Two men who had sex with 14-year-old girls avoid jail ‘because sex was consensual’ - The Independentapple.news/AGivyPy3QQGW-pAFDF8SlHQ

If the link doesn't work:

15 yr old girls on a sleepover, mucking about in bikinis, having a drink. 25 yr old men turn up with drugs and more booze. Turns into an 'orgy'.

Men get suspended sentence because skimpy clothing.

So girls who drink and wear skimpy clothes in private are fair game.

So the judge thinks grown men can justifiably rape 14 year old girls.

SleepFreeZone · 24/12/2017 09:47

At 14 I was equally as provocative around men but I promise you I didn't have a clue what I was doing I just liked the attention. I was nearly raped at least once in a similar scenario and that god I managed to get out the locked room. In another scenario very luckily for me the man was a gentleman and didn't force the issue (he had no idea I was 14, thought I was 18).

This is absolutely rape and I hope the case gets relooked at.

Pumperthepumper · 24/12/2017 09:50

I actually can’t believe there are people on here who think that 14 year old girls ‘know what they’re doing’ ie totally fine for 25 year old men to groom them.

Thinkingofausername1 · 24/12/2017 09:54

It makes me wonder what is happening to our court systems. People get away with anything these days. And you can't even defend yourself if someone breaks in, you are the one that gets charged! I am wondering what the world is coming too.....

worridmum · 24/12/2017 09:54

The problem is most child rape (or sexual assault in case of females doing it) is tje perpetrators get off lightly.

In the case of my brother who at the age of 10 was sexually assaulted (not allowed to call it rape) by his female teacher all she got was a suspended sentence because apparently its not bad if a young boy has forced sexy as apparently its infinitely worse if a bloke does it or if the victim was female and judge said as much in hos closing statements saying while she was silly the female judge said it was not worthy of her sending her to jail as it would have a adverse effect on her toddlers.

And even indicated if it was not mandatory she might not even forced her to be on the sex offenders list.

He was 9 when the grooming started...

christmasrage · 24/12/2017 09:55

I think it's a rape culture because girls are expected to have sex, 'put out', without much context or understanding. All you have to do is be there to be considered available.

My first time was up against a wall with a bloke, much older, who I hadn't minded flirting a bit and maybe having a snog, but I definitely wasn't up for sex. It went from a quick kiss to a shag in less than a minute, despite me saying no repeatedly.

I don't think you'd treat someone you knew like that- your mate's daughter or little sister.

I think the scenario described in that case was incredibly risky for all of them. 14yr olds wouldn't have understood it. 25yr olds should have known better.

The sister's friend was 22.

Most? Are you sure of that? Sounds very untrue considering women actually tend to recieve harsher sentences than a man would (for a crime that is equal) .

RemainOptimistic · 24/12/2017 09:58

That judge needs education.

Thedietstartsnow · 24/12/2017 09:58

Oh the poor men...turning up at someone's house, finding two girls in swimsuits and trying so hard to restrain themselves and sadly failing ,they must feel so awful..this judge needs sacking....or do we need women only swimming pools now? Because any man raping a woman in a swimsuit, bless him, well,he couldn't help himself.what a twat the judge is

SpartonDregs · 24/12/2017 10:00

The OP is not talking about rape, they're talking about the existence of a "rape culture" which is different. HTH

You are advocating raping girls. An agenda of stopping girls being raped should be the position of every culture.

pisacake · 24/12/2017 10:04

The judge has a history of this

www.theguardian.com/uk/2013/jun/04/graham-ovenden-suspended-sentence-sexual-offences

Splinterz · 24/12/2017 10:04

25yr old men shouldn't be having sex 14yr olds, despite the bikinis and the alcohol.

No they shouldn't but equally you shouldn't be using these girls to push your own agenda.

We don't live in a 'rape culture' at all. If we did, old Marge in the post office would be quite literally rogered over the first class stamps by Derek the Postie every time he delivered. We wouldn't be safe to go out and we are. I'm afraid OP I find these sorts of threads borderline akin to hysteria

AskBasil · 24/12/2017 10:06

I wonder about this judge

When a man tells you who he is, believe him

AskBasil · 24/12/2017 10:09

You don't understand the concept of rape culture Splinterz

Pumperthepumper · 24/12/2017 10:10

Splinterz you must be on the wind up, surely? Marge in the post office is extremely likely to have been on the receiving end of unwanted sexualised behaviour by the very fact of her being a woman.

We (women) aren’t safe to go out and about - do you know how many women in the UK are raped every hour? Do you know how many were killed last year by men? There’s a thread running just now about sexual harassment in clubs, have a read of that.

I’ll just wait here for you to say ‘the UK isn’t as bad as other countries’ since that’s the only arguement that people who deny rape culture use.

AskBasil · 24/12/2017 10:10

Actually sometimes we aren't safe to go out.

We just don't know when it's safe and when it isn't.

Pumperthepumper · 24/12/2017 10:12

No they shouldn't but equally you shouldn't be using these girls to push your own agenda.

So, ok to use 14 year olds for sex because they know what they’re doing but definitely not ok to say this is an example of rape culture. Right.

christmasrage · 24/12/2017 10:13

To be fair, in that linked case the judge had to sentence according to the law at that time.

How on earth are you defining rape culture, splinters? I don't define rape culture as all women raped all the time. A drinking culture doesn't mean everyone is drunk all the time. A benefits culture doesn't mean everyone is on benefits.

Many people are experiencing unwanted sexual behaviour, and the system doesn't adequately protect them.

OP posts:
AskBasil · 24/12/2017 10:13

Yeah, men are OK using girls and women for their agenda

Pumperthepumper · 24/12/2017 10:13

And the use of ‘hysteria’, as always.

Always hysterical, these women who don’t want 14 year old girls to be raped by 25 year olds.

christmasrage · 24/12/2017 10:14

"borderline akin to hysteria" ah yes, splinters, that Well known ailment we poor women suffer from when men know there is nothing really wrong with us.

I think we do have a cultural issuse with our responsibilities to others v selfish desires in general (all be it a million times better than pretty much everywhere else I have been in the world). On a broader scope there are many cases that may be concensual but one party is putting their own selfish need over what (they probably know) is best for the other or at least not giving to much care about the op. Think we need better education and respect for each other in general. I wouldnt say rape culture but still one lacking in care and respect.

McTufty · 24/12/2017 10:21

Based on the facts reported in that article, this is disgusting. Giving children drugs is bad enough, but to go on to have sex with them given their age and apparent state of inebriation is just dreadful. I’m no expert on criminal sentencing but this punishment does not seem to fit the crime.
