AIBU to suggest that eating turkey results on acrid farts?

Our whole family has been farting merrily and filling every corner of the house with acrid bottom fumes for the past 8 hours. Was it the turkey?

You have? I tend to train children not to and would never spend time with grown ups who do.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 26/12/2017 15:31

Are UBU?

Presuming you are not a 6 yr old boy laughing at bum/fart jokes, yes.

Grow up.

dancinfeet · 26/12/2017 15:36

stuffing and sprouts mostly cause this, I would say!

LockedOutOfMN · 26/12/2017 16:20

How do you train children not to fart? Shock

How do you train children not to fart?

You can't but you can teach them the basic manners of not farting in front of others.

paxillin · 26/12/2017 16:28

Same way you train them not to shit on the sofa.

Grilledaubergines · 26/12/2017 16:40

I was windy all day yesterday. If I had to be in the loo every time I trumped, I may as well have taken root in there because they weren't intentional, they just happened with no prior warning. I'm not in the habit of farting in company but was quite unlucky yesterday.

Rebeccaslicker · 26/12/2017 17:05

I have never been so glad to be vegetarian.

Vegetarian food never made anyone fart, ever.......

UniversalAunt · 26/12/2017 17:35

Unlikely the turkey, more the onions & garlic (stuffing & gravies), bread sauce, sprouts, peas, cabbages various - all at once, more than usual & padded up with chocs, dates&figs, xmas pud & rich wines. Not even including fizzy lagers & soft drinks.

FODMAP foods, best for added bloat & winds - www.ibsdiets.org/fodmap-diet/fodmap-food-list/

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 26/12/2017 17:41

Vegetarian food doesn't make you fart? Really? You've obviously never eaten a red lentil, onion and garlic cheesy bake then 💨💨💨

TheWhyteRoseShallRiseAgain · 26/12/2017 18:11

This is my first totally veggie Christmas and surprisingly I'm the least noxious person in our house so the turkey is definitely a contender!

DearTeddyRobinson · 26/12/2017 18:18

It's definitely turkey, turkey farts are A Thing in our family. Another good friend refers to RDB (roast dinner botty).

Rebeccaslicker · 26/12/2017 19:11

Ha, fabulously, I was being silly/sarcastic. Although it's never actually affected me that way, I once made a soya bean chilli for my flatmate and she was farting so badly she had to take the next day off work Blush

Rebeccaslicker · 26/12/2017 19:15

( but that bake sounds delicious!! )

PickAChew · 26/12/2017 19:19

I had a flatmate who was veggie. Their chickpea farts were eyewatering.

Rebeccaslicker · 26/12/2017 19:23

You didn't get it from Tesco finest did you?

StickyProblem · 26/12/2017 19:50

For me it's the chocolate. After a few days I get sick of the gas and stop eating it.

LockedOutOfMN · 26/12/2017 22:10

Rebeccaslicker Our turkey was from the butcher, I'm afraid. Not one of Tesco's victims.

Exactly this, for all of the adults in our family.

But you know in advance when you're going to defecate. Farts just pop out of their own accord.

I farted in the walk in shower and there was nowhere for me or it to go and I almost gagged

BarryTheKestrel · 26/12/2017 22:16

In my case it's always the broccoli. But any other component of the roast dinner could easily be to blame.

kaytee87 · 26/12/2017 23:26

Farts just pop out of their own accord.

Do they?? Shock mine don't.

I'm not squeamish about bodily functions but you've painted a pretty disgusting picture of you all sitting in a smelly room deliberately farting in it repeatedly Envy

TheNaze73 · 26/12/2017 23:32

Turkey eaters are the cause of the chorus of bronx cheers.

Blaming the brussel sprouts, is a low and callous act

HoneyBeeMum1 · 26/12/2017 23:59

It is ridiculous to suggest that children can be taught not to fart. Even to hold it in is an unreasonable expectation for more more than a short time.

The unpleasant truth is that it eventually has to come out and the longer you have held it in, the more noxious it will be when you let it out.

That applies to everyone, even the most fragrant and dainty Mumsnet contributors.

The best you can hope is to let it out quietly and blame the Dog.
