To think a lot of people are just plain weird?

The more I read on MN, the more I think lots of people are just plain weird.

froginapond · 31/12/2017 17:13

This thread is weird. Grin

crunchymint · 31/12/2017 17:16

I don't care if people are weird, I just hadn't realised that so many people were.

MissionItsPossible · 31/12/2017 17:17

Yes it is extremes! Like it is on Facebook, Twitter or the likes. People post (truthfully or not) heatedly in the moment and get replies in a subsequent manner but just take it fictionally Smile Are you expected to believe that someone that temporarily blocked you from an aisle in a supermarket warrants a ten page thread or just treat it as fun. Maybe I'm the weird one? I thought most of the threads in AIBU were fake and funny Confused Obviously not the sad ones or ones asking for help

crunchymint · 31/12/2017 17:21

Maybe that is the problem, I am taking what people say too seriously??

OP posts:
treaclesoda · 31/12/2017 17:22

I think everyone has their quirks and I'm sure there are things I do that people think are strange.

But there are some things I've come across where I just can't fathom why people do them.

CassandraCross · 31/12/2017 17:22

There doesn't seem to be much of a middle ground on MN which is where I think the overwhelming majority of people are, it isn't an accurate reflection of people in general.

I don't believe 80% of the things posted on here, a number of people post for herd approval and to be seen and welcomed into that particular herd, another set of people post for herd disapproval because they want to be seen as not part of that herd and want to stand out or be in another herd.

StaplesCorner · 31/12/2017 17:24

Glad its not just me with the food then ... oh hang on ... yes, I am indeed WEIRD.

clumsyduck · 31/12/2017 17:25

😂😂

Yeh I agree doesn't seem a middle ground but also reckon a lot of people online just talk shite and are probably more normal in real life

crunchymint · 31/12/2017 17:25

cassandra That is what I was getting at, the lack of a middle ground on so many threads. And yes I think most people in real life are in the middle as well.

OP posts:
MissionItsPossible · 31/12/2017 17:27

Don't know about in real life crunchy, but from what it sounds, yes from MN/online

Sparklingbrook · 31/12/2017 17:31

The thing is if everything was normal you wouldn't post an AIBU thread about it would you?

Of course I am joking about £300 a week. That is £30 a day, masses of money.

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 31/12/2017 17:34

So many people on-line talk shite.

People in RL talk shite too.

These are different people to the weird people. Weird is fine. Weird and exaggerating are not the same thing.

HolgerDanske · 31/12/2017 17:34

Yes thére are a lot of weird people. And no, it’s not good that ‘weird’ has been misappropriated as some kind of positive thing. Being slightly different or odd or marching to the beat of your own drum is fine, of course, but many things are weird and should remain classified as seriously not ok.

The problem with the internet is that the truly weird people all find each other and their feel-good communities where they all support each other’s weirdness makes them think they’re just fine and normal.

Haven’t RTFT, my comment is in response to the OP only.

Grin I can remember reading about people on here eating crackers that cost £12 a packet.Maybe they are buying all stuff like that?

OP posts:
Lovemusic33 · 31/12/2017 17:43

I often think I’m weird after reading threads on here.

I leave my kids in the car when I buy Petrol (apparently peo0e take their kids into the garage with them to pay?).

I buy my kids more than 3 Christmas presents.

My kids eat chicken nuggets, pizza and have the odd fripuit shoot (they don’t eat lentils).

I change my sheets whenever I remember too (every couple of weeks) and towels get washed when I have space in the machine.

MissionItsPossible · 31/12/2017 17:44

😶😶

I like the hypocrisy posts. I posted an AIBU and it involved my bf in an argument calling me a cunt. People said how wrong it was for him to call me that and how mean he was while they themselves called him a nasty cunt or a horrible cunt or other variations (not that I blamed them at the time)!

I'm genuinely confused now. Is it real? I know most threads are but the outlandish ones like this thread is talking about..? I assumed they were fake

CassandraCross · 31/12/2017 17:56

That's true Sparkling but there then there is either an acceptance that this extreme is normal, or a rush to out extreme the already extreme whilst middle roaders, like me, are reading with a wtf expression.

Most threads on AIBU read like the MN equivalent of Monty Python's Four Yorkshire Men Sketch.

MonumentalAlabaster · 31/12/2017 17:58

It was reading a really weird thread with very high quality witty responses that made me sign up to MN - I thought, why would I miss out on this level of entertainment? I can still remember it - the OP was very disconcerted because a man had offered to cut her pubic hair and then eaten it and she wanted to know if this was normal? The replies had me weak with helpless laughter

Sparklingbrook · 31/12/2017 17:59

TBH I read most threads on MN with a WTF expression. Grin Some threads should be left as a thought in your head. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 31/12/2017 18:00

Monumental that sounds like a 'report and hide' thread. Bleurgh.

MonumentalAlabaster · 31/12/2017 18:01

Sparklingbrook I don't know what that means?

CassandraCross · 31/12/2017 18:01

Indeed Sparklingbrook, indeedGrin.
