Can anyone recommend a good quality doll that is targeted at both sexes and/or isn’t too ‘girly’?

We got ds a boy baby doll and a buggy when he was a toddler

user7654321 · 01/01/2018 14:52

Of course! I can just get him a boy doll - thanks!

We got my daughter some dolls by a company called Rubens Barn. They're soft, they have different styles, and the baby ones are weighted to feel like real babies.

FuzzyPenguin · 01/01/2018 14:57

My DS has the my first baby Annabelle which he loves. It’s holding up well and gets taken most places, soft bodied so good for snuggles in bed as well. It does come in pink but I think they do a brother version which is blue.
There are plenty of none girlie buggies on eBay but can’t really comment on those since DS insists that “Fifi” needs the sheep things (basically the baby Annabell logo) and all that is pink.

AuntLydia · 01/01/2018 14:57

I don't suppose at the age of 20 months he'll care if the doll and accessories are pink or blue, male or female, so I'd just go for whatever is the best value for money or has the accessories he is most likely to play with. Something soft might be nice at that age.

IceBearRocks · 01/01/2018 15:01

Maybe he wants a baby girl rather than a boy !???

dobbythedoggy · 01/01/2018 15:03

We got ds a ruben's barn cutie. His 21 months and it's just the right size for him and really nice to cuddle.

Dd got a ruben's barn baby, which she loves to bits. Ds likes the look of it, but it's a bit too heavy for him at the moment.

Ruben's are lovely quality and go in the washing machien too!

We just got a bog standard non- anatomically correct one and I swapped the garish pink clothes (mostly because they were hurting my eyes) for white babygros from Asda's prem range (cheaper and nicer than real dolls' clothes)

KurriKurri · 01/01/2018 15:45

Can't think why anyone would think you were unreasonable for buying your little boy a doll.
As he's only 20mnths, i would suggest a softish one as they are easier to manipulate if he wants to have a go at getting it in and out of it's clothes.

These ELC ones are sweet and are for 18mnths+

baby dolls

Of course you can- if you don’t mind him catching the gay.

I bought my dd a garage with cars. Now she’ll only wear dungarees, wants her hair cut short, and will only answer to geoff.

What do you think will happen to your son if you buy him a doll? He might grow up to be a father?

steff13 · 01/01/2018 15:56

I wouldn't buy my baby girl a doll, so...

That was my feeling; I find dolls terrifying. Unfortunately, I gave birth to a little girl who loves them.

KurriKurri · 01/01/2018 15:57

Why is that Pengggwn - do you not approve of pretend play and children developing their cognitive abilities ?

NotAgainYoda · 01/01/2018 16:04

My DS2 loved dolls
DS1 used to put a Thomas the Tank Engine in his little buggy

Ha, at nursery they only have the scary scrawny newborn dolls which are invariably naked as the DC love undressing them

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 01/01/2018 16:07

If you can see Iil lady buggies on ebay they are fab. I loved mine. Non gender coded colours. The 80s were fab

Aftereights91 · 01/01/2018 16:11

Ours is 19 months and has a doll in blue clothes and a bright pink buggy. It doesn't match but he likes it so I don't care.

60sname · 01/01/2018 16:12

Oh and we just got DS a toy pushchair from the Argos My Little Pony range which come in purple and blue as well as pink

Inkstainedmags · 01/01/2018 16:17

Thank you for reminding me how much my now-20-month old loved playing with his cousin's doll and pushchair in the summer and that I meant to get same for him.

rainbowduck · 01/01/2018 16:18

We have newborn dolls from Smyths. One of each gender. I also have a boy doll that pees.

bonzo77 · 01/01/2018 16:20

I bought DS, then 2.5, a baby annabel complete with pink baby grow and for some reason a pink doctors kit. And he chose a bright pink hello kitty push chair for it. 5 years later it’s all going strong and has been well played with by DS2 and now DS3. I think they all find the bright pink quite appealing, I certainly like it!

JordanMcDeere · 01/01/2018 16:25

We gave my 2 year old a Ruben's Barn Max for his birthday. He absolutely loves it & they fit newborn clothes which is a bonus.
