English vs Welsh education

I have put this in education but am posting here for traffic. Hubby says it is U to not move for fear that the schooling is not so great and that I have no evidence of this...

We are considering moving to Swansea. My children are currently in Ofsted outstanding schools in England, yr 5 and yr 7. The school in wales that we would send them to is Estyn Excellent. However, I am told the education in Wales is not as good as England and that the children will leave school with a sub standard education. Is there any truth to this? Does anyone have any evidence either way that can help me make this tough decision? Tia.

Temporary, I was at Tycoch at the same time as you I think, but doing A levels. :)
My friend did the IB, they were a very small group.

Back to the OP, Bishopston and Olchfa are both excellent schools. That said, there have been problems with bullying, drugs etc. but tbh, I think that is all schools, both sides of the Severn Crossing (which will be free soon-yay!).

Ah yes, the view of the Bay does it for me every day. We are so very lucky.

I very nearly did the IB at Tycoch but chose A Levels instead...do they still do IB? When I was there they were pushing it very hard and struggling for take up I think.

I've hears that all you learn in Welsh schools is close harmony singing and rugby. Plus a bit of coal mining, but that is less useful nowadays

Pidlan · 13/01/2018 22:38

Thanks for explaining to me about the prejudices people have about my own country, Draylon - I'm sure I should have been less "chippy" about it, and just accepted that prejudice in good spirit.

MrSlant · 13/01/2018 22:45

Doris everyone here can sing in harmony from the moment they are born this may actually be true they don't need lessons!

DorisDangleberry · 13/01/2018 22:53

MrSlant and the rugby?

OP you’d be moving to a brilliant City with a great quality of life. Your children would do well at either of those schools but more importantly they will flourish on the lifestyle here. But let’s continue to allow others to think it’s a bit shit, we don’t want it getting too busy Grin

NetflixNN · 13/01/2018 23:06

They've all been getting 3 hours practice a day in by the time they start education of course Doris. Plus the compulsory communal viewing of matches that starts at 3-9 months depending on which part of the season they are born into.

Sorry, I hope no one feels I'm taking the piss. It's just with three first language Welsh DC there is always going to be a little bit of truth behind the stereotypes. Mil and I bonded by getting quite pissed watching an England-Wales match which is of course the most important day of the year in our culture Grin.
