My grandad used to make me the best porridge growing up.

I can never get it creamy enough.

Help me out 😭

Following as i too would like to know this.

isseywithcats · 08/01/2018 20:32

to each cup of oats add one cup water and one cup milk in a pan, bring to the boil and immedietly turn down to simmer stirring frequently till the porridge thickens and tastes cooked, about 5-10 minutes, then into bowls and add what you like on yours, wether its fruit, honey, sugar and cold milk

Miscella · 08/01/2018 21:01

I use milk for porridge, no water.

I find soaking the oats in the milk overnight before cooking makes the nicest, creamiest porridge.

TenancyTroublesAgain · 08/01/2018 21:02

REALLY milky with lots of sugar in the microwave. Porridge that's more than a tiny bit thick makes me feel sick for some reason, I don't know why.

EB123 · 08/01/2018 21:03

Full fat milk, no water.

Dahlietta · 08/01/2018 21:04

Definitely no water. Full fat milk makes it very creamy, but semi-skimmed is creamy enough for me!

Jobjobjob · 08/01/2018 21:04

I can't because you are BU for eating porridge oats, they are the good of the devil!

"Lighthearted"

Jobjobjob · 08/01/2018 21:05

*good = food!!!! FFS

Snowysky20009 · 08/01/2018 21:05

No water just milk. Also depends on which oats you buy. One is creamier than the other- but I can't remember which at the moment....

SuperBeagle · 08/01/2018 21:08

Use traditional oats, not quick oats. I soak mine in water for 30+ minutes first, then add full/whole milk. It'd definitely be creamier if you had just milk and no water, but that'd be a dairy overload, especially if you have tea/coffee with it!

TicketyBoo83 · 08/01/2018 21:09

One cup oats, one cup water, one cup milk. Heat gently til it thickens and rises up the sides of the pan. Two spoons sugar and a generous handful of sultanas or dried cranberries. I use a shallow ramekin in place of a cup which is enough for 1 person.

Scotts porridge oats with full fat milk and brown sugar. It's the nectar of the Gods. Sadly not for the diabetic amongst us - mine is now made with mainly water and a splash of soya milk, then a heaped spoon of plain Skyr yogurt stirred through. It's an acquired taste Grin Hmm

Nomad86 · 08/01/2018 21:11

2 parts full fat milk, 1 part oats. Then I add a bit of cream at the end if I have any in.

Battyoldbat · 08/01/2018 21:14

Exactly as issey says, with half whole milk and half water. I used to make it with all milk but it’s weirdly much tastier and creamier with half and half. And always stir clockwise with a spurtle.

WellThatsATurnipForTheBooks · 08/01/2018 21:15

I always used to make it on the hob but after getting fed up of washing the pan afterwards I now use a microwave method that I saw on here:

50g of porridge oats
220g of milk (or more if you prefer it less thick)

Microwave for 1.5 mins, stir and then microwave again for another 1.5 mins

llangennith · 08/01/2018 21:16

In the microwave. Half cup of oats, one cup of milk. Full power for 2mins 30secs. Remember your microwave may be faster/ slower.

mari652 · 08/01/2018 21:17

And a pinch of salt when cooking - really enhances the flavour.

SimonBridges · 08/01/2018 21:18

Scott’s oats. If it hasn’t got a fella In a kilt on the front it can get to fuck.
I make mine with one cup oats, one cup water, one cup oat milk.
Oh yes, oat milk.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 08/01/2018 21:18

Will run through these suggestions until I find the perfect porridge. Thanks everyone ❤️

Water and salt. Not really, but that's how my dad used to make it. Bleurgh... Having said that, a little pinch of salt in sweet porridge tastes amazing.

I make it in a pan, one cup of oats to two cups of milk, one of water. I use full fat milk. I used to do it in the microwave but it didn't cook properly imo and it is just as quick doing on the hob but I need a milk pan

CremeFresh · 08/01/2018 21:20

You need to use full fat milk and add a good slurp of evaporated milk.

OlennasWimple · 08/01/2018 21:22

I make it the same way as issey with equal proportions of oats, milk and water.

Make sure you use whole rolled oats, not quick oats

toldmywrath · 08/01/2018 21:23

Oatmeal of Alford is the best. Soak overnight in water, add more water and a pinch of salt. Stir with a spurtle, holding the bumpy end in your hand otherwise it's a pain to wash up. You can substitute the add more water and use half milk ( semi skimmed) half water.
My Dad would be turning in his grave seeing his daughter cook porridge with milk. Sad
