Used our money to send that tw*t to Hong Kong?!

So I'm watching CBeebies this morning with the kids (don't judge - I have a headache and need quiet for half an hour!) and that annoying tw*t Mister Maker is on.

He's in Hong Kong - the actual Hong Kong.
AIBU to be slightly irked that the Beeb spent our licence fee on sending this guy all the way to Hong Kong simply to stick letters onto a piece of paper in a pagoda?!

Ah that dude has been all over the world - jammy bugger who must be humping someone high up or at least related to them.

I can't get too het up though. The BBC makes loads of stuff in partnership with other production companies from other countries and I bet if you were inclined to look into it mister maker probably is.

ItsBeginingToLookAlotLikeChris · 22/12/2017 08:58

I agree what a pointless waste of money but I thought the sane thing, what I great jolly for him! Angry totally pointless and unnecessary

Thishatisnotmine · 22/12/2017 09:00

Mr Maker makes me angry. Who came up with that idea!?

BouleBaker · 22/12/2017 09:01

Mister Maker is a huge money spinner for the BBC al over the world. He’s making money for them rather than using up the licence fee.

MissWimpyDimple · 22/12/2017 09:02

Apparently he's a bit of an arse in real life too. Got narky with friends kids for wanting to address him as "mr maker" and not by his real life serious actooor name Hmm

metalmum15 · 22/12/2017 09:14

He's one of the reasons I'm glad my dc are too old for cbeebies. Never could stand the smug faced git.

MissMudskipper · 22/12/2017 09:19

MissWimpyDimple that doesn't surprise me in the slightest. I can well imagine!

Isn't it a bit more likely, given the info here on being sold everywhere, that he was doing some promotion etc, so they filmed a few episodes at the same time?

A bit like Kelsey Grammar (sp?) doing Royal Variety & Desert Island Discs whilst (I presume) being in UK for something else?

MrRayaUmasTurban · 22/12/2017 09:20

Give me Mr Bloom any day.

LurkingQuietly · 22/12/2017 09:22

What's worse is the stuff he makes is SO shit! I've never seen him make anything half decent.

MrRayaUmasTurban · 22/12/2017 09:24

Maybe he sells it on FB, Lurking ;)

Be3Al2SiO36 · 22/12/2017 09:28

There are those that know. And there are those that do not. Like all threads.

JenniferL90 · 22/12/2017 09:30

I always assumed that the show is popular in the countries he's visiting and was sort of a joint venture with CBeebies and the kids TV in HK/Brazil/SA etc etc.

Really jammy though! Lucky him.

He does have to wear that fucking hideous waistcoat though, so the joke's on him really.........

FizzyGreenWater · 22/12/2017 09:31

Oriental bow in the direction of Be3Al2SiO36

Those that know, they ask not.

BarbarianMum · 22/12/2017 09:31

Maybe including foreigners and foreign locations in their programmes makes it easier to sell them to foreigners in foreign locations? Shocking though that idea obviously is.

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 22/12/2017 09:33

Cbeebies went through a whole stage of taking their shows 'out and about' - did it coincide with the move to Salford perhaps?

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/12/2017 09:35

I am going to disengage with the BBC anyway over the whole religious programming announcement. It's a shame as they make some great stuff but I can't be doing with the way they are being run nowadays.

Tipsntoes · 22/12/2017 09:38

Isn't it like when Top Gear were sent all over the world by the BBC, they actually bring in more than they cost? It goes out all over the world and is dubbed into several languages.

That doesn't make any sense to me either BTW, it's a very simple format, I don't know why other countries need to buy the show and dub this annoying man rather than making it themselves, but I don't think "we" are paying for his trips.

Kazzyhoward · 22/12/2017 09:39

I always wondered how much Eric Sykes was paid to do nothing more than say "teletubbies" in a strange voice, in the introduction. Yes, I know BBC sold the program and probably made lots of money, but would they have made any less if they'd used someone else to say a single word???

Kazzyhoward · 22/12/2017 09:41

And don;t get me started about that awful woman who couldn't sing, doing a singing program. She was so bad, everything she sung had to be backed up with backing singers. At least the bloke she was partnered with could sing. Yes, she was famous (heaven knows why), but would BBC have made any less money if they'd used someone slightly less famous who could actually sing?

JingsMahBucket · 22/12/2017 09:42

The outrage on this thread all sounds a bit Little England.

QueenThisTime · 22/12/2017 09:44

He's in Hong Kong - the actual Hong Kong.

:o at the outrage. It's not as if he's the only person at the BBC to get a ridiculous freebie jolly abroad. Aww, I like Mister Maker. (though admittedly does not go well with a headache. "ONLY JUST!!!")

MissMudskipper · 22/12/2017 09:45

To be fair there is a large ex pat community in Hong Kong so BarbarianMum you have a point. Mister Maker clearly onto a good one if he can jet all around the world. Maybe I should send in some of my crappy creations and who know where it might land me Grin

Finola1step · 22/12/2017 09:46

My BIL knows him. Says he's a decent bloke. So there.

MissMudskipper · 22/12/2017 09:47

Don't worry JingsMahBucket it's all faux outrage. Now if you want real outrage let's talk about Postman Pat who always sticks his nose into everyone else's business rather than getting on with his own job 😜
