Ikea ad campaign: piss on a magazine

QuizteamBleakley · 10/01/2018 18:37

Sorry, slightly clickbaity, but I wanted to share a recent Ikea campaign and see where the MN majority feel this falls. DH and I are polar opposites on this; one of us thinks "An ad that's going to increase sales" while the other thinks "horrible, crass and distasteful."
What sayeth you?

Do you have to hand the soggy leaflet into the staff Shock

Xmaspuddingdisaster · 10/01/2018 19:24

I’d pee on it. You can never have too many pg tests.

FreddieClaryHorshieLion · 10/01/2018 19:25

Weird and hilarious 😂

Poor employees? How would they check whether the pee was from the right person/the buyer?

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 10/01/2018 19:26

God, that is weird! Is it an actual pregnancy test?

StereophonicallyChallenged · 10/01/2018 19:29

I think its a very clever piece of marketing Grin

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 10/01/2018 19:31

It's cheaper than an ordinary pregnancy test! Xmas Grin

JuniUmiZoomi · 10/01/2018 19:32

Sounds messy to me. And don't the wee tests stop working after a certain point in pregnancy? I can't figure out if you're supposed to take it in? Not nice for the staff.

WarwickDavisAsPlates · 10/01/2018 19:33

I actually think that's really smart advertising. It's not gross, it would be if it was a picture of a baby or something but it's just a crib.

MakeMisogynyAHateCrime · 10/01/2018 19:34

Scribblegirl

“Also if you're newly pregnant and think pissing on a leaflet is 'hugely distasteful' you're in for a whole world of gross when you get to the birth. And child rearing for that grin”

I have have birthed multiple children and dealt with the human body at work on a daily basis for a number of years and still find it distasteful.

kateandme · 10/01/2018 19:35

is there any chance of it going wrong that would be my worry.so people desperate for children might be told they are when its a botched copy. or vice versa

SoupDragon · 10/01/2018 19:36

Rather dismissive of people who adopt as well as being horribly distasteful.

No more so than a pregnancy test.

kateandme · 10/01/2018 19:37

you could be desperate, taken the normal test and it says positive then you do this and what if it doesn't light up,it could cause panic to a few vunerable people. but this is just me looking from worrywarts point of view.

confusedlittleone · 10/01/2018 19:37

@kateandme id be a little concerned at anyone relying on a leaflet to tell them if they're pregnant or not

AHobbyaweek · 10/01/2018 19:40

I love that idea. Really innovative (caveat I'm in marketing)

MakeMisogynyAHateCrime · 10/01/2018 19:42

SoupDragon is there a way for parents of non conventional routes to get the discount? Not being goady btw.

BertieBotts · 10/01/2018 19:43

Grin I want one! I'd pee on it.

Of course nobody would use this in place of a real pregnancy test!

BertieBotts · 10/01/2018 19:43

Yes, join the Ikea Family club.

Coconutspongexo · 10/01/2018 19:43

I really want to know if it actually works!

FlaviaAlbia · 10/01/2018 19:45

My first thought was "ooh discount"

My second was "ugh, soggy pee coupon"

Celticlassie · 10/01/2018 19:48

As a PP said, I thought that after about the 14th week pregnancy tests stopped showing as positive? So unless you're buying a pram very, very early...

TatianaLarina · 10/01/2018 19:49

Bizarre.

kateandme · 10/01/2018 19:52

confusedlittleone I did say youd already taken normal test.

  • I don't think they sell prams
  • You're all talking about it, so the advertising is working...
ALunerExplorer · 10/01/2018 20:25

Well, I don't know - pregnancy tests cost money.

This is a free leaflet, yes?

Any chance they could deliver them in bulk? Grin
