Any suggestions on some good buys?

Hash brown fries are lovely addition to a cooked breakfast

thebear1 · 07/01/2018 17:25

I have a small one near work I pop to. I tend to avoid the ready meals but the chilled and fresh food seems well priced and I also buy the frozen veg. They used to do a lovely lemon muffin in the baked bit.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 07/01/2018 17:26

Greggs cheese and onion bakes

thebear1 · 07/01/2018 17:26

If you like greegs you can buy some of their stuff to cook at home.

Saladd0dger · 07/01/2018 17:27

I buy the lean diced beef for my stews, Cumberland sausages are nice. All the frozen veg is good. I’m not keen on the fresh fruit though, it doesn’t last.

Oblomov18 · 07/01/2018 17:28

Cauliflower cheese bake and also bags of it are good.
Plus cauliflower rice frozen bags are lovely.

LuxuryWoman2017 · 07/01/2018 17:32

A lot of the frozen fish is pretty good, they have a good range of breads (their finest range) it's good for soft drinks and juices and if you live in a more multi-cultural area they may have bags of Indian style snacks, pakoras, samosas etc. these are not the party range ones, much more authentic and delicious.

The Italian ice-cream tubs are really good and they often have offers on big bottles of ketchup/mayo/brown sauce (all branded) as well as coffee and tea

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 07/01/2018 17:35

The salmon parcels, in puff pastry with a cheese and dill sauce are lovely. Only £2 I think.

wellthatsjustgreat · 07/01/2018 17:36

I can also vouch for the hash brown fries - my kids love them & I can't seem to find them in any other shop.
Also, their chicken nuggets/strips/coated fillets are nice & reasonably priced. Just make sure you get the bags with "made from 100% breast fillet" on them rather than the reconstituted chicken versions Confused
Bags of frozen fish, tuna, salmon etc are good as well I think. I live in a fish avoiding household so it's easier for me to be able to pull a fish fillet out of the freezer for just little old me whilst the others have chicken yet again Smile

iklboo · 07/01/2018 17:36

The pulled beef brisket is gorgeous on their brioche buns

Raver84 · 07/01/2018 17:36

Frozen veg like peppers onion and mushroom anf frozen rice. Saves me loads of cooking time ae all the veg is chopped and ready to chuck in the pan

ScreamingValenta · 07/01/2018 17:38

My mum had Iceland's moussaka for the first time last week, and rated it more highly than the M&S moussaka they usually buy.

bakingaddict · 07/01/2018 17:39

The fresh pasta and sauces range in the chilled section are fab

CaptainHammer · 07/01/2018 17:50

Solo ice creams (soleros) and Vienna ice creams (mini vienettas)

Sunshineandcocktails · 07/01/2018 18:04

ScreamingValenta - My husband agrees that the moussaka is lovely!

IncyWincyGrownUp · 07/01/2018 18:13

It’s handy for fresh meat for us if I forget to defrost stuff. They do a 5% fat mince that’s nice enough, and they have a range of bacon and sausages etc.

The frozen potato dauphinois is ace to have in the freezer. The stone bake pizzas aren’t too bad for the price, my lot really like the meat feast one.

iklboo · 07/01/2018 18:14

Oooh the chicken, pulled ham & leek gratin ready meal is delicious as well. And the steak chianti ragu is DS's favourite quick meal.

Mintylizzy9 · 07/01/2018 18:20

Had their frozen mash with dinner today, much nicer than Sainsbury's and Morrisons.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 07/01/2018 18:21

The Millie’s cookies ready to bake pain au chocolate. Ive been disappointed by ready to cook pastries before, but these are really good.

fannyfelcher · 07/01/2018 18:27

The extra special frozen meals are pretty good and they change the range frequently. My favourites are the king prawn alfredo and steak chianti ragu. They are £2.59 each and a perfectly acceptable quick fix when i'm home at 9.30pm on Tuesday and Wednesday. My teens love the sausage cheesy bean potato ready meals that are £1 each and also like the chicken curry from the same range. The frozen chicken breasts are good value at £5 for 1.5kg. My youngest son loves the mid range 4 pack of meat or chicken pies. And they go gaga for the hot dog stuffed crust pizzas! I prefer the ham and muchroom pala pizza for myself.

They have really come on in leaps and bounds in the last few years and I like the delivery option for filling the chest freezer

Cakeisbest · 07/01/2018 18:34

Second vote for the 100% chicken breast strips, also zingy quinoa with mixed beans. Often good prices on chocolates and crisps.

CheshireChat · 07/01/2018 18:36

Their king prawns are great and cheaper than most places.

I like their fresh chicken as well.

Frozen veg is generally really good idea if you like big florets and chunks, their corn on the cob is incredibly sweet.

Pizzas aren't bad, aren't great and the chicken popcorn isn't any worse than anywhere else really.

crunchymint · 07/01/2018 18:38

Frozen veg, ice cream and frozen fish.

FluffyWuffy100 · 07/01/2018 18:38

Loads of stuff is good!

The veg and fish are fab and good value.
