I am
Wondering what you spend each month on food ? Including alcohol, household bits - eg. Cleaning products and food for packed lunches .

I don't budget as such, but do meal plan - we eat mainly vegetarian, with a couple of fish meals per week, no alcohol at the moment, 2 adults, 3dc (just) under 10 and a big dog. I spend at least £600 a month - that is what I would aim for - but often closer to £800. I find it very difficult to get it any lower than £600.

IHaveACuntingPlan · 03/01/2018 14:49

£300 a month at the most. Less if at all possible. We rarely drink, and when we do dh wins loads of alcohol from work so we just drink that. We buy frozen veg etc from Iceland. We get value brands wherever possible. We get household stuff from places like home bargains.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 03/01/2018 14:50

About £800 per month. That includes everything. Baby stuff, beauty stuff, alcohol, cleaning, laundry, the lot!

Idontevencareanymore · 03/01/2018 14:53

About £400 a month, variable by week.
This week is £90 but stocking up the cupboards for basics, don't need much meat due to leftovers from Christmas in freezer.
Can also be a bit more if I get some deals at the butchers but that then makes it less over the months.

£400-500 a month for 2 adults, 4 children, 2 in nappies, and an extra large breed dog. That includes all household goods too. My main shop is with Ocado, then Lidl for the bits I can get cheaper there or don't need to be organic. We don't drink or have take aways, all meals are cooked from scratch, and I buy organic wherever possible or preferable.

£200 in a high spend month, probably £150 average, sometimes it can be £100 if I've decided to stock up on all the cleaning stuff toilet roll pet food etc so that doesn't need buying that month. 1 adult 1 child and 2 greedy rats! I cook almost everything from scratch, we never get takeaways (because we don't like them!). I don't count meals out or alcohol in the household budget as I consider them luxuries and pay for from whatever money is spare that month. We never go without anything on that budget either, we eat well and healthily, lots of fruit and veg and have "the usual" treats aswell. We don't eat a lot of meat which helps, I usually only need to buy meat/chicken once a month and freeze it. I shop in a few places, I'm lucky I have the time to shop around so that saves money, I'll get the basics and most fruit/veg from Aldi and the other/naice bits from Ocado or Waitrose. When I was really cash strapped I learned to feed both of us on about £10-15 per week from Aldi (including cleaning stuff etc) cooking from scratch and forgoing most of the luxuries, it wasn't great but we were well fed. So spending £200 a month seems extravagant to me!

£320 a month for me and 2 teen DS who both eat like horses

Footofthestairs · 03/01/2018 15:54

£80 a week for a family of 4 plus 2 cats. Includes cat litter and wet food but not the dry as that is bought from a pet shop separately. Occasionally this is topped up with a bread & milk run if we run out between weekly shops. We meal plan and shop online for collection to keep to our budget.

SafetyLightsAreForDudes · 03/01/2018 15:59

1 adult plus 3 DCs 14, 10 and 8. The kids eat at my parents' house twice a week so it's more like 5 evening meals that I buy for.

We spend about £600 pcm, including all groceries and 3 days school dinners for each of the kids. I get a small (£40-ish) Ocado shop twice a week (have a delivery pass) and top up with Asda for stuff where needed. I try and stock up on non-perishables when they're on special offer. The only alcohol is Jack Daniels when it's on offer maybe once or twice a year (I don't drink a lot) and most of the cleaning products just come in my normal shop apart from a few bits I get from Wilkos. I know I could probably get it down a bit by shopping around more but tbh I prioritise convenience.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/01/2018 16:03

£350-£400 a month for 2 adults and a cat. That includes alcohol for DH and (expensive) food and litter for the cat.

chocolateworshipper · 03/01/2018 16:05

£700 a month for 2 adults and 2 teens. That includes all cleaning products, all toiletries, pet food and alcohol. There's no way I'm letting DH see this thread!

isawahatonce · 04/01/2018 10:52

I have £573 a month for everything - including rent and bills. I probably spend about £100 a month on food but it's only me so should really be a lot less. I'm trying to budget better this year as I really need to build up some savings.

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/01/2018 10:56

£330 a month - 3 adults ( 1 only home at weekends) , a teen , 2 infant age dc and 3 toddlers. School age dc eat lunch at school daily and toddlers three times a week at nursery.
Includes cleaning products, toilet roll etc. Pull ups and wipes are purchased seperatelynin Amazon subscriptions.

caperberries · 04/01/2018 10:56

About £600-£800 a month, we have 3 dcs. Reading this is making me feel pretty profligate!

Someoneasdumbasthis · 04/01/2018 10:57

about £700 - £800 per month, sometimes more. we entertain a lot so this includes that, plus booze. It includes everything i buy from supermarket, local farm shop and butcher. Doesn't include my lunch at work or eating out/takeaways. It's too much I am aware, but we like our food and wine.

Someoneasdumbasthis · 04/01/2018 10:58

sorry should say that is 3 adults (me DH and au pair) plus 2 DCs, 6 and 8. And a fish.

ladyvimes · 04/01/2018 11:05

About £400 on food and household stuff. 2 adults and 2 children.
Have takeaways every other week. Eat out once or twice a month.

Youshallnotpass · 04/01/2018 11:07

£230-£250 a month. 2 Adults, 1 DS and a cat

CazM2012 · 04/01/2018 11:09

£350 a month, 2 adults, 4 kids, we don’t really drink or have takeaways

AnotherRanger · 04/01/2018 11:42

£200-250 a month for me and DS. Could probably get it lower but I like to have the cupboards and freezer well stocked.
I think food is just one of those where people spend what they can afford so there were times when I only had £15-20 a week for food so that's what I spent and we managed but if you can afford £800 a month then you spend that.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 04/01/2018 11:56

I’ve never really checked, as I don’t do a big shop at any point, I just buy every few days.

One to think about, as it’s definitely more than it probably could be.
