To be so shocked...

First post so here goes....At school pick up today, DS2 in Yr2, one of the other mums who I’ve known for a few years has a DD who started pre-school on Monday. This is the pre-school our DS’s attended and is rated outstanding. She was complaining that there is now a man in his 50’s working there this term and she feels really uncomfortable about it. I was so shocked I didn’t really say anything although one of the other mums mentioned how we expect equal pay, equal rights etc but can still complain about this sort of thing. The mum in question did say she was aware she belonged in the 1950’s but she was going to complain regardless. I’m just sick to my stomach that somebody could still think like this. I’m also cross I didn’t say anything and just walked away!

We need more males in junior / infants / nursery settings!

So many kids have little to do with their fathers and need a decent role model.

I have she gets a short answer from the head

SleepingStandingUp · 10/01/2018 17:23

Yanbu if tou were shocked that she was horrified. However attitudes like this do need challenging.

InsomniacAnonymous · 10/01/2018 17:24

What on earth is she going to say in her complaint?

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 10/01/2018 17:24

Wtaf? Yanbu. She sounds dreadful.

thefirstmrsrochester · 10/01/2018 17:26

I’d love to be a fly on the wall when she complains. God, what an attitude. I’d be rendered speechless too, at the narrow mindedness, if anyone I knew came away with this.

SleepingStandingUp · 10/01/2018 17:27

"DEAR NURSERY.

I would like to alert you to the fact that you appear to have recruited a man. As you know, they cannot be trusted around children. Women are virtuous and pure so they are fine. Any man who ever looks at a child for more then 3 seconds must be a pervert. I have copied this letter to the police who promised to be there soon to take away the crazy person. I shall await them"

InsomniacAnonymous · 10/01/2018 17:29

Tell the woman about Vanessa George.

MavisPike · 10/01/2018 17:29

she's complaining just because he's a man ?
I hope they ask her what she suggests they do about it

LEMtheoriginal · 10/01/2018 17:29

My DD'S key worker at nursery was a man - she loved him to bits. She also had lots of male teachers through primary school and thought they were great too. I'd be more concerned if there were no male teachers at primary school tbh.

kaytee87 · 10/01/2018 17:32

She's going to make a total fool of herself making that complaint. What a tit.

GrooovyLass · 10/01/2018 17:35

As a PP said it's good if there are men working in nurseries/primary schools. Kids need male role models in settings like that. What a terrible way to live, being paranoid that every single man is a paedophile just because he's a man.

chickenowner · 10/01/2018 17:35

She's going to complain??

I would love to be a fly on the wall for that conversation!

brizzledrizzle · 10/01/2018 17:37

Crazy woman! I'd be delighted that there are some great male role models there for the children.

lostincumbria · 10/01/2018 17:38

Absolutely agree we need more male teachers in Y0-Y6.

Mrsmadevans · 10/01/2018 17:38

They have the outstanding award for a good reason they are forward thinking and employing a man in this role is an excellent idea , well done on them!

DrRanjsRightEyebrow · 10/01/2018 17:38

how utterly bizarre. She's going to look like such a tit when she complains! There's equal male keyworkers to female at DS's pre-school and it's fabulous. Our third primary on our list for September is one I'm worried about as there are no male teachers (not hugely worried of course but it would be nice to have some male role models for DS and him to see males in 'nurturing' professions as a matter of course)

yorkshireyummymummy · 10/01/2018 17:40

God almighty.
And I thought i was a bit out of time.

Jozxyqk · 10/01/2018 17:41

So... does she think that all male teachers are paedophiles, or does she think that women should confine themselves to employment as secretaries, cleaning, teaching, & nursing - until they're married that is.

Please ask her what the outcome of her complaint is, & give us an update! I'm dying to know how she responds when the head informs her what year it is...

WorraLiberty · 10/01/2018 17:41

I don't believe the bit about complaining at all.

SleepingStandingUp · 10/01/2018 17:49

I'm really sad the lone male worker at DS's nursery left

TheGirlWithAllTheFeathers · 10/01/2018 17:54

My dad was a primary school teacher in his 40's. He thought it was really important that men were involved in teaching youngsters because boys needed to see a man being involved with children and know it was a great job to aim for.

Anasnake · 10/01/2018 17:55

What a twat

Jassylaunderette · 10/01/2018 17:56

Complaining? I can't see why somebody would make a fool of themselves, there are no grounds for complaint...

mustbemad17 · 10/01/2018 17:58

DD's new headteacher is male & i am so chuffed he takes an active role with the classes. Primary & early years settings definitely need more males!!!
So intrigued what she is going to complain about without looking utterly ridiculous (and discriminatory)

PanPanPanPing · 10/01/2018 17:58

She sounds bonkers. And what makes her think that there were no male teachers in the 1950s? Actually, there were probably more male teachers in the 50s than there are now. I was educated during the 60s and 70s and recall there were male teachers in my various schools.

As far as I'm aware, neither of my parents had the screaming abdabs because some of my teachers were men - in fact, I doubt they cared one way or the other as long as I learned something!
