to assume if I fancy someone they fancy me?

Is this weird? Does anyone else feel the same? If I come to the realisation that I quite fancy someone, I basically presume they also fancy me. I put it down to finding people who don't fancy me distinctly unattractive. AIBU - is it all in my head? - or is this a reasonable assumption? Just me......?!??? Grin

ProTip: Don't fixate on people who don't reciprocate your feelings!

YABU.

YABU, yes.

Although I am probably equally unreasonable in that I always assumed the object of my interest would never fancy me back. Not always correctly.

What a nice idea...but there would be no such thing as unrequited love, a crush, a sex pest or a sexual predator if it were true. Maybe it works out for you because your standards are particularly low OP or are you all things to all people in the attractiveness stakes (not sure how that would work tbh)?

I wish. In my experience the opposite tends to be true.

Gwenhwyfar · 29/12/2017 15:39

ILooked - I actually don't really believe in unrequited love outside of a relationship, it's usually just an infatuation.

It definitely doesn't work like this. I have certainly not always fancied people who have fancied me, despite their protestations that I must be playing hard to get or leading them on, as I'd been giving them "all the signs" Confused

Granted I was younger then, and perhaps naive in my friendliness. These days I have so many reasons for not wanting any trouble, I assume everyone fancies me and treat them all with equal defensive distain until we know each other well. And I mean very well - we're talking years of barely concealed contempt here. Better safe than sorry.
