DH dreamed we divorced

Boxhike · 31/12/2017 09:28

DH told me last night about the really vivid dream he had the previous night, I thought it was going to be some normal dream.
He said he dreamt we had divorced and he was due to re-marry someone else but that fell through so rather than cancel that wedding he decided we should re-marry, he suddenly felt guilty in his dream because it meant his family would have to travel and make an effort to come to our wedding again.
I was a bit shocked this was going through his head as we have been having a few issues. We watched an episode of the crown and I went straight to bed as I just didn't like hearing that dream being told so casually. Am I over reacting?

OP posts:

DH once had a dream where he suffocated me because I was terminally ill! You can't be offended by what someone dreams!

Boynamedsue · 31/12/2017 19:02

Definitely over reacting. Last night I dreamed that I was married to Harry Styles and he'd hired a private detective who had discovered I was having an affair. I am not having an affair nor am I married to Harry Styles. It was just a dream.

bobstersmum · 31/12/2017 19:07

It's a dream. Nothing more.
I dreamed I had a threesome with ant and dec! Now where did that come from...

1moremum · 31/12/2017 19:11

I think if anything, that the ultimate solution to the crisis in the dream was to marry you, is a GOOD thing. His subconscious considered and rejected divorce.

mumonashoestring · 31/12/2017 19:12

scottishdiem better that than an ambulatory anal polyp.

Yep it's an overreaction but it's a completely understandable one. Your DH has no more control over his dream than I did over the one I had about my DH joining Bon Jovi and abandoning me on the side of an American dirt road by driving off in a car full of Uruk Hai to his next gig. I was bloody furious with him when I woke up Grin

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 31/12/2017 19:17

I was woken up by DH hitting and kicking me. He was dreaming he was fighting with hippos in overalls!

EB123 · 31/12/2017 19:20

YABU

Two nights ago I dreamt that DH left me and took the children away from me. I have no idea where it came from!

x2boys · 31/12/2017 19:24

My mum was telling me about a dream she had where she too her brother to the canteen at British gas where she worked and he really enjoyed the food she left British gas over 20 years ago on early retirement Confused

x2boys · 31/12/2017 19:26

Dh once woke me up to ask me if it was him i loved or his yellow car we have been together 13 years and hes never had a yellow carHmm

AFistfulOfDolores · 31/12/2017 19:29

OP, adults' dreams are usually not straight-forward (whereas children's tend to be moreso). Usually, a dream will refer to an inner process, and not something happening in the dreamer's outer life. What happens is that the unconscious uses a dreamer's life (called the "dream day") in order to convey a deeper message. In other words, most dreams are, essentially, metaphorical, but draw on convenient people/places/things to put their point across. The dream content will be entirely personal, though, so the best person to be able to interpret the dream will be your DH. There are some great techniques out there to do this.

AFistfulOfDolores · 31/12/2017 19:31

Also, dreams can be compensatory in nature, where they attempt to redress an imbalance in waking life. Dreams of 'divorce' might simply be a disguised wish to have some simple alone time - which might be entirely feasible at this time of year when we are all thrown together, without routine, for lengthy periods.

OutingMyself · 31/12/2017 19:34

I once dreamed that my husband grew a pair of large breasts by a magic spell gone wrong. Then he refused to get rid of them because he was enjoying feeling himself up so much. I was really angry that I'd have to be married to a man with breasts and it wasn't what I'd signed up for.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 31/12/2017 19:36

I had a recurring dream that I cheated on DH... with DH. How vanilla am I Grin

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 31/12/2017 19:38

x2boys BTW the food in the British Gas canteen is really good. Still miss their chilli and chips.

WunWun · 31/12/2017 19:39

I don't think I've ever had a nice dream about DH. He is always up to no good, cheating on me or telling me he doesn't want to live with me any more.

Willswife · 31/12/2017 19:47

I've never told anyone this as it fills me with horror every time it pops into my head (not very often thankfully).

I dreamt that I had sex with my brother!

I love him dearly but I wish I had never gone to sleep that night.

WunWun · 31/12/2017 19:55

That is pretty horrifying!

MissWilmottsGhost · 31/12/2017 20:07

Meh. I have sex with everyone in dreams Hmm

Anyway.

OP, your DHs dream sounds a bit like my moving house dreams where the new house is horrible and I wonder why the fuck I wanted to move and wish I had stayed put. I wake up feeling pretty glad I am still in my little terrace and not some massive warehouse full of crocodiles or whatever.

He dreamed it was a mistake he had got divorced and felt bad for putting everyone through all the trouble when he realised he wanted to be married to you again. Aww, sweet Smile

I just don't tell DH about my dreams Blush

AlexaAmbidextra · 31/12/2017 20:10

Oh ffs. I once shagged John Major in a dream. I wouldn't in RL if he was the last man on earth. Shock

ASDismynormality · 31/12/2017 20:14

YABU as it's only a dream but
I once dreamt that my DH had an affair with my friends adult son, I was so cross with him the next day even though it was only a dream!

x2boys · 31/12/2017 20:16

My mum would agree with you Jesus Grin

XmasStartsInNovember · 31/12/2017 21:39

I have loads of weird dreams. I once dreamt that I was shagging Micheal Jackson at the top of a half built tower block, but it was a little bit too vigorous and we fell off. Then I turned into a flying doulphin.
I talk in my sleep as well, it amuses dp no end.

Thursdaydreaming · 31/12/2017 21:42

I had a dream this week that I had a bucket of dead mice in my house, I asked DH to get rid of it for me. He refused and we ended up divorcing over it.

daisychain01 · 31/12/2017 21:47

I'm going against the grain here, I don't think you are over reacting OP. I think it was mean and insensitive of your DH to tell you about a dream that could not be resolved or explained. It's just a bit of a shit thing to do.

I'm a prolific dreamer, and remember all the details very clearly. I've never dreamt that I was divorcing DH, but if I had, I'd never let him know. What would it achieve apart from being a negative on our day. I'd just forget about it.

ForagingForFaerieGold · 31/12/2017 22:02

I often dream I have conversations with my cat. He's quite erudite lol.
Until he turned into a horse once.

I don't like horses.

Last night I was kidnapped by Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I was in the back of his sunlight proof car. Very weird.
I have a lot of weird dreams. My mother features in far too many of them Hmm
