I've never stepped foot in an Iceland, but I huge one has opened up near me. I want to give it a go.

Any suggestions on some good buys?

My DS used to love that quinoa salad.

HopefulForToday · 07/01/2018 18:42

The only thing I buy there is their ready to eat frozen chicken.

It's in strips already and you just defrost and eat. I've tried versions from Tesco, Lidl and Asda and they're all gross...slimy and tasteless.

The one from Iceland is nice, like actual chicken. I make a salad and chuck a handful on top, frozen, at 7am. By the time it gets to lunchtime in work it's then ready to eat - no water as it defrosts or anything. So handy.

CheshireChat · 07/01/2018 18:46

HopefulForToday I really like the salad idea, thanks for the tip.

My nearest store is an Iceland so will be watching this.

retirednow · 07/01/2018 18:46

Frozen fruit in the slimming section, ice cream, vegetable spring rolls, aunt bessie chips and hash browns. I haven't ever tried their cookie dough but now I will, thanks for the tip, what about their frozen rolls, danish pastries - are they any good?

KnockMeDown · 07/01/2018 18:47

Try their Chateaubriand. We had it on Friday, accompanied by their broccoli and cauliflower bakes. Very nice!

charlyn · 07/01/2018 18:50

I mostly get bags of diced frozen chicken and various frozen veg from Iceland. Their meal in a bags are good as well, I really liked the salmon risotto one.

Badbadtromance · 07/01/2018 18:52

Squeezed fruit juices
Breads
Stone baked pizzas
Ice cream
Frozen puddings

myidentitymycrisis · 07/01/2018 18:53

I like to use my local one as it means I buy just what I need and dont get distracted.
spinach - big bag £1
basic fresh stuff is ok; milk, bread, eggs and cheese etc.
ready to bake croissants - nom

IncyWincyGrownUp · 07/01/2018 19:26

Their bakery white bloomer is really nice toasted. It’s £1 a loaf and quite tasty.

shartsi · 07/01/2018 19:27

Yoghurt peanuts at the checkout.

OvernightBloats · 07/01/2018 19:27

These are some of the items I have bought over and over again:

Frozen Morello Cherry Bakewell Tart - the best supermarket bakewell tart I have tasted, pastry is divine

Spinach and Ricotta Tortelloni - love it for a quick dinner

Frozen sushi - I know, nothing like the real thing etc., but it hits the spot for a low calorie lunch

Frozen veg - cheap - esp. like their frozen peas. They used to do frozen roasted Mediterranean veg but stopped selling it :(

Frozen fruit - good for smoothies and toppings for breakfast

Their ready meals are hit and miss. Enjoyed a few but one chicken one had a slight taste of chlorine...

MrsMotherHen · 07/01/2018 19:30

Their luxury seeded loaf is AMAZING. Aswell as the seeded flatbreads there luxury coleslaw is the best I have ever tasted. Oh I had a frozen veggie lasagne ready meal (am not even veggie) which was very very tasty! Ohhhhh and frozen chicken breast mince is very good too

I do like iceland can you tell? Blush

Longdistance · 07/01/2018 19:31

We like the chipped potatoes, so buy a few bags. Also, hash browns, frozen cooked chicken strips (handy for pasta dishes), and we get seafood from there. Though, avoid buying the scallops as they’re cheaper in Lidl’s.

Needthesunshine · 07/01/2018 19:36

We love the hot and spicy 100% chicken breast strips and the sliced tiger bloomer.

Thymeout · 07/01/2018 19:38

I mainly buy fresh stuff. Their steaks - sirloin or rump - are excellent value at £3, for 21 day aged British beef. They also do small packs of smoked salmon and their luxury sliced ham is good, too.

I second their frozen fruit pies - not too sweet and really buttery pastry.

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 07/01/2018 19:43

Salmon and pea risotto - so easy and tasty.

Frozen fish (haddock, tuna, cod 3 for £10)

Used to do salmon fillets 4 for £6 individually packed now they do 2 for £4 vacuum packed - such a shame as the four was easier to store & better value.

Cauliflower and brocolli gratins.

Mixed veg bags - buy them to cook for the dog.

Ostrich burgers

Their version of Magnums are excellent for teens that inhale the real versions 4 for a £1, Belgiun chocolate very nice.

The bags of frozen chicken strips Dd puts them on her cheese pizza. Good standby.

Mine has good deals on the pop too.

LemonysSnicket · 07/01/2018 20:28

Greggs sausagerolls.

Their Parmesan is cheap and very well packaged so it lasts well and doesn’t stink up Le Fridge.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 07/01/2018 20:35

Chicken strips, pizzas, prawns are good & they do bags of chicken spring rolls that are bloody gorgeous.

XiCi · 07/01/2018 20:44

I nipped in around Xmas and got a few bits and was so impressed with all of it. this groceries.iceland.co.uk/iceland-wild-red-shrimp-in-a-tomato-and-chilli-sauce-300g/p/68865 was really tasty for a quick and easy meal. Their frozen prawns I used in a Xmas day starter and they were really juicy, tasted lovely. Luxury coleslaw, nicest I've tasted for a long time and the nibbles such as prawn toast were gorgeous. Also got these groceries.iceland.co.uk/iceland-luxury-8-coconut-leaf-prawn-parcels-320g/p/69446 which were to die for.
Think I need to get myself back there and stock up, thanks for reminding me OP

XiCi · 07/01/2018 20:45

Oh also love their hot and spicy chicken wings, about a £1 a bag

IncyWincyGrownUp · 07/01/2018 21:42

My eldest likes the mini pies they used to do. She hasn’t quite come to terms with their disappearance.

Melfish · 07/01/2018 21:47

Greggs stuff.
Hash browns.
Parmesan.
Deluxe mince pies.
Mini magnum style lollies.
Had really nice sea bass fillets with veg wrapped in paper the other day and reasonably priced too.
I also got a mega box of 100 jaffa cakes there for £4 at Christmas, woohoo!

sahknowme · 07/01/2018 21:51

Their frozen mackerel is great. We often stock up on frozen veg, mackerel, prawns, burgers (the luxury ones) , mash, and breaded chicken.

Peachyking000 · 07/01/2018 21:52

Their own pizzas are lovely, as are the curly fries and breaded chicken strips.

Avoid bags of frozen chicken breasts. Looks like good value and they are massive, but they have a weird texture, too jelly-like.

They often have good value non frozen items such as cheap Heinz tomato ketchup

HollaHolla · 07/01/2018 22:10

The cauliflower/broccoli and the potato/cheese gratins are fab.... also the steam bags of veg, rice, quinoa are excellent for chucking into the microwave as meal accompaniments.
