5yo Eating baby food

OK, not that dramatic but it means you opened the thread.

Even as a baby DD didn't have actual baby food.

But I do still by the pouches that are just fruit, find them great to keep in the car as a quick snack. Don't worry she still has 5 fresh fruit/veg a day.

Is it weird though?

So it is just pureed fruit? In my mind it’s no different to a smoothie or milkshake. Although could just give her an actual piece of fruit instead

I thought you were going to say you only feed your 5 year old jars of baby food or something

InDubiousBattle · 10/01/2018 14:13

A bit odd but I don't suppose it's doing them any harm. My two are 2.5 and 4 and they just have normal fruit and have for a really long time. I only ever used to use the fruit pouches to make weetabix taste of something!

Fruitbat1980 · 10/01/2018 14:15

I buy them to put in prosecco. And gin. For cocktails. I am 37. YANBU.

overmydeadbody · 10/01/2018 14:15

Really?!

What's weird? That it's marketed to babies?

My teens love a good smoothie, they put them in pouches (reusable) for school.

Really not something to think about.

JenniferL90 · 10/01/2018 14:16

Oh she eats tons of fruit most days. But I realised unpacking the shopping last night (had thrown in 2 pouches out of habit and tend to keep one in my bag) that maybe I need to stop getting them.

I'd rather one of those sat in my bag for a month than a banana though......

In Prosecco you say.......

It is a bit odd for a 5 year old tbh. Does a 5 year old really need a snack that much that they need a pouch of puréed fruit? Hmm

Christmasaurus · 10/01/2018 14:19

I still get them for my 6 year old to have occasionally. It’s got to be better than a packet of crisps or a bar of chocolate!

KatyN · 10/01/2018 14:24

My 6 year old has a fruit pots that come in yoghurt pots. I can’t see us stopping buying them for many many years. Nothing odd at all.

Starlight2345 · 10/01/2018 14:27

I would think a pouch of pureed fruit is better than lots of snacks.. Far worse to worry about.

EggsonHeads · 10/01/2018 14:29

No, I eat them myself. Not particularly healthy though so I try not to do it too often. But the Piccolo Cherry ones are to die for!

Nomad86 · 10/01/2018 14:30

They taste great on cheesecake.

Lukeandlorelai4Ever · 10/01/2018 14:31

I never gave them to dd as a baby but when she turned about 3 she started asking for them if she saw them! She gets one every few weeks when we shop as a "treat"!
She's nearly 5

glueandstick · 10/01/2018 14:32

Del Monte do purée fruit pouches clearly aimed at the bigger than baby stage. Can’t see how it’s different.

DrMarthaJones · 10/01/2018 14:32

It's not really baby food. It's just fruit, its no different from giving them a smoothie.

Afreshnewyearplease · 10/01/2018 14:34

A relative of mine used to send their dc to school with a jar of baby food in a thermos tub for lunch

HopefulForToday · 10/01/2018 14:35

Personally I find it a bit odd...why not just give them an apple?

MrsJayy · 10/01/2018 14:38

I don't think that is any different than those frube yoghurts I guess if she likes them and you are not setting the highchair up so she can eat it Grin then crack on

IHaveBrilloHair · 10/01/2018 14:40

It's fine, I love munch bunch y oghurts and buy them for myself

IHaveBrilloHair · 10/01/2018 14:41

I don't eat them in an adult sized highchairGrin

MrsJayy · 10/01/2018 14:45

Ha Grin

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/01/2018 14:50

In France you can buy puréed fruit and this is aimed at any age group either in individual yoghurt pots or big glass jars. Nothing wrong with this at all.

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 10/01/2018 14:50

My friend does that OP and I do think it odd and indulgent. It's not particularly good for teeth either.

Alannahpickaver · 10/01/2018 14:53

I used to buy them for my daughter too at 5 years old, she is now 7 years old and she eats her 8 month old brothers.
I am of the same opinion it is no different to a smoothie.

squeaver · 10/01/2018 14:54

My 13 year old still eats the little pots of Petit Filou. Won't contemplate eating the bigger pots.

Children are weird.
