggest fan in terms of bike maintenance, I take my hat off to his work ethic. Well, he would want to have one if he wants to run a motorbike.

I've ridden bikes for more than 40 years, and running any petrol engine with the choke out/enriched fuel mixture is neither necessary or good for the engine as it washes the oil off the bores, reducing the lubrication to the engine. There are 125 bikes near me with aftermarket exhausts which are louder than my 1000cc with an akropovic can. Although, when I was a youngster on an old British bike, I'm sure I made way too much noise, and left oil wherever I stopped

lolaflores · 17/01/2018 19:26

Onesmallstepforaman I think his age is a huge factor in all the theatrics around this and I am inclined to this because that age is all about look at me. And that is all fab, but please it is frickin annoying all the same and thats not an outrageous thing to say.

No, Lola its not. If he's leaving it unattended whilst running it may be illegal.

MrTrebus · 17/01/2018 20:13

I'm here! Ok OP now YANBU at all, get over there and tell him at 5.30am that it is unacceptable to let it idle, please can he walk it down the road and idle it elsewhere if he really needs to OR just drive off. Much love n hugs to you Flowers

Tiddlywinks63 · 17/01/2018 21:31

Twat over the road leaves it idling for a minimum of 15 minutes (and thanks for the offer of net curtains but a scud missile would be preferable!)
With a bit of bloody luck it'll blow up soon ☹️

pullingmyhairout1 · 18/01/2018 10:00

I love the sound of a nice exhaust car or motorbike but 15 minutes would piss me off. The dogs would go nuts

derangedmermaid · 18/01/2018 10:20

 hi @lolaflores why thank you.

I also have an arch nemesis down our road who drives a pimped out Ford Fiesta (lol) and drives around late at night pumping out horrendous booming music.

There is no way he can be enjoying that level of noise and he always has the window cracked so we can all enjoy it... Hmm

Vitalogy · 18/01/2018 17:37

There is no way he can be enjoying that level of noise and he always has the window cracked so we can all enjoy it. I don't get it either, we're on a main road and when these cars with the low base go past, it hurts my ears and I'm indoors, surely they're damaging their ears.
