AIBU To Ask How You Wipe Yours?

I'm new to glasses and wanted to hear some tips on how to keep them nice and transparent.

How do you wipe? Do you use fluids or give them a huff to steam them then wipe?

And yes, this could be the dullest thread of the year.

Usually my cotton tshirt. Occassionally buy spectacle wipes in Aldi.

Goldenbug · 04/01/2018 14:08

Are the wipes good? I'm still using the Specsavers cloth that came with the glasses, and my cotton T-shirt. Can take 4 or 5 goes to get smear free.

I use windowlene. Only thing that can keep the buggers clean.

liz70 · 04/01/2018 14:09

Wash with warm water and liquid soap; dry with towel. Wiping with dry cloth just smears grease around ime. (Glasses wearer for 40 years.)

RavingRoo · 04/01/2018 14:09

Windowlene and a microfibre cloth

Clandestino · 04/01/2018 14:09

I have the Vision Express cloth and wet wipes. Wet wipe and then the cloth.
Usually from front to the back. Aehm.

ToadOfSadness · 04/01/2018 14:09

I wash mine with either shampoo or washing up liquid and then dry them on a very soft cloth. If I am out I use the little cloth from the optician.

DramaAlpaca · 04/01/2018 14:13

I huff on them then wipe with a tissue usually, never on my clothes. If they need a really good clean I use wipes from Lakeland, which are the best I've found & I've tried loads.

BeyondThePage · 04/01/2018 14:13

go haaaaaaaah on them with my breath and wipe with the corner of my blouse.

strugglingtodomybest · 04/01/2018 14:14

I usually use my t shirt.

Rebeccaslicker · 04/01/2018 14:15

I was warned not to use paper, e.g. a tissue as apparently it scratches the lens. Cloth only!

BuffysFavouriteStake · 04/01/2018 14:18

Washing up liquid/liquid soap and warm water, dry with soft cloth or T-shirt.

Stopped using tissues after accidentally using a balsalm one. Smear city.

meredintofpandiculation · 04/01/2018 14:41

Huff and soft cotton handkerchief. Warm water and a bar of soap if things get desperate. And a cocktail stick once every 6 months or so to clean the gunge that builds up between lens and frame.

But I have to say that the brain learns to disregard out-of-focus dust and marks.

Whitecurrants · 04/01/2018 14:50

My optician sold me a little bottle of spray cleaner, I use that with one of the soft cloths they sell/give away with glasses

ThePants999 · 04/01/2018 14:50

Front to back.

(While holding them vertically, of course!) ;)

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 04/01/2018 15:07

Glasses wipes
Spray cleaner
Soft cloth
Water
Soap and water

The cloths they give you nowadays are hopeless. They're too shiny and don't absorb or clean properly.

MrsMoastyToasty · 04/01/2018 15:27

Spray cleaner, breathing on them , or fairy liquid but never anything with microbeads.

TabbyMumz · 04/01/2018 15:49

Fairy liquid, rinse them with water, then tap them and blow on them till the water comes off. It leaves little water marks, but better than being greasy.

hellsbellsmelons · 04/01/2018 15:55

liz70 has it right.
I've worn glasses for 25 years now and this is what works best.
Although I tend to do them in the work toilets and use the hand towels to dry them.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 04/01/2018 15:56

Came on here to see if you were the Poo Troll. As you were. Grin

RhythmStix · 04/01/2018 15:59

What a lovely thread Grin.

apostropheuse · 04/01/2018 16:00

Fairy liquid, shampoo, optical wipes, soft cloth, tissue or bottom of t shirt.Basically whatever is handy.

My 5 yr old granddaughter does the breathing and cleaning them with her t shirt thing. It rarely removes the gunge she manages to cover them in though. Grin

Goldenbug · 04/01/2018 16:21

I'll definitely try washing them next time they need a mayor going over.

Thanks everybody. You're all wonderful specs therapists!

Fairy liquid (or similar washing liquid) and warm water - then dry them with kitchen roll!
