The advice is to stay at home and self care. Fine, not a problem. How long do you self care before you get help?
I think I have norovirus. I spent the last 7 nights waking up being sick. I'm constantly nauseous. Can't eat or sleep and am sweating.
This morning is particularly bad. I've been up for the last 4 hours being sick but now I've got it coming out the other end too.
I appear to be getting worse. I am absolutely fucked and I don't know how I'm going to cope with looking after my 5 month old today.

Aibu to make a doctors appointment? I should add I had post partem preeclampsia that I didn't manage very well after the birth and I've stopped taking medicine and I've not checked my blood pressure at all. Could this be related?

I'd normally give it a couple of weeks as noro can knock you for weeks but can't hurt to ask 111s advice.

ButtMuncher · 02/01/2018 07:43

Please don't go to the doctors. If you're that unwell, you can request a doctor come to you to check your blood pressure and other vitals, but honestly, dragging yourself to the surgery and then waiting for x amount of time with a baby is going to make you feel worse, not better. It sounds horrific and my worst nightmare but going to the surgery won't help it and could pass it on to those who are immune compromised such as elderly and babies as young as your own.

If you have a DH/DP/parent that can look after your baby, they really need to be helping you out so you can rest.

In your position I would ask for a home check if you are genuinely worried it's something other than a sickness bug. If you're not keeping anything down (water mainly) then you could be dehydrated and the GP can prescribe accordingly.

InAPickleToday · 02/01/2018 07:43

Ring the surgery and ask for a call back from a doctor. He/she will speak to you on the phone and decide whether or not you need to go in.

restofthetimes · 02/01/2018 07:44

Do a phone call with the doctor and see what they say.

Jammysod · 02/01/2018 07:48

I'd call 111 initially rather than risk taking d&v to the doctors without reason. Definitely speak to someone, I don't think the vomiting should be going on for longer than a couple of days.

ZoopDragon · 02/01/2018 07:49

Don't go to the doctors, you could infect lots of people (including babies, toddlers, elderly people, people undergoing chemo etc).
Call 111 for advice or ask for a home visit.

It sounds like it might be food poisoning? Noro is usually over in a couple of days. I've had food poisoning and viral gastroenteritis that's dragged on for weeks.

Are you taking diorylate or Imodium or anything?

KathArtic · 02/01/2018 07:54

I think you need some medical advice so please call someone.

In the meantime try to drink some lemonade, not water, for the salts and sugars to avoid becoming dehydrated.

Hope you feel better soon.

FireCracker2 · 02/01/2018 07:55

I would phone the surgery and ask for a go to call you back.

fluffygreenmonsterhoody · 02/01/2018 07:57

Absolutely don’t go to the doctor. Please call instead.

Hope you feel better soon.

Kittysparks1 · 02/01/2018 07:59

To be fair I'm not even capable of dragging my ass to the doctor in this state.
Thanks I knew making an appointment wasn't the right thing to do. My partner suggested it because he is concerned.
He has looked after our son for the last week but now has to go back to work and we cannot afford him to have time off. I've just moved to a different city with no family/friends so I'm on my own here!

I've been taking anti sickness tablets sparingly as I've only a couple left and am scared of not having any. But only taking these once the sick is all up and I know I won't waste them.

I have been eating and drinking hardly anything because I can't face it. The thought of food makes me heave. Water is about all I can manage but I have to be careful.

Food poisoning you say? I wonder what from, I don't eat meat and my hygiene levels are rediculous. But of course this is possible.

I'm just so grateful my partner and baby seem to be fine. Because I don't think I could cope with mum guilt right now.

Actually the diarrhoea is a good sign w noro. Means the bug is working its way out of your system. Should be another few days until you're clear.

Personally I wouldn't go to a doctor unless you fear dehydration- but if you might have other health conditions that may complicate things then I would certainly ring.

Sleephead1 · 02/01/2018 08:08

Ring the doctor op and they might want a still sample from you this will pick up if any bugs ECT and you may need antibiotics to clear it. Also they will be able to advise what to look out for such as signs of dehydration ECT. Hope you feel better soon it sounds awful. Can you try and sleep if you baby has a nap and just sort of make a camp on setter in bed with everything you need in easy reach?

