For me to not trim the stem on my moon cup?

Elephant17 · 10/01/2018 23:10

Never used one before, thought I'd give it a dry run (so to speak) to get the hang of it a bit before period actually starts...

I can feel the stem but it's not painful, I think I would get used to the sensation of it being there. I find it difficult to take out even with the stem intact, I don't know how I'd do it without?? I don't like the thought of squatting down in a public toilet.... but will leaving it make the cup dislodge and more prone to leaking?

Does anyone know if there's a reason, other than for comfort, that the stem mustn't extend out of the vagina??

I keep mine on tbh, otherwise I wouldn’t get it out without a big mess

jigsawpiece · 10/01/2018 23:18

As far as I know it's for comfort reasons... some trim them, others prefer not to. I've never trimmed mine. I can't really feel it once it's in.

DarthLipgloss · 10/01/2018 23:20

I have completely got rid of my stem and smoothed off the ridges. don't have any problems getting it out.

Elephant17 · 10/01/2018 23:34

Have just realise 'iabu for me to not trim the stem of my moon cup' does not make sense!

Ok so it's just a comfort thing?

I find it hard to put in as well as take out. My fanjo is still sore from childbirth over a year ago! The scar tissue where the stitches were is tender, so I find putting it in and fiddling around trying to reach the base to pull it out quite difficult and painful.

I'm hoping to get used to it with time!

Darth do you push down or just reach up to get it out? Maybe I'm putting it too high...

I have never trimmed the stem on mine. Have had 2 diff brands, not actual mooncup brand. I bear down to get it out, and since having a rather messy spill (thank goodness in my own bathroom), I now usually only change it in the shower. I love it. Has changed my periods forever!

DarthLipgloss · 10/01/2018 23:46

I sort of bear down a bit and grab the bottom of it. It did take me a while to get used to it but I always felt I could feel the stem even if it was short.

GetShitDone · 10/01/2018 23:48

I had to trim the stem because it was painful. Getting it out is no problem, you may well have it too high.

sparklesbarkles · 10/01/2018 23:50

Trimmed mine when I had one. Now I have a diva cup which doesn't really have one. I find it sits lower than tampons so it's not really an issue. If it is higher up then I just bear down a bit and it comes down if that makes sense

Ladiva1971 · 10/01/2018 23:56

Just googled this and found it gross?? I don't know why, but why would anyone use this? Not judging anybody here just asking why?

Elephant17 · 10/01/2018 23:56

But when I had it lower I could really feel the cup.. I seem to find it difficult to put my fingers up there even just the entrance, as that's where it's tender. I tried the putting my finger around the cup to break the suction as it suggests and found it really uncomfortable. Gutted that giving birth has ruined my woman parts Sad

One more thing, is it essential to break the suction before trying to pull it out or is it ok to break the suction by pulling it out? I couldn't quite work that out from the instructions

OP posts:
Gwenhwyfar · 10/01/2018 23:58

This is why I can't use mine. The stem is uncomfortable when I'm lying down, but I need it to take the cup out. Even with the stem, it can take me 5 minutes to get it out.

GetShitDone · 11/01/2018 00:00

Ladiva

Its cheap, it's easy, it's less fuss, it's cleaner, it's more eco-friendly, it reduces cramps, it's comfortable and I can nearly forget I'm on my period, which never happens with other San pro.

Maelstrop · 11/01/2018 00:00

Just googled this and found it gross?? I don't know why, but why would anyone use this? Not judging anybody here just asking why?

Oh lord, maybe because it’s better than shoving endless san pro into landfill? Maybe because it’s the mumsnet way? Are you new, dear?

Elephant17 · 11/01/2018 00:00

Ladiva1971 it's much more environmentally friendly, saves a great deal of money in the long run, means you don't have to worry about restocking or running out or using the disgusting sanitary bins in public toilets, it holds more than a tampon and can be left in for 4-8 hours, don't have to worry about changing tampons with all the wrappers and wrapping in toilet roll etc.

I think the thing people find gross is the reusable aspect. But if it wasn't hygienic and safe, it wouldn't be on the market.

It's only blood and you can clean it with soap and water each time you empty it when you're at home and sterilise between periods.

Tampons and sanitary towels are really quite a lot grosser, when you think about it.

OP posts:
Ladiva1971 · 11/01/2018 00:10

I am not new here but I cannot use tampons or insert any foreign body down there as my body rejects it and pushes it out

Ladiva1971 · 11/01/2018 00:12

so unfortunately I have to use towels

ALLIS0N · 11/01/2018 00:12

Ladiva1971 - if you think that’s gross I need to warn you - some women actually let a man put his penis inside them and ejaculate. Not just their own body fluids but someone else’s !!!

Freaky

dinosaurkisses · 11/01/2018 00:12

Oooooh a Mooncup thread!

Has anyone had to size up? I've been using the smaller size for years, but when I used it for the first time since having DD 12 weeks ago it was really uncomfortable and just wouldn't sit right. Has my fanjo irreversibly changed and do I have to spend another £20 on the next size?

Ladiva1971 · 11/01/2018 00:14

ALLISON I do have 4 children

ClosdesMouches · 11/01/2018 00:15

Not judging anybody here just asking why?

Gross?
You absolutely are judging. My three ‘whys’ : cheaper, less period pain than with a t ampon, more environmentally friendly.
I pity women who hate their own body and its natural functions.

paranoidpammywhammy2 · 11/01/2018 00:17

I have a little ring on mine which helps get it out. Me Luna ones are very good. Look on ebay. Loads of sizes, stems, colours and softer ones which are comfier.

Ladiva1971 · 11/01/2018 00:18

My point is I CANNOT wear tampons and after looking at the mooncup I cannot use it either but I can see where people are coming from, it's just something I had never heard of and was curious about it

ClosdesMouches · 11/01/2018 00:19

Ladiva, if you can’t “insert any foreign body” into your vagina how do you cope with cock? Hmm
