I do love a good meme, but not the attention seeky ones. More these type...

I AM ME and that's all I ever will be! 👑

Well then, if you are sooo YOU then write your own blurb then.

I'm with you OP

DrDiva · 03/01/2018 20:13

@notreallyarsed well you’re taking her advice and going for the cool non-speaking thing (aka fuck off Grin )

MargaretCavendish · 03/01/2018 20:13

My absolute pet hate is people who describe themselves as 'people pleasers' or as 'someone who always puts everyone else first'. These aren't things you can declare about yourself!

DrDiva · 03/01/2018 20:14

nakedscientist exactly! I am reminded of The Life of Brian:

You’re all individuals!

No, I’m not!

LittleMyLikesSnuffkin · 03/01/2018 20:16

I cringe at this shit. And ironically it’s usually posted by those who can barely manage to go to the toilet alone without telling everyone on fb about it because they need a constant stream of attention.

Hatsoffdear · 03/01/2018 20:16

You know my sil op. She posts shit like this and is the biggest drama queen out who never helps anyone.

Depending on my mood I either want to kill her or laugh.

Rhodiolia · 03/01/2018 20:17

I love FB, I find it a fascinating social window, getting front seat access to all the weird and wonderful people out there! These inspirational quotes are so crap and twee and self-serving, its interesting seeing who posts them. Sometimes I am really surprised at which friends share them!

I don't like these memes, though I won't get rid of FB. I am a member of quite a few very supportive groups, I have joined many community projects/classes that I wouldn't have known about if I had seen them on FB and my social groups tend to use it for organising events. I'd lose out on so much by deactivating. I also have family flung to the far corners, who like to see photos of what we are up to and vice versa.

MinorRSole · 03/01/2018 20:19

@Notreallyarsed that one is quite amusing. I have recently discovered gifs. I have a close friend I message regularly and we mainly communicate in gifs now. We find ourselves very amusing with it but no doubt others wouldn't agree. We do mainly keep it to private messaging though

I think people who are struggling put huge weight in these 'realisations' and 'declarations' about themselves. I always see it as a sign that someone is suffering a bit and doesn't have the self confidence/resilience to not need external validation about who they are and what their good points are. It's often a cry for recognition. So I don't find these things annoying when I think of what is actually behind them.

Notreallyarsed · 03/01/2018 20:23

@DrDiva I was stunned into silence by the level of fuckwittery Grin

@MinorRSole gifs between friends are bloody hilarious, usually because they’re actually funny. I find myself having entire conversations with friends using only gifs

BelfortGabbz · 03/01/2018 20:42

I rarely use FB anymore, after realising it was making me feel shitty about hating people posting attention seeking bollocks.

Best thing I did. Can go for weeks without it. Quite empowering really.

brizzledrizzle · 03/01/2018 20:42

In my experience the ones who post the memes and so on on FB are the ones who just need to be popular in a shallow way, the people who really need the friendship and help just keep quiet and try to carry on.

MinorRSole · 03/01/2018 20:44

I think you are probably right @UnitedKungdom and I shall be forever grateful that the Internet didn't even exist during my teen years. A lot of it is fairly normal teenage angst style stuff but instead of writing it in a diary it's on the Internet for everyone to see

@Ragusa You are SO right, that made me chuckle.

MorbidBibliomancy · 03/01/2018 21:13

Sometimes, for a giggle, I like to spam the 'generate' button on inspirobot.me and post the best results on my FB. It comes up with much better stuff than all this 'If you can't handle me at my worst...' twee shit. For example:

sparechange · 03/01/2018 21:19

There is a special circle of hell for adults who post these memes with a picture of a minion

WeirdAndPissedOff · 03/01/2018 21:33

Morbid - thanks to you, I think I may have just found my favourite meme yet:
Grin

To ask people to stop posting
afishnotabird · 03/01/2018 21:37

A relative of mine put up one just before Christmas that essentially said ‘my house is a safe space, if you need company, support, shelter etc. over the festive season, you don’t need to ask, just show up and you’ll be welcome’...

then promptly went abroad for a fortnight

MinorRSole · 03/01/2018 21:42

@afishnotabird Grin was a lovely sentiment though

Forgot about the be like bob ones. They were tiresome but gladly seem to have subsided now

One of the things that irritates me beyond reason is people who start mystery threads on Mumsnet ...

The site allows for long thread titles so give an indication of what you are posting about! How hard is that?

MinorRSole · 03/01/2018 22:45

Very irritating I agree, hand dutifully slapped. Still not as annoying as the meme Wink

OP posts:
RestingGrinchFace · 03/01/2018 22:47

These things are both annoying and concerning-people really shouldn't be saying these things about thrmselves

Ohmyfuck · 03/01/2018 22:56

The ones who post vaguely about feeling down. And then the comments flood in! "You ok Hun?" Ffs.

Dogsmom · 03/01/2018 22:56

They annoy and fascinate me in equal measure, they're usually posted by people who also type cryptic status updates along the lines of " Can't believe what happened today" then ignore all the comments asking what and they also check in at hospital without saying why.

A fellow school Mum recently sent a friends request and it turns out she sells a well known meal replacement diet, she posts at least 10 times a day ranging from a video of her making up a shake to pointless memes and many selfies with rabbit ears, huge eyes etc.
