Taking the tree down!

Elsouth · 25/12/2017 19:28

Is it wrong to consider taking the tree down tomorrow? When is everyone else doing it?? I think last year I did it just after Boxing Day. As the kids get older the presents seem to get bigger and I end up having to rearrange the whole room. Need that tree gone. Does that make me a grinch?

cant be doing with this 12th night stuff, it comes down New Years Eve, always.

Overthehillsandfaraway8 · 27/12/2017 14:33

I did it today. Breathing a massive sigh of relief. The cards are in the recycling too.

andherplayfulsheep · 27/12/2017 14:33

6th January, but some people argue 12th night is the 5th. It's convenient for my family to have it as the 6th as it's my dad's birthday, so there's presents under the tree for a second time.

csigeek · 27/12/2017 15:07

I think we'll do ours tomorrow! DSD is going home tonight and DS is only 8mo and I want to rearrange the living room!

BroomstickOfLove · 27/12/2017 15:12

Twelfth Night for me. I'm not getting short-changed out of my full twelve days of Christmas.

PasstheStarmix · 27/12/2017 15:43

I'm doing ours as we speak. Need things back to normal as we're busy the rest of the week and 10 month old ds is into everything.

PasstheStarmix · 27/12/2017 15:44

They've been up since first weekend of December so at least I've got my efforts worth out of them too

rosy71 · 27/12/2017 15:44

Some point between New Year's Day & Twelfth Night. This year, we go back to school on the 2nd so probably then. We didn't put it up until 20th Dec.

If people put their trees up really early, I'm not surprised they're fed up with it sooner. It's very sad though. The time between Christmas and New Year is lovely and New Year is still part of the festivities imo.

PasstheStarmix · 27/12/2017 15:49

We class new year as a separate celebration and don't group it with Christmas. I love having nibbles and drinks in clean fresh house starting new year with last year's decs all packed away. I find it relaxing to know it's done and enjoy my new year better too.

RaeSkywalker · 27/12/2017 15:56

Ours has come down today.

labazs · 27/12/2017 16:07

we put it up as we wanted it to look nice if anyone called to see us my dil came with her four children three of which are autistic so they enjoyed it but this has been a miserable christmas rows upset tears home sitting and i self harmed after all the upset first time in five years now my partner has flu

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/12/2017 16:10

Tree is down the other decorations are still up, bit sad because we usually wait til NYD but , darn it got in the way Xmas Grin

Note to self: don't buy a 7 footer next year

catsaresomucheasier2 · 27/12/2017 16:27

Goes up beginning of Dec and comes down beginning of January. Each to their own. Before we had kids it went up last weekend before Xmas and down first weekend after it.

justoneday · 27/12/2017 16:50

9.30 Boxing Day morning. I couldn’t stand the clutter any longer. I told my 4 year ole that that was what you’re supposed to do on Boxing Day. Then I rearranged all the furniture in the house to make a play room downstairs to get all toys and toy storage out of the lounge. The garage was emptied and sorted today. It feels so good.

Thissideof40 · 27/12/2017 17:25

New Year’s Day for us.

Lostin3dspace · 27/12/2017 17:29

Took mine down today. It was looking wilted and sad, I figured it was for the best...

LucheroTena · 27/12/2017 18:03

People are following what retailers do instead of the actual festival. Just about sums it up really. Might as well start buying Easter eggs...

Ginkypig · 27/12/2017 18:05

Step kids arrived on the 22nd so we put it up together on the 23rd (I saved it until then purposely) they leave for home on the 29th so il either take it down then or leave it up until the 1st of Jan if I fancy it being up for new year.

PasstheStarmix · 27/12/2017 19:13

IheartNiles Great idea I may make some with all my unwanted Christmas chocolate melted down Wink

LadyLapsang · 27/12/2017 19:32

Epithany, but then we never put it up early. We got a really good one this year and it's hardly lost any needles at all.

biscuiteater · 27/12/2017 19:57

It's still Christmas so tree is up until the 12 days of Christmas are over. Didn't put the tree up very early though as it is a real one and want it to last out the holidays.

Batteriesallgone · 27/12/2017 20:00

As much as I agree that ‘retailers’ are lizards in suits trying to malevolently control us all, I also think that retailers do what people like. People like build up and anticipation. They like the beginning to be longer than the end. They like first ‘halves’ to be longer than second ‘halves’. Go watch any kind of performance and you’ll see evidence of it, and a non-religious celebration / festival is just another kind of performance. I’m talking as an atheist here (obviously) and my view of Christmas is a non-religious one.

It’s weird to have a festival where the presents and big meal / get together is at the beginning. It doesn’t go with how things are normally done. So now people aren’t particularly religious anymore, it makes sense that the celebration has shifted to the build up (or Advent).

Jb291 · 27/12/2017 20:37

Tree went upon 18th December and came down last night. I find the entire thing an ordeal and had to be persuaded to put the darned thing up at all.

Hepzibar · 27/12/2017 21:04

All decs and tree down today. My daughter and son in law and little grandson gone home this morning. Christmas is over, can't stand decs after Christmas celebrations are finished

PasstheStarmix · 27/12/2017 21:41

All my decs down and place polished, vacuumed and clean. Looking forward to waking up tomorrow, taking a big sigh and knowing it's all done. My 10 month old has more room to roll about now
