To still be quietly fuming when a woman assumes my dd's chocolate bar is her dinner in sainsburys??

I went to Sainsburys today to do my shopping, my dd has a bar of their chocoalte as its the only free from chocolate she can eat due to her allergies. We were in the car park putting our shopping in the boot when a woman walks past and says to my dd? 'Is that your dinner' she walked off before I had chance to answer her, I am still cross with this woman, should I just laugh it off? She was not joking either!

My dd only has one bar of chocolate a week, I dont allow sweets or chocolate normally.

Why worry?

You have no need to justify yourself to strangers. You know the truth, sod anyone else.

Dottydot · 25/04/2007 21:16

Agree with Lizzylou - don't even think about it - not worth the effort of quietly fuming!

Hillls · 25/04/2007 21:16

Thanks Lizzylou, I know but it has made my blood boil, I cook every meal from scratch, blinking hard work, chocolate for dinner indeed

I think you should laugh it of. I ver much doubt that she actually thought it was your dds dinner. She was probably just making 'chit chat'

Rather like the way I'll ask small children 'Is that your doggie' about a soft toy. I don't actually think it is a dog, i'm just pasing the time

and anyway who cares what a stranger says. you know the reality of the situation. Life is too short to get wound up about stuff like this.

colditz · 25/04/2007 21:17

She was probably having a joke with your daughter, I think you are over reacting tbh.

newlifenewname · 25/04/2007 21:18

Sounds like you have more issues around chocolate eating than the woman tbh.

Give yourself a break - she could have chocolate every day and it would be ok!

mummytosteven · 25/04/2007 21:18

it was probably just a bad joke, and if not then she is a bit nuts. either way, no need for you to take it personally.

2shoes · 25/04/2007 21:18

i think she was joking

oh come on

she was probably being friendly

this is just the sort of thing I would say and I judge no-one

Blandmum · 25/04/2007 21:21

hatrick , quick aside, you'd better stop that, and I'll stop the dog thing ok?

Hillls · 25/04/2007 21:21

No I have no issue with the chocolate other than it being a nonsense food, my dd is very highly strung, give her sugar and she will be bouncing off the walls for hours.

The woman didn't say it in a chit chat tone, it came accross very judgemental thats why It got my back up, normally I would just brush it off but it really made me cross

Hmm over reacting IMO.

I was giving ds a bit of a talking to outside Wilkos today as he was generally being a little sod, and some old woman said 'you want to give him a good hard smack'.

dd2 was having a strop the other day and some old dear said "I know what she needs!!!"

I thought after that I should have said "YES. AN OFF BUTTON!!!!!!"

PrincessPeaHead · 25/04/2007 21:27

Hillls you really need to lighten up
grow a sense of humour

And why do you give a shit what some random stranger thinks or doesn't think of you? What does it matter? Why should it bother you for more than ooooh about 1 second?

Hillls · 25/04/2007 21:30

Princess I do have a sense of humour, It just made me cross, the situation came accross all wrong, not jokingly just very judgemental. I dont care what people think but she really made me feel crap.

Ah but PPH you could franchise your confidence!
But yes, she's a silly old boot who doesn't deserve a millisecond of your time.
A tip: if you want people to coo over your child in a most gratifying manner, let them go out in fancy dress. DD went to school pick up as a dalmation yesterday and spent the whole of today in a fairy costume. She was a complete showstopper both times. It was like walking down the street with Marilyn Monroe in terms of attention, but much nicer, of course.

PrincessPeaHead · 25/04/2007 21:33

a dalmation! ahhhhhhhhhh that must have been SO sweet

Lizzer · 25/04/2007 21:34

Fume away - I hate stupid comments like that

Aloha · 25/04/2007 21:35

The dalmation was unbelievably cute. Even ds's classmates were congratulating him on his sister's costume
I'll email you a picture to prove it!

Porcupine · 25/04/2007 21:35

oh go get over it you lily livered owman

Hillls · 25/04/2007 21:39

Cheers Cod
