I'm running out of ideas! Is going to be just us, the family, four in total. I'm craving for something fancy, a bit especial, different but don't know what to do apart from a nice meal and movies. Please share your thoughts or ideas for this "party time". No family or friend nearby!

What ages are the kids?

DreamyMcDreamy · 29/12/2017 01:12

Since having kids and not doing the whole "going out and partying thing" we've always stayed in, got a takeaway, watched a film and then to bed as normal.Although 14 year old stays up falls asleep on the sofa until I wake him up for the bongs at midnight.

Father Christmas bought DD a karaoke microphone that Bluetooth's to our phone playlists. I think we're going to do a lot of karaoke!

wanderlust99 · 29/12/2017 01:15

Absolutely nothing, didn't know it was a thing!

RedPandaMama · 29/12/2017 01:19

First one with the baby (4mo) so spending it at my parents. There will be me, DP, DD, grandparents, DM, DF and DSis. DM usually does a 3 course meal (lovely) then telly, snacks and fireworks. Nice and chilled.

Eatalot · 29/12/2017 01:21

Many pubs and hotels do nights where kids are welcome. Depends on budget but often has food thrown in or fancy dress.

Littlelambpeep · 29/12/2017 01:22

We have it at home but go for a nice meal in a restaurant on new years day. That way miss the crowd and still feel we have marked it

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 29/12/2017 01:26

We don't drink alcohol so NYE has always been a funny one for us. Our friends would like us to go with them to one of their houses or somthing but we are staying in. We went last year to a gathering and found it dreadful really....everyone getting smashed and all that. We're all in our late 40s and it seems somehow weird to still be doing that.

LuluJakey1 · 29/12/2017 01:29

DS3, DD8months. We are staying in just the two of us and hoping the two of them are asleep so we can have a night that is for us.

TheMadGardener · 29/12/2017 01:32

Having had tons of family round for Christmas, we always do New Year''s Eve just us. Watch Big Ben on TV, have a glass of champagne, a New Year's kiss, watch fireworks and go to bed. Nice and peaceful.

monicabling · 29/12/2017 01:33

Usually spend it with my friend who has 2DC one of whom is a mutual friend of DS(12) but her DC will be at their dads this year. So DS doesn't want to go. Looks like it will be just us two. Not really sure what we can do that we don't do at weekends anyway :/ Will watch thread for ideas :)

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 29/12/2017 02:31

Mon you don't actually have to do anything. Watch tv and eat chocolate!

btfly2 · 29/12/2017 16:23

Yes, true. Nice and peaceful is one the options but for some reason I always get the feeling that if you don't mark the occasion you are "missing out something" Old silly me! I have to learn to relax!

We will be at dp mums family home an hour away for nye. Staying over. I was bored there last year and no fucking nice food cos all the local shops in the village had closed stupidly early.Angry
Heading to tescos for shopping now and plan on buying some party food to take down with us and make hopefully we can make it a bit more lively this year.
All the relations we are staying with are elderly so no mad partying.

Hairgician · 29/12/2017 16:32

Plus am currently pg so no alcohol for me.😣

Natsku · 29/12/2017 16:36

What we always do, which is board games and drinks (though no drinking for me this year as pregnant), fireworks and fortune telling with melted lead. Sometimes we do the fireworks at FIL's and sometimes down at the beach, not sure which we'll do this year.

IHaveACuntingPlan · 29/12/2017 16:36

Dh won a £30 asda gift card and some love2shop vouchers from work so we have used that to buy extra food and will have a party at home with our dc. We will put the spinny-round coloured bulb in the dining room, turn the radio up and have a dance. At about 9pm we'll do a countdown, play a video of the fireworks and auld lang syne before sending them to bed. After that, we'll have a bit of a drink, stay up to watch the bells and real fireworks and then go to bed. Such paaaarty animals!

passmethewineplease · 29/12/2017 16:37

We don't do anything here. Just me and DP, kids asleep. Will watch a film and have a quick snog at midnigh. Grin

Mulberry72 · 29/12/2017 16:46

We’re away for New Year, DH, DS(11) and I. We go up to the Lake District and rent a tiny little cottage with an open fire and it’s heaven to escape the madness of Christmas. The village we stay in is literally one street and a pub. We get a cab into the next town along on NYE and go to a lovely little tapas place for dinner, then get back about 11pm, get in our PJ’s and watch Jools Holland till 12 and then off to bed.

We’ve done this the past 3 years and thoroughly recommend it Xmas Smile

speakout · 29/12/2017 16:49

Nothing.

I can't stand Hogmanay.

TheNaze73 · 29/12/2017 16:49

Going out with about 30 others & getting on it from 4pm

ClaryFray · 29/12/2017 16:50

We're going out for Chinese at about half 7, to celebrate our engagement with my family and DS 8. Then I intend to be asleep at midnight!

BulletFox · 29/12/2017 16:52

Oh god, as little as possible.

I hate pubs, am in a new town where I didn't know anyone before I moved recently (can't even remember when now, maybe 2/3 weeks ago), have befriended two of the neighbours and the owner of the local art gallery, think I'll spend it with my neighbour as long as he doesn't drag me to a pub for the entire evening

Loonoonow · 29/12/2017 16:55

Going to a cousin's new holiday home with a small group of family. I am dreading it as I cannot bear the cousin who is snippy, grabby and stingy. I will fill my bag with snacks and the car boot with champagne and if she is a total mare I will retire to my room and read my Kindle. OH - except I can't. She told us a day or two ago that there aren't rooms or beds for everyone she has invited so we will have to bring our own bedding and sleep on sofas or the floor. I am nearly 60. Too old for that shit.
