Taking the tree down!

Elsouth · 25/12/2017 19:28

Is it wrong to consider taking the tree down tomorrow? When is everyone else doing it?? I think last year I did it just after Boxing Day. As the kids get older the presents seem to get bigger and I end up having to rearrange the whole room. Need that tree gone. Does that make me a grinch?

There's some very inflexible thinking / lack of understanding going on here.

Many of us don't give a shit about the 12 sodding days of Christmas; it's not something we care about. Therefore, we will do Christmas decorating our own way, whilst being quite happy for others to do it their way. I'm not so sure why the 12th nighters are so bothered about other people doing it differently to them. It's baffling!

StolenPumpkins · 28/12/2017 22:05

The people taking their trees down on Boxing Day (or even Christmas Day evening as on this thread) are simply ignorant fools.
Hmm I'm not an ignorant fool, I know the 12 days of Christmas and the traditions around that, but my way works best for me so I've adapted how I celebrate. I'm not sure why your being so rude, how other people celebrate doesn't effect you.

DownstairsMixUp · 28/12/2017 22:06

New Year’s Day for us. I like it up for nye then fresh start for new year

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy Haha I try...Xmas Wink

I know about the 12 days of Christmas, I just don't set that much store by it, and take the tree and decs down on the 27th most years, occasionally the 28th, but no later.

I like everything away well before DS1s birthday at the beginning of January, so there's clear definition between the two.

StarlightMcKenzee · 28/12/2017 22:19

12 days of Christmas innit!?? If you wanna put your tree up super early and then take it down the day the shops can no longer sell you stuff then you've lost the point of Christmas.

GladAllOver · 28/12/2017 22:24

Most people put their decorations up far too early, so it's not surprising they get fed up with them before twelfth night.

StarlightMcKenzee · 28/12/2017 22:27

Also, - our kids don't get stuff throughout the year so they get quite a bit for Christmas. They play with their things as and when they open them so there are presents under the tree for most of the 12 days anyway.

PasstheStarmix · 28/12/2017 22:32

StarlightMcKenzee what we'll behaved kids you have? I'm surprised they don't dive in and open them all Shock

PasstheStarmix · 28/12/2017 22:32

well

PasstheStarmix · 28/12/2017 22:34

What some people class as early others would class as late, I'd hate to wait until mid-late December to put my decs up. I like them up first weekend of December as the build up is the best part to me.

juliesaway · 28/12/2017 22:35

I don’t know why people bother to celebrate Christmas at all, if they don’t even know what they are celebrating and when. Why even bother with it ? Seems bizarre to me.

Parker231 · 28/12/2017 22:45

Juliesaway - if we can’t start celebrating Christmas until 25 December, when can we go to the school nativity, have secret Santa’s at work, go to the works Christmas parties, organize the food and drinks, wrap Christmas presents, get out the Christmas Eve box, go to see Father Christmas?

juliesaway · 28/12/2017 22:48

The point is, these are all pre-Christmas celebrations, not Christmas Celebrations. You can still have pre-Christmas events but it’s not actually Christmas.

RidingWindhorses · 28/12/2017 22:49

You care enough to put decorations up and celebrate it.

You seem to have missed the point - no-one gives a fuck what you do for Christmas or when you do it, but when posters say it's really odd that people have trees up "when it's not longer Christmas" then someone is likely to point out that they're talking out of their arse.

tigercub50 · 28/12/2017 22:49

We always put ours up on my birthday in early Dec & will probably take it down just after New Year. Used to wait until 12th night but our house is smaller so it will be good to get the space back.

Dailystuck71 · 28/12/2017 22:50

Who says?

StarlightMcKenzee · 28/12/2017 22:54

They're not especially well behaved, but only one person is allowed to open a present at a time. And if one gets' say a scooter, then they don't just put it aside, they want to go outside and play on it - so they can.

Parker231 · 28/12/2017 22:55

Juliesaway - you seem very hung up on post Christmas celebrations, do you not enjoy the pre Christmas events? We had 20 for Christmas dinner and a few more in the evening, so I’m glad for a few days of doing nothing until I clear everything up for New Years Eve party and then back to work. For us Christmas is over on 25 December, we then focus on celebrating New Year.

GoingRogue · 28/12/2017 23:01

ScribblyGum ah lovely! I was soooooo close to getting a 7ft Norway Spruce...actually have buyers remorse and wish I had now Sad

Who gives a crap? It's Christmas to us Xmas Grin

PasstheStarmix · 28/12/2017 23:16

Parker231 I very much agree and love the lead up to Christmas; it's the best part!

juliesaway · 28/12/2017 23:20

The “lead up” is only the best part as you don’t know how / refuse to celebrate actual Christmas itself, other than by a turkey lunch and a few presents. Christmas is a whole 12 days after this. People are missing out on actually celebrating Christmas. I suppose there’s the shops to go to on the 26th so best take the tree down now that it’s over......tragic mentality.
