I am actually a complete idiot. This week I've managed to bin 3 iTunes vouchers to the value of £75 and my marriage certificate! I've been putting so much rubbish out and I think I binned them by accident with everything else. I'm so angry at myself. What stupid things have you all done like this? I just need to know I'm not alone in my idiocy!

A diamond bangle my grandparents gave me for my 18th birthday. That was years ago and I'm still annoyed Sad

Middle child’s birth certificate. I was very flustered, had builders in and a newborn DS3. Felt soooo guilty about the whole middle child thing at the time.

My husband threw away my locking wheel nut, looked everywhere!
Cost £100 to replace, which I couldn't afford at the time.

He also lost over £1000 cash in an envelope while getting back from bank, still don't know what happened.
Xmas Confused

My favourite dress and DS1's new clothes.

Meadowflowers · 30/12/2017 17:11

Wow. These are making me feel not just as bad. I'm normally so good with paperwork. So do I replace the iTunes vouchers for the kids? I guess I should seeing as it was my fault.

Honestly. Depends how much they'd miss them? I know you've told them about the vouchers now, but are they really bothered with all the other stuff they've had for Christmas?

AgathaMystery · 30/12/2017 17:15

Well if someone threw out your £75 gift wouldn't you quite like it back?

AgathaMystery · 30/12/2017 17:15

Also if you have the receipt with the number on can you ring and get them cancelled and get new ones?

TheweewitchRoz · 30/12/2017 17:28

My £1000 Tag Heuer watch that I bought myself for my 30th birthday - I was so proud of it & myself for being able to afford it & then I lost it (threw it in the bin by accident when clearing up) so it taught me a valuable lesson (pride comes before a fall & all that Blush) & I've made a conscious effort since not to be bothered by / proud of stuff!

Glastonbury Tickets.

Rednailsandnaeknickers · 30/12/2017 17:35

Ohhh @flippyflapper I read yours and winced. Your poor Mum. That must really hurt.

Bisquitine · 30/12/2017 17:41

Sorting through FIL's papers and made a pile for keeping and a pile for recycling. Heard the bin lorry coming and you can guess the rest. So annoyed with myself, lost irreplaceable family photos.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 30/12/2017 17:50

My bag of best clothes. Recently moved and they were in a bin bag.got mixed up with a bag of rubbish. But if a shock when I went to put them away.

me too - that was awful. Your poor mum.

I threw away a 1990’s vanity case full, and I mean crammed full of vintage Pippa dolls and clothes and accessories.

I wept a few years later when I opened my duplicate case containing old clothes I’d sorted for the tip....

This was 15 years ago and the contents would have been worth about £900 in today’s markets.

Ouch.

Live and learn to check what goes out.

movingtowardsthelight · 30/12/2017 17:58

Another one that makes my eyes water is my dad, who stored a small cash stash in an old sock in his drawer.

He had a clear out and binned his old socks to make room for new socks. Along with an eye watering £5k.

His memory isn’t what it was. I’m left wondering how much money actually gets thrown away inadvertently.

MrsExpo · 30/12/2017 17:58

I threw away my birth certificate during a recent clear out. Had to apply for a duplicate.

thisismadness77 · 30/12/2017 17:59

$50 dollars this Christmas. A present.

Meadowflowers · 30/12/2017 18:00

Well it was £25 each for the 3 dc. I'm gonna replace them.

All the wrapped Christmas presents... two days before Xmas.. not just thrown away but actually took them to the tip!

UAEMum · 30/12/2017 18:01

I threw away my husbands wedding ring with a plastic bag recently. Only realised after the bin man had been 😭

MargaretCabbage · 30/12/2017 18:05

I once accused DH of throwing out some sentimental teddy bears from my childhood. He went rummaging through four communal wheelie bins in the rain and dark, after Christmas when they were completely full.

I found them in the wardrobe. Blush

I threw out my brand new, unopened teeth bleaching kit/moulds worth £300 years ago at Christmas, along with the turkey carcass, beer bottles etc. Found them after hours going through black bin sacks, which was delightful.

LaurieMarlow · 30/12/2017 18:13

When I was a teenager, my mum threw my brace in the fire by mistake. By the time we realised it was reduced to a sad pile of wires.

She was devastated at how much she had to pay to replace it.
