I say red, DP said rose and I just had to retrieve it from the fridge!

dementedpixie · 12/01/2018 20:00

Dh drinks it and it's red. I drink pinot grigio which is white

Poshindevon · 12/01/2018 20:00

Pinot Noir is definitely a red wine. You winWine

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 12/01/2018 20:00

It's red.

confusedlittleone · 12/01/2018 20:01

I think technically it is a rose but I always call it a red

Horses4 · 12/01/2018 20:01

Red. It’s a red grape.

Fekko · 12/01/2018 20:01

Open it and drink some (in the interests of science).

NoSquirrels · 12/01/2018 20:02

It’s usually red - but you can get a rose Pinot Noir. I had one over Christmas from Lidl, and it was very nice. Check the bottle!

Beaujolais is also red but can be served (& is nice) chilled.

helpfulperson · 12/01/2018 20:02

It can be rose or white so you need to check the bottle.

Littlebelina · 12/01/2018 20:02

It is a red grape but can be used to make champagne as well as red wine.

arethereanyleftatall · 12/01/2018 20:02

Pinot noir grapes can be used to make either.
Usually it's red.
Though Pinot noir grapes are also used in some rose champagnes.

StandardRussian66 · 12/01/2018 20:02

I know you can get a merlot rose so might also get a Pinot noir rose.

SinglePringle · 12/01/2018 20:03

It can be either.

kaytee87 · 12/01/2018 20:03

Depends what one you buy...

frieda909 · 12/01/2018 20:04

Slightly off topic but this reminds me of when I worked in a pub and my colleague would always correct anyone who asked for a bottle of our rosé as ‘technically it’s a White Zinfandel not a rosé’.

It was a shitty student pub full of Freshers. Absolutely nobody cared.

She was a bit of a twat.

Littlebelina · 12/01/2018 20:04

Unless it is a champagne it is typically red though so you are almost certainly right!

Littlebelina · 12/01/2018 20:06

White zinf is a rose though isn't it? As opposed to red zinf

CurlyRover · 12/01/2018 20:10

It's definitely not champagne. We won it in a raffle so I don't know where they got it from and the bottle just says red grape. But it definitely looks and tastes like red wine to me. He's even gone so far as to have it in a white wine glass...

I thought white zinf was a rose? I've always bought it as a rose.

You can make pink PN. More often it's red. If it was red, in the fridge, you'll be masking all the lovely aromas and much of the flavour. But nobby yaya. Wine. Friday. Job done.

frieda909 · 12/01/2018 20:12

I have no idea to be honest! She was very insistent that they weren’t the same thing. I always just assumed that anyone asking for a rosé in a student pub wanted some kind of pink wine and didn’t particularly want to get into a debate about all the different types of grape Hmm

Jeanvaljean27 · 12/01/2018 20:14

You are both right. Pinot noir is a red grape, used to make both red wines and rosé wines. The rosé wines are lighter in colour because of the different method used in making those wines.

Buxbaum · 12/01/2018 20:18

I dimly recall learning on a vineyard tour in Napa that White Zinfandel is technically a ‘blush’ rather than a rosé. I can’t remember the explanation why, though...

helpfulperson · 12/01/2018 20:26

If you've poured it out and you can't see through it it's red!

Horses4 · 12/01/2018 20:26

Rose is made from red grapes with less contact time with the grape skin. Champagne is made using grapes including Pinot noir. Pinot noir can be rose. Basically, opening and drinking is the way forward Wine