LakieLady · 02/01/2018 08:10

Unless you have a fever or are dehydrated*, I wouldn't worry too much. Flat coke, lemonade or barley water squash will help prevent dehydration (my GP reckons barley water is almost as good as Dioralyte).

Can your partner pick up some more anti-sickness tablets on his way home? When I run out of metoclopramide, I buy Stugeron travel sickness tablets over the counter, they seem to work almost as well.

*My mum trained as a nurse back in the dark ages and she used to test for dehydration by pinching a bit of the skin on the back of the hand and checking that it went back down again, iyswim.

Increasinglymiddleaged · 02/01/2018 08:16

You can get food poisoning from all sorts OP. Anything that has had germs introduced and you then eat can make you ill. So salad for example is a prime suspect, hummus is another. Meat is only a risk if you don't cook it properly in the first place.

Call the doctor's for advice, they are likely to want a 'sample' for analysis. The only time I've been as I'll as you describe I had salmonella, but it was more d and less v so maybe that is actually a sign yours is noro?

Kittysparks1 · 02/01/2018 08:25

I don't think I've got a fever I'll hunt out my babies thermo thingy when I get the energy. I feel freezing according to my partner but I'm sweating and then get really cold then sweat again. He only revealed to me yesterday the heating is off and he has spent Christmas freezing his bits off.

I'm clinging onto the runs being a sign this is going to be over soon.

I'm not dehydrated. I had hg with my pregnancy so know the signs well!

I think I'll see how I go today and tonight in the hope I shat the virus out.

Thank you all for your suggestions and reassurances. I know going to a doctor surgery with sickness is fucking stupid and selfish I don't know why I even thought to do so, desperation?! I will call the doctor tomorrow if needed.

Call your doctor. Noro like food poisoning, if really bad, can destabilise your gut bacterial. A friend's DH ended up in hospital after weeks of 'noro' following food poisoning. It was a gut infection caused by the poisoning.

Increasinglymiddleaged · 02/01/2018 08:27

I really think you should call the doctor's today OP.

Engorged · 02/01/2018 08:27

Seen you keep getting cold and sweaty, friend's DH had the same. Get some grape juice too,it helps.

JaneEyre70 · 02/01/2018 08:28

I would say that with norovirus, you need to completely rest your stomach for a good 24/48 hours after the symptoms have passed. Keep drinking boiled water with some sugar/salt in but no food. Then when you do start eating, go for plain toast and some natural yogurt to get some good bacteria into your gut again. You may have tried food too soon?
I had food poisoning once, from a chicken sandwich. It was absolutely horrendous and after 3 weeks of constant upset stomach/nausea, I went to my GP and had to have antibiotics. I went vegetarian afterwards as there was no way I was going through that again. I would perhaps ring your GP for advice, it will be norovirus if others in your home have had it but if not, I'd probably think it's food poisoning.

PinguForPresident · 02/01/2018 08:28

I think you should seek medical advice. Not at the surgery, but you need to speak to someone. Vomiting for a week, self medicating with anti-emetics, all while in charge of a young baby is not good.

The pre-ecampsia is a complicating factor. It's a serious condition and you at least need a BP review.

Call the Dr today. Don't play down your symptoms.

lljkk · 02/01/2018 08:32

If you haven't been swabbed then you don't know that it's norovirus. I thought I had a terrible tum bug that turned out to be a completely different raging blood infection.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 02/01/2018 08:39

I think pingu has given you some e
excellent advice.
You definitely need to call to get some medical advice and be seen if they decide necessary.

frumpety · 02/01/2018 08:43

Which medication have you stopped taking ? Do you have the means to check your blood pressure at home ? I would give the GP a ring and at least speak to them about this . Hope you feel better soon Flowers

MuseumOfCurry · 02/01/2018 08:44

Poor you. I'm so sorry. Flowers

Ledkr · 02/01/2018 08:45

I know people say not to go to the dr but there needs to be some kind of medical advice when you are like this?
I had it last year and literally didn't keep anything down for 7 whole days and was shitting pure blood.
I spoke to various Drs who all told me to take sips of water (which would immediately come up) I never left my bed that whole time and lost over a stone.
I gave up asking for advice and just accepted if it was something serious I'd just die quietly.
Recounting this story later on to a dr when I went about something else, he said the blood thing was a very bad sign and he'd have had me admitted.
Hope you feel better soon op
