The advice is to stay at home and self care. Fine, not a problem. How long do you self care before you get help?
I think I have norovirus. I spent the last 7 nights waking up being sick. I'm constantly nauseous. Can't eat or sleep and am sweating.
This morning is particularly bad. I've been up for the last 4 hours being sick but now I've got it coming out the other end too.
I appear to be getting worse. I am absolutely fucked and I don't know how I'm going to cope with looking after my 5 month old today.

Aibu to make a doctors appointment? I should add I had post partem preeclampsia that I didn't manage very well after the birth and I've stopped taking medicine and I've not checked my blood pressure at all. Could this be related?

How long post partum are you? If it's within 6 weeks it could be related to the PE (although unlikely). Can you keep diarolyte down?

I'd seek medical advice over the phone.

Backingvocals · 02/01/2018 08:51

I think you need medical advice. This ill for a week is not normal with noro. DD had something similar as a toddler - dr was dubious that it was anything concerning but did a stool sample. Turned out she had salmonella. No idea where she got it from.

So yes talk to the surgery or 111.

FarAwayFromLand · 02/01/2018 08:54

Jeez call the doctor or 111 TODAY not tomorrow! You need proper medical advice after this amount of time, with other health factors and a small baby.

Dragongirl10 · 02/01/2018 08:54

op you need to be taking Dioralyte rehydration drinks, just add water and sip constantly......they should not make you vomit but will make you feel stronger.

Don't try and eat until sickness has stopped,

Reallycantbebothered · 02/01/2018 08:57

Other things too consider is cryptosporidium.....( causes watery. Diarrhoea and vomiting....due to parasites)
My husband had this several yrs ago - due to eating contaminated food, from someone who hadn't washed their hands
You should phone for advice, yyou may need to supply a stool specimen to confirm diagnosis....
These 2 pages might help

The op says she has a 5 month old.

LornaMumsnet · 02/01/2018 10:05

Hi folks,

We're just popping on to say that although Mumsnet can be a great network of advice, it's in no way a replacement for real-life support by medical professionals. We'd always recommend seeking RL help, too.

Well why dont you take your medication?!

Some people want a quick fix but arent prepared to do the work. It hasnt even crossed your mind to call the surgery to speak to a gp first. You'd rather risk everyone elses health by going there.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 02/01/2018 11:57

Phone today and explain your situation. See what they say. My surgery has an isolation room, does yours?

PersianCatLady · 02/01/2018 12:30

I've been taking anti sickness tablets sparingly as I've only a couple left and am scared of not having any
Unless you are 100% certain that you DO NOT have an infection then you should not take anti-nausea / anti-sickness medicines for D & V.

D & V clears the infection from the body but using these medicines stops this and can make the infection last for longer.

Call 111 or call your GP and ask for a phone consultation.

Are you/have you recently been breastfeeding?
Just wondering as i had it and felt awful (shaky like a stomach bug and freezing cold).
seems a long time for stomach bug plus usually others in the family would get it.

Whoa guys please stop having a go! Yeah I'm pretty sure I have ptsd, I will see a doctor about it but stuff has been hectic.
I had a em c sec, got evicted and have only just settled so I will now look after myself! The last few months have been survival for me and I only posted out of desperation. I wouldn't actually rock up to the surgery without calling first. I just wanted perspective because when you are ill things can seem worse than they are. I've had a range of advice but most people say seek medical advice so I will.
I stopped with my medication after I ran out as the doctor was expecting me to push a push chair a mile up the road for blood pressure readings every few days and I physically couldn't cope anymore.
I know, totally stupid. Probably related to the pnd and the absolute exhaustion of having a baby!

I agree that you need medical advice but that going to the surgery was a bad idea (which I know you now realise and wasn’t your idea in the first place)

Call your surgery in the first instance and ask for a telephone consultation. If they can’t help then 111 who will be able to advise and refer on if necessary.

I hope you feel better very soon Flowers

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 02/01/2018 13:17

Why on earth does this poor poster deserve abuse, Niki? She's already agreed not to go to the GP, and that she asked on here because she was so unsure about the idea. She's feeling dreadful - how about some kindness?

lougle · 02/01/2018 13:21

You need to see a medical professional today. Norovirus is vicious, and strikes so quickly that most people can remember what they were doing when they got ill. It lasts a short while, during which time you can't do anything, and then it leaves. There's residual weakness and a sensitive gut in terms of diet, but when it's gone, it's gone.

You have had sickness sweats and now diarrhoea for a week. It's not improving. You need to be seen and get properly assessed. Phone your surgery and ask for a home visit in the first instance.

Differentcorner · 02/01/2018 13:56

Sorry but anti sickness tablets are in no way harmful if it should be a bug. The only purpose of vomiting is to allow the virus to spread not to clear it out, total myth. Symptoms stop once immune system has overcome the invasion! As pp's have said and as a healthcare professional I would urge you to be seen. You are likely very deviants that in itself can lead to a ketotic state where you are in a cycle of vomiting. If you have had PET and not been followed up properly this is a big concern also. Please just make the call and get yourself seen to, out yourself first please

Differentcorner · 02/01/2018 13:56

That should say*put yourself first

My GP told me that one month ago when I had norovirus for two weeks.

I am not saying that you are wrong or lying but it is pretty crap when the advice that your GP gives you cannot be trusted.

Thanks anyway.

peachgreen · 02/01/2018 16:14

@PersianCatLady I was given the same advice re: anti-sickness tablets by my GP, that they should never be taken until the cause of the vomiting is determined by a medical professional.

Hope you get some advice OP and feel better soon. Sounds horrendous.

PersianCatLady · 02/01/2018 16:18

Another thing is that a chemist will only sell you Buccastem for "migraine related nausea / sickness", if you give any other reason for wanting to buy it they tell you to go to a doctor first.

Most other decent anti-emetics (metoclopramide / odanestron) are prescription only medicines and unless you already have some, you need to get them from the GP.

AuntLydia · 02/01/2018 16:20

I hope you rang the surgery in the end. I had to for ds last year when he had been sick for a week and I was worried about dehydration. They actually DID ask me to bring him in despite me explaining about his symptoms.
