And she only lives a 5 minute walk away.
Invited her over for Xmas lunch as she' be on her own otherwise. She happily accepted. I said come over for 12.30, we'll have a drink and chat and food will be ready at 2pm.
She called at 1.30pm to say she was just getting dressed. I said ok, no problem. She said she'd be setting off before 2. Not worries I said.
It's now almost 3pm.
Food is sitting in the oven, starters have been out over half an hour .,,,
Aibu to say to my DP let's start without her ?!

I also think it sounds like she had company and is too embarrassed to give that as a reason. Very rude anyway!

ChasedByBees · 25/12/2017 15:09

That's is so rude. She was already late at 2pm so I would have started then. She knew when food was ready.

PavlovianLunge · 25/12/2017 15:10

Well, I wouldn’t be doing that again. I don’t mind people being 15 minutes late, but she’s been very disrespectful to you.

Crispbutty · 25/12/2017 15:13

I think it took two years for me and DP to be forgiven for not turning up to xmas day at his mums. 😳

We had a very messy xmas eve and woke up at 5pm xmas day to a LOT of messages from his mum, sister, brother...,

We were lucky that we got leftovers on Boxing Day when we got there 😂

Fishfingersandwichnocheese · 25/12/2017 15:14

I also would have eaten at 2 without her.

If you pander to this behaviour they will just do it again and again.

If it were my house she’d have arrived and food would have been eaten. If she was lucky there’d be some left so she could serve herself. Otherwise tough.

PieAndPumpkins · 25/12/2017 15:14

Well that's rude.

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 25/12/2017 15:15

Crisp - that’s so rude of you. Not sure why you are laughing at that.

Fishfingersandwichnocheese · 25/12/2017 15:18

I hope you are ashamed crisp there’s really no excuse for 2 grown adults to behave so disrespectfully.

Nousernameforme · 25/12/2017 15:20

If you had done that to me crisp I think I would still hold a grudge. Is v v rude

PositivelyPERF · 25/12/2017 15:21

Incredibly selfish behaviour Crisp, and so disrespectful. You'd never get another xmas invite from me.

Motoko · 25/12/2017 15:51

What on earth does "a messy Christmas eve" mean Crisp? Not turning up is hardly something to laugh about.

Beltane18 · 25/12/2017 16:01

I'm not completely humourless, Crisp saying "very messy" is clear to me and made me LOL. But I think the main thing is, you tell the host the truth as well as apologise profusely and probably provide gift vouchers or something as a big apology gift.

But "no reason" is a bit weird, unless she was just off her face and lost track of time.

MiltonTheChristmasCockroach · 25/12/2017 16:28

What on earth does "a messy Christmas eve" mean

To me that means a very late night filled with booze, fun and friends. Late to bed, late to rise because you forgot to turn on the alarm clock. Unfortunate, but not a hanging offence (yet) thank god and the little baby Jebus.

The guest who was invited by the OP, however, was up and about so far less of an excuse.

Crispbutty · 25/12/2017 16:39

Oh believe me we apologised profusely, bought some extra presents, and made sure we weren’t late the following year! Luckily I have a very lovely MIL who wasn’t very fazed by it.. Wink

ShirleyPhallus · 25/12/2017 16:49

Woke up at 5pm

What time did you go to bed for both of you to only wake up at 5?!

YouTheCat · 25/12/2017 16:51

I reckon there's a very good reason she was going to be on her own at Christmas. It'll be because she's a selfish twat.

She wouldn't ever be getting invited back.

Beltane18 · 25/12/2017 16:56

waking up at 5...hmm, guessing party continued till at least 10am
Grin

MrsPeacockDidIt · 25/12/2017 16:57

Last year my expensive meat was ruined because my friend said she was just popping next door to ge the roast potatoes she was in charge of and didn’t return for an hour. The roast was bone dry by the time she came back. She’d forgotten to put the oven on but didn’t bother letting me know. I was not happy. I hope you started on your meal while it was still warm and juicy.

holidayparkquestion · 25/12/2017 17:00

Wow crisp I'm not sure I'd forgive that with all the effort that goes into preparing xmas.
I guess with family you have to...

OP I'm really puzzles why she was late though.

TatterdemalionAspie · 25/12/2017 17:07

Why the fuck were you even asking?? She'd have had 15 mins grace and I'd have served the food - why would you keep everyone waiting for someone who couldn't be bothered to be on time? Confused

SandyDenny · 25/12/2017 17:15

Rude, rude and rude, she doesn't sounds like much of a friend

cocoboots · 25/12/2017 17:16

She doesn't drink ! So she wasn't drinking last night. I gave her a small glass of wine to have with dinner as she said she'd have a little one bit didn't touch it.
I've given her her Christmas pressie and card but she didn't bring anything. I don't mind but I feel a bit of a prat for putting up with this today !

Make it your New Years resolution to cut the useless, the users and CFs out of your life.

YouTheCat · 25/12/2017 17:19

So she's come empty handed?

Please, mind. She's a massive piss taker.

AfterSchoolWorry · 25/12/2017 17:25

Don't invite her again.
