To think these people are fraudsters?

I've sent out over 150 orders in the last month. Three have come back and complained / raised PayPal disputes that they didn't receive it. I've traced that all have been signed for at their property and I've followed up all with numerous emails. Two haven't even replied and one has replied and not answered any of my questions and just repeated that they don't have it.

They are almost certainly trying it on right? I'm doing my best to resolve them and they don't even want to communicate with me

If you have proof of delivery then they are obviously trying it on

harrietsoton · 28/12/2017 10:18

If they have been signed for then add the tracking details to the PayPal dispute and that will be the end of it

Battleax · 28/12/2017 10:20

Maybe but not definitely. I've had couriers and the postman sign for items "for me" before sticking them somewhere bizarre before, including one occasion where it was nowhere to be found.

insancerre · 28/12/2017 10:23

There's a woman on our local Facebook group looking for a list parcel
She has a text saying it was delivered and signed for by a name at a house number
She can't find them

I think some delivery drivers are the fraudsters

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 28/12/2017 10:23

I had to complain about my postman repeatedly signing for my items himself and leaving them on my doorstep. When they inevitably went missing I had no recourse to claim back for them at all.

WhiskeySourpuss · 28/12/2017 10:23

I've had a delivery where the courier had signed my name & left the parcel on my doorstep - anyone could have walked off with it/it been destroyed by the weather in the 6 hours that it was lying there so it's not beyond the realms of possibility that they haven't received the item.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 28/12/2017 10:24

Yeah, I've had this. EBay are now ignoring me and have deleted my dispute. I sold an item and they refunded the buyer on no evidence. He says he posted it back but didn't. They don't want to know.

IdaDown · 28/12/2017 10:32

I had an ebay package not arrive but when the seller and myself checked Royal Mail tracking, it first said ‘delivered to neighbour’ then changed to ‘signed for’.

I didn’t recieve it, neither did any of my 6 neighbours.

I think it wasn’t delivered to my village at all as we’ve had the same posties for over 10 years. Can’t imagine my more mature neighbours would keep hold of what I ordered.

So, yes, sometimes things go missing.

Luckily my seller was fantastic and once she got a refund from RM she split it with me.

ChelleDawg2020 · 28/12/2017 10:33

A signature doesn't prove that they received it. I've had packages "signed" by me that certainly were not signed for by my - they turned up in my wheelie bin, which fortunately I noticed before it was emptied.

Ultimately the seller is responsible for the package until the customer receives it. It is up to the seller to prove that the customer has received it, which is impossible given that you cannot rely on a signature alone.

Depending on what courier you use, 147/150 successful deliveries is a pretty good strike rate - if you cannot swallow a loss on the other three, perhaps you should insist on using insured deliveries.

Glumglowworm · 28/12/2017 10:50

The fact that they’ve stopped responding to your emails once you’ve said you have proof of delivery strongly suggests they’re lying

If the genuinely hadn’t received it they would’ve come back to you and said one of the various things given in this thread as a reason why it appears signed for but actually isn’t delivered

Independentstateofeyebrows · 28/12/2017 10:54

A signature doesn't prove that they received it
This. My exam certificate never materialised, having been signed for by someone (not me) with an indecipherable signature and therefore untraceable. Not the sender's responsibility because they had proof of posting; not RM's responsibility because it had been signed for.

goldengimbas · 28/12/2017 10:56

I had two buyers from the same town (obviously knew each other) that said they had received the wrong item. I knew they hadn't as I always get someone to double check before they are send and one was a lot heavier them the other so different postage. They must have got together and bid on two items between them on my page and then swapped them, contacted me with pictures to say they had not received the right item and wanted a refund.
I presented all the evidence to eBay and yet eBay found in their favour. I dread to think how often they have pulled this stunt

Tanith · 28/12/2017 11:01

There's a family on our estate who now have to go down to the main post office and sign for their parcels because they pulled this scam so often that no delivery driver will go to their address.

ragged · 28/12/2017 11:04

How much did they pay for the items, OP, including delivery?

Ofalltheginjoints · 28/12/2017 11:22

Things can go missing, Yodel have lost two packages for me from early December apparently they were delivered and signed for by the building manager, however it wasn’t his signature and he invited me into the post room to look for them (he delivers everyone’s parcels to their doors) 3 complaints to Yodel and no response other then it was signed for, I don’t have the items and the building manager doesn’t but Yodel don’t care. Luckily though the items were from a major international company who completed the order again and used a different delivery firm.

It does sound in your situation that the buyers are trying it on, why would you go silent when told about proof of postage? Hopefully paypal will be able to resolve this for you

ohreallyohreallyoh · 28/12/2017 11:37

Recently had a very expensive item not turn up. When I checked online at 12, I had apparently signed for it at 10:30. Long story short, it had been left on the neighbour’s doorstep and driver signed it himself., A signature means nothing.

PippilottaLongstocking · 28/12/2017 12:01

@IdaDown the seller got a refund from RM and split it with you? So she had your money AND half of that refund? Or she refunded you and also gave you half of the refund from RM?

Idreamofalandrover · 28/12/2017 13:20

I know it can happen, but the ignoring my mails is what makes me very suspicious, why wouldn't you say something back? I think they think PayPal will refund it automatically

Spartaca · 28/12/2017 13:41

I had this with an eBay seller...she sent something not signed for but recorded. Tracking said delivered to us or a neighbour, but we only have one neighbour and neither of us had it! It would be of no use to them so they wouldn't have nicked it. Seller was quite arsey and implying I was pulling a fast one, was no help at all. Escalated through eBay and they found in her favour as the tracking said delivered. So fucked off.

Idreamofalandrover · 28/12/2017 13:50

Didn't PayPal refund you?

OP posts:
IdaDown · 28/12/2017 23:00

Pippi - I presume half the RM refund. So yes, she got my money for the ebay transaction plus half the RM refund. I got half my money back.

I was grateful for the partial refund. Didn’t quite appreciate the extra bonus on top for her...

frieswitheverything · 28/12/2017 23:03

I've had things Marked as signed for which I 100% haven't got. The delivery drivers sign for it. They should be done for fraud for that.

missiondecision · 28/12/2017 23:11

I had parcels that the post/courier signed for me when I was out, could hav easily kept them.
I’d not assume they are trying it on.
I also had a parcel go missing this month

SockUnicorn · 29/12/2017 00:32

@Idreamofalandrover I have this problem so much when selling on ebay. Not so much on Etsy oddly. However I find this works...

Send them an email saying "Hi, so sorry for the missing item. Please can you just check with everyone else in the house and your neighbours to make sure it hasnt been left. Failing that, I have been in touch with royal mail and they want to investigate as the item was tracked. Please reply with a message stating you have not received your item, your phone number (for them to contact you on) and todays date. This will then be forwarded to them and the case can open. They will contact you and send out a rep to show where the parcel was delivered or left. Please let me know if a neighbour has it in the meantime and I can cancel the case. Thanks".

Its amazing how many shit themselves at it becoming formal and the postie coming to their door or ringing them. They suddenly find them. Failing this let them open it with paypal - you win the case if its tracked and signed for.

Idreamofalandrover · 29/12/2017 15:43

Oh I really like that sock, could I get in any trouble for saying a white lie like that?

Do you send something similar for international customers?
