I am
Wondering what you spend each month on food ? Including alcohol, household bits - eg. Cleaning products and food for packed lunches .

Zatsuma

I used to spend a fortune on takeaways but we now only get one once every other month. I do a "fakeaway" every Saturday night. So much cheaper and healthier. I love cooking so it's fun for me trying to recreate our favourite takeaway dishes and it saves us loads Smile

TwoBlueFish · 03/01/2018 13:10

£350-£400 per month, 2 adults, 2 teen DS and a cat.

Kids both have school lunches which cost extra.

AutumnalTed · 03/01/2018 13:21

150-175 for 2 adults and a (breastfed) baby in nappies. Our packed lunches definitely make it more expensive, also eat meat most days.

hungryhippo90 · 03/01/2018 13:21

2A1C who eats like an adult and a huge dog spend £45 a week on us plus £15 for dog £240 in total.

misshannah · 03/01/2018 13:24

£150pm 2 adults 2 dogs. £20 of it on alcohol. Doesn't include lunches in the week.

Pickleypickles · 03/01/2018 13:38

£250-£300 a month, for one adult and one 10 month old so that includes formula nappies and jars.

Clutterbugsmum · 03/01/2018 13:46

I try to stick to £100 per week (food and cleaning products) for 2 adults, 1 teen and 2 children. But I don't buy any alcohol as only DH drinks and he only buys some occasionally.

ExConstance · 03/01/2018 13:48

£290 pcm for two adults, though DH buys eggs and some veg on top of this at the farm shop. As DH is coeliac and I'm vegetarian (tough he does eat the same as me most of the time) this adds to the expense.

tangledyarn · 03/01/2018 13:52

Probably about 350 for 2 adults and 2 cats although we could obviously do it for a lot less we have been rubbish at budgeting recently. Includes a takeaway once a week and alcohol.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 03/01/2018 13:52

PRobaby around £400 a month 2 adults and 2 “kids”, shopping mainly in Aldi, although kids are teens and eat HUGE amounts. I mean, HUGE. One is 14 and growing at a ridiculous rate and is always hungry. I bet he could eat a bag of roast potatoes to himself!

TeaAndBisquits · 03/01/2018 13:57

Ours is £250 for 2 adults, 7 year old and 3 year old.
Rarely drink alcohol. Maybe the odd bottle of wine or cider.
Takeaway once every 3-4 weeks at £25 not included.

Shadowboy · 03/01/2018 13:57

All in probably £500 including all alcohol, cleaning products and lunches.

YouCantBeSirius · 03/01/2018 13:58

Probably between £400-£450 per month. 2 adults, 2 kids and 3 cats who eat a lot of raw meat. No alcohol as we don't tend to drink.

KayBay90 · 03/01/2018 14:08

£68 a month. 1 dc, 2 adults.
I go without sometimes so they can eat, it's all we can afford. But there you have it.
Smile

Zatsuma · 03/01/2018 14:14

KayBa90
that's not very much at all.
Have you got a freezer at least? Only asking because it is cheaper to buy food (or ingredients) in bigger quantity, and make several meals at once.

RandomUsernameHere · 03/01/2018 14:18

Probably about £400/month for 2 adults and 2 preschool DC. That doesn't include DH's lunch or much alcohol as we only drink when we're entertaining.

SleepingStandingUp · 03/01/2018 14:20

About 260 a month. Two adults, 1 toddler so nappies but not really food as he's on prescription formula. No pets

KayBay90 · 03/01/2018 14:28

I have a small freezer.
We do all of our shopping monthly, because then we don't have to spend more on the bus. But that means we either have to have 4 bottles of milk in the freezer or have UHT (more expensive per litre) so it'll last. Then it's all frozen and cupboard food. It means we only have tinned or frozen veg or fruit because we cannot afford any waste at all.
Mercifully that's the cheapest stuff.
I do bulk cook, meal plan and bulk buy (up to a month) where possible. For eg I'll buy the big block of value cheese, grate it up and freeze it. It's about £4 for a cheap big block of cheese, about £1.50-£2.00 for a smaller one that won't last half the month let alone the whole month (the big block generally does about 6 weeks, but as I said I grate and freeze)
Sorry for rambling lol, I do my best and my LO doesnt starve so I'm happy.

Honeybooboo123 · 03/01/2018 14:34

We don't buy cleaning products as have a ckeaner but otherwise 800 a month excluding eating out 1-2 a week.

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/01/2018 14:34

we are about £5-600. Effectively 4 adults (teen Dss are 6'3 and 6'2) DH and I are also both tall adults. and we have a cat.

I don't shop around and don't shop in aldi etc. as we both work and want to get my shopping in one go. We don't drink a lot but do eat a lot of meat and organic fruit and DH has allergies so we are restricted in which washing powders and household cleaners we can use.

Aisforahole · 03/01/2018 14:40

.

noeffingidea · 03/01/2018 14:44

I'm not sure at the moment. This time last year it was £30/week for myself and my teenage daughter, plus her free school meals.
I'm better off now, so I'm going to set it at £50/week top limit.

noeffingidea · 03/01/2018 14:45

PS, my budget does not include alcohol.

noeffingidea · 03/01/2018 14:47

Kaybay sorry to hear you are struggling. Hope things pick up for you.

Strokethefurrywall · 03/01/2018 14:49

About $800 without alcohol, I feel extraordinarily pleased if I get it down to $600 a month.
With alcohol though, different ball game. Can easily add $200-$250 a month on booze onto the original $800.
